    I really love your drum insights. I didn't understand the complexity of Jinjer's songs until you pointed out what to listen for.

    The "Pit of Consciousness" live in Kiev recording is excellent, better choose that one. And there will be no need to blur it. The mv is pretty too.

    I *love* it when they go fully thru-composed like this. Definitely one of my favourite songs from them.

    Hopefully you've watched Eugene's bass playthrough vid by now to understand how his efforts make a single-guitarist band sound this HUGE! ;)
    Both Eugene & Roman use Helix set-ups for live shows, primarily for switching between clean & *chonky* modes LOL I'm sure someone in the Jinjer fanbase will comment more detail re which amps they run the Helix' into these days.

      @ericpeterson7512 6 месяцев назад +5

      Love Eugene's playthrough videos! Yes, Line 6 Helix for both Roman and Eugene. If you don't know, Teck, it's amp/speaker/effects modeling, as introduced with their iconic POD products. It's all inside one effects pedal. You can tinker with every aspect of your sound in minute detail, adding any effects you want and layering things just how you want it. There's a gear video where you can see Eugene demonstrating his. The last I heard, Eugene was using custom Coffee speaker cabinets and MarkBass amps. I use the same MarkBass amp, it's killer. I think he uses a different amp in Europe than in North America, not sure why. Maybe it's a voltage thing.
      Roman changes it up quite a bit with amps and cabinets, I think. I can't remember what he's been using lately. He's endorsing Jackson guitars now.

    Yay happy to watch this after all 😄
    Funny you're commenting on how good it sounds (including the mix), my first thought was "ahhh this sounds much worse than the official video" 😂Still pretty good though, all the band members are on point, but the sound is relatively tinny and echoey. Check out the official video for your own enjoyment if you haven't yet 🙂 (the visuals are also very cool)
    If you want to know more about false chords, growls, screams and stuff, various youtubers such as Chris Liepe or Kardavox Academy have videos explaining things and teaching people how to do it (safely).
    And yeah that low growl towards the end is absolutely nasty 😁
    Btw, I understand the song is about depression, like falling into a vortex that swallows everything from the inside.
    I still recommend "Home Back" from Jinjer, or Lingus by Snarky Puppy if you want to check out something different (and amazing).

    • @aditsu
      @aditsu 6 месяцев назад +3

      The song structure is also quite interesting - the vortex just evolves and grows without repeating earlier parts (no identifiable chorus), until it eats everything.

  • @christerfurberg6538
    @christerfurberg6538 6 месяцев назад +7

    Good that you released this, even if it's blurred. We can always watch the original separately.
    They do use tracks to fill out the sound live. It's done very subtly here, though.
    For very cool extreme vocal techniques, check out Will Ramos of Lorna Shore. Their song To the Hellfire is a good start. The drummer's footwork is also quite impressive. The Charismatic Voice arranged to put a camera down Will's throat to see how he makes all those sounds, very interesting (and a little gross)

    • @hemlock399
      @hemlock399 6 месяцев назад +1

      Not sure there's any track played here aside from a click in their in-ears...can you elaborate on what you think might be tracked?

    • @christerfurberg6538
      @christerfurberg6538 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@hemlock399 I thought I heard some vocal layering, but I could be mistaken. Could be that the delay is playing a trick to my ears. :)
      On some other live clips, like the Wacken 2019, it's quite clear though

    • @hemlock399
      @hemlock399 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@christerfurberg6538 Oh, historically, they have definitely used lots of backing tracks behind clean vocals along with some added guitars & sound effects here & there, and there are backing vocals in the Perennial Live at Wacken video, I just didn't pick out any backing tracks in this video. You might be right that it was the effect of delay plus quite a bit of echo. Not the best audio quality.

    False chords are the bits of vocal chords under your true chords, the ones you use to speak and sing normally. When you scream with false chords, you get that real low, guttural sound that usually has no tonality. But it is also extremely healthy because you are not damaging your sensitive true chords. The false chords are much looser and more resilient. Screaming with false and singing with true is what lets you switch between them immediately without destroying your singing voice.

      False chords are above the actual vocal chords, though? As in closer to the mouth. That's why you see the actual vocal chords when looking what the false chords do.

    The false chords extend over your actual vocal chords normally to help keep food from going down the wrong way. Singers who learn the technique learn to control those otherwise involuntary muscles to make sound. There's no pitch. It's pretty much broadband noise. They then use their throat, nasal cavity and mouth and tongue to shape the sound to get more low frequencies or more high frequencies. Not done correctly it can damage your voice because you can think you are using your false chords when actually you are trying to use your real vocal chords. She somehow managed to learn the right way to do it despite not having a vocal coach of any sort to help her. She's been doing it for 15 years now.

    • @JariJuslin
      @JariJuslin 6 месяцев назад +2

      Basically creating sound with tissues above true vocal chords is what it is about. What tissues in the throat can be made to vibrate and how is still being studied.
      The healthiness here is that you can leave true vocal chords relaxed when growling, meaning they can't get damaged either.
      There are ways to create distortion with true vocal folds, but they carry risks unless you really know what to do, especially in fast switches like we see in Jinjer all the time.

    Blurred video is better than no video. First single from the most recent album, 2021's Wallflowers. One of my favorite Jinjer songs. Love how low she gets near the end. It wasn't the opener, song #5 of 12. Perennial was the opener here.
    Yes, the growls are using false chords, the false vocal folds, they are the skin flaps that close off the windpipe when you eat or drink.
    Later, on your own, check out the music video for this song.
    She gets pretty low in "Home Back" too, check out the music video. When you get to "Pit of Consciousness" , go with the live in Kiev version.

    Ok I think I've neglected this video because of the heavy reverb and echo, thinking to myself "the audio ain't great," but that firecracker snare sound!!! OMG that's sick with that heavy ambience. And there's something about the way her voice sounds here, without the backing tracks. And that scream on "SOUL" good Lord!! And the depth of that "SWURL" is unmatched.
    Great reaction man, you're becoming one of my favorite reactors because you've clearly fallen for Jinjer like me. It's a big fat group sound here for sure. I'm liking it more now than I did before. You can really hear the drums well, less so the bass. Eugene kinda blends into the overall sound, which ain't a bad thing.

    Loved watching your Jinjer reactions, sincere reaction on Pisces! 👌🏻
    A few tips on great music you could react to:
    Opeth - Ghost of Perdition, live at Red Rock. Everything Opeth creates is super, but this is a great recording.
    Unleash The Archers - Awakening. Simply a divine song in all aspects. Plus the drummer wears socks. 😉
    And this last tip, for you as a drummer is Wintersun - Sons of winter and Stars, the live rehearsals. Kai Hato is an epic drummer. You'll see when you watch the clip. Fun fact, he also used to play with Nightwish. 😊👍🏻
    And you should do a festival in Europe, they are sick. We have several over summer in Belgium, doing three of them personally this summer. And the weather depends, one day it could be raining all day, the next we could have tropical temps... 🙈
