. Very good! . Simple, practical idea that solves the problem because nuts, washers and screws are easy to find. . For hobbyists, it is not worth buying a tool for each application that takes up space, costs money and, if it is not for professional use, it usually sits around collecting dust.

Nice job. I really like that you used your thumb and wrench to keep the head of the bolt stationary and turned the second nut. Others hold the second nut and turn the head of the bolt, which makes the rivnut rotate. No good... Thanks.
Great video. I have a spot that I won't be able to use a Rivnut tool. Plus you can buy individual Rivnuts at most local hardware stores. This is a great idea if you only need a couple. I always hate buying a tool, I only use once.
Idk what im doing wrong, having hard time getting these to work I fitted some out of luck Built a rooftop tent but cant seem to figure a rivnut without tool Im using m6 rivnuts and the bolt seems to break or nuts loose their teeth Good videos anyway again, for reference I will get it done one of these days
Nice. I have two small tools that work very well for two sizes, but this video show how many different size nutserts can be installed without a special tool.
Great Idea. Have you tried the small blind nuts? I have broke 2 of the small studs that come with the tool but the 1/4" Has worked great. I would suggest a drop of oil between the nut & washer.
Nice im going to install a skid plate under my jeep and need to install 4 rivet nuts and didnt want to buy a expensive tool to install it when im only going to use it one time thanks for the video

Як варіант для разового невідповідального з'єднання. Та як на мене краще уже заклепки.
I purchased the tool kit and then did not have the physical space to fit the crimping tool. Searched for a solution and found this simple and effective alternative.
1. Why exactly do you need a rivnut if you are going to bind them together permanently? 2. The pilot hole diameter should be the plain one and not the knurled one. The slightly increased diameter of the knurling is to provide for a tight fit of the rivnut in the drilled hole.
1 (Longer!) bolt. 1 Threaded Bar Connection Nut. 1 Washer.. . The long Connection Nut spreads the load and stops the bolt thread stripping or the bolt snapping when used for multiple larger Rivnuts. . Long nut on the bolt, washer, Rivnut. . Tack the nut up to the Rivnut. Hold the bolt still. Turn the nut. Count the turns on a test piece to determine the correct rotation (A marker line on the nut is useful for this) . A high tensile bolt is best.
I'm surprised you didn't make the hole a little undersized, so the splines on the rivnut grab the sheet metal more strongly as it flares out. The biggest problem with these things is the way corrosion of the bolt in the hole makes it harder to remove the bolt years later. If the rivnut spins as you try to rotate the bolt out, it's frustratingly difficult to get the bolt out, especially if you can't easily get at the other end. These are designed for poor access to one side, otherwise you'd simply use a nut on the other end.
@@arnmar8850 We're going to agree to disagree on that point. The vertical splines are there to prevent the rivnut from easily spinning, which is the most common problem with these things. As the rivnut crushes, those splines bite into the sidewall of the sheet metal, helping to fix it in place so the bolt can be broken free. Vertical splines make it harder to crush, not easier.
@@spelunkerd The nuts are made of aluminum. There is no strength to keep them from spinning. If you watch the video again you will see the area where the nut compresses are where the splines are located.
Worse, the rivnut will spin and if it's in a blind spot you won't get the bolt out. I used rivnuts on my RV's tilting solar panels so I didn't need 3 hands to secure them while trying not to slip off the roof
I agree100% glad someone else noticed that and spoke up. B I've been a machinist for 40 years and the principle is awesome but please drill a tight hole, not so sloppy please.
What’s the maximum thickness a M8 Rivet Nut can be put into? I have a 6.5mm alloy motorcycle rack that I’d like to put 4 M8 Rivet nuts into, I was thinking of using stainless steel rivet nuts? Would stainless steel rivet nuts be ok, or would it corrode the alloy?
May i know how much the body length of rivnut gets reduced after riveting ?? because the body length mentioned by various supplier on catalog is the original one and not the final one after riveting process
Can you get 4, 1/2" rivet nuts to hold 9000 pound rated trailer hitch (straight line pull) in a Ram truck frame? I was looking at a front hitch where install instructions want you to drill a large side hole 1.25 inches to put the hitch bolt and bolt support block inside the frame. Thought a rivet nut would be a nice idea, but I bet that exceeds the rivet nuts strength.
Also, you might want to use a hardened bolt. I just did a test with a 3/8 stainless steel rivnut using a plain steel bolt, and the bolt bent when the rivnut didn't squish evenly at first.
Buena idea, pero el agujero tiene que ser de la medida exacta del remache roscado para que cuando se ensanche apreté la superficie, si es ma grande pierde parte de su efectividad.
Doesn't work for me. the rivnut spins in the hole when the bolt is torqued so the bolt ends up being driven further through the rivnut. I can't drill a hole tight enough in sheet metal for the rivnut to not spin. If the hole is large enough for the rivnut to go through, it will just spin and the bolt won't cause it to swell. What am I doing wrong?
Great video. Straight to the point. Showed us exactly what we needed to see. Nothing more or else.

Cierto. Todos tendríamos que tener un enorme almacén para tener la herramienta adecuada para cada aplicación. Y aún así, cada año salen nuevas...
this is the correct way. Too many people turn the bolt, stressing the rivnut threads

Use Anti Seize on the threads, these rivnuts are notorious for corroding the threads and then just spinning when trying to disassemble
Good & concise. 👍🏾
And those who criticize this effort, shut up and make your own video. 😏

Thanks for share with us.
Really great and simple technique i have seen in this kind of entire videos.. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, thank for share and teach us.
I use a swan neck spanner to hold the head of the bolt and a flat bearing between the two washers, they go in like butter

Perfect 🙌🙌🙌
For best results, pilot hole needs to be the exact diameter of the rivbolt, theses holes are too wide. Good vid though.
Bought poly nuts from napa. Work great and did not hinder assembly of tail gate on 36 dodge by being too tall

2. The pilot hole diameter should be the plain one and not the knurled one. The slightly increased diameter of the knurling is to provide for a tight fit of the rivnut in the drilled hole.
It was an example of the clamping force. Rivnuts are squeezed, the knurling is not part of the holding force

The splined area is to facilitate the nutsert to crush. If you are concerned about removing the bolt years later, use anti seize compound.

I built a couple of different designs but this one is very clever and gets the job done..nice
Great demonstration!!
Great work!
Are these steel or aluminium inserts ? Thanks
aluminum. you see on one of the rivnuts that theres markings from the tool. Steel is much much stronger
are rivnuts OK to use on 1-2mm thick plastic sheets?
Brilliant video, really helped me out👍
Thank you very nice.
Thank u so much
But the rivet-nut will turn and wont tighten. How do you manage?
Obviously, does not have a solution. Skip this site and move on
Lock-tite, both on manufactured flange of rivet-nut & also the manual flange that's created as you compress or tighten it

It depends on how thick the material is. Compressed length will be longer in thicker sheet, shorter in thinner material

You need a hard steel bolts and nuts. Or else you will damage the thread

Can you use Rivnut on plastic
Yes, my friend... You can use them anywhere the fabric would withstand the bloating of the aluminum rivnut.
дякую. круто!
How do you know when to stop turning?
Can rivnut be used to replace a broken welded nut inside a frame that a motor mount bolts to?
No, these are not suited for that much torque as required to tighten a motor mount.
Torsional twist with break it up ...low torque yield...not a good idea
