- A lap late afternoon on day #2 of Destination Nurburgring 9.
I`m driving Matt`s 328i, Alex ahead is in his M3. He lifts on the long straights to make the laps closer.
I have a passenger, he`s solo.
After this session I told him his brake lights had stopped working. It`s disconcerting following someone without brake lights !
3 of the most enjoyable laps I`ve done at the ring for a long time. This is the final lap, we still had traffic in a few key places, but I still didn`t expect to do an 8:13 !
I`m indicating at the start of the lap as I was going to go ahead and he would follow me, but we decided it would be better if I followed him instead.
I`ve done approx 1,300 laps over the last 8 years, but they have all been in my FWD Golf MK2. This was my first time on the ring in a RWD car, it wasn`t mine so I do lift in a few places that I`d have pressed on a bit more if it was my car. A few of my lines are still FWD and I understeer a bit because of it.
The car is a 1998 E36, 328i Coupe.
It is fully stripped with a Custom Cages roll cage.
HSD MonoPro with Nur spec springs (10kg/mm).
E46 330i carriers, calipers and disks with Carbon Lorraine RC6 pads.
Custom built E36 M3 LSD & E30 3.73 CWP.
E46 3 series steering rack.
M50 manifold with generic M50 ECU Flash & Stock engine.
Home built Front Splitter
Rear GT wing.
4:45 the slipstream is real
+Chiliplease Closing speed is too quick to be simply due to slipstreaming...M3 driver is lifting like he said in the description.
That's a very well sorted 328i . Well driven Sire, some nice lines there
that 328i is faster basically everywhere except the middle to long end of the straights.
quicker entry, mid corner and exit speeds by a wide margin.

the accaleration is insane with that 3.73 diff
The m3 pulls way higher but this M52 must have a m50 manifold on it because up top it's singing!

But yeah, it does have that manifold!
Great sportsmanship at end! Camera car was dominating corners and braking. Would like to see these cars in person...

Great laps Nigel. Can you remember what rpm you were pulling through the fast sections?? I'm currently rebuilding my 328 diff and trying to decide on ratios as it will be built primarily for the ring. Thanks in advance and see you at DN events 2017!
Tim Morley we just hit 7,000 approaching schwedenkreuz. Only momentarily though. Otherwise it was fine.

Just goes to show. Is it really worth paying 5-10k extra for an m3 if in the real world they'll be just as fast and hardly much difference on the track too.

Considering you made 1300 laps on the Ring in a FWD, didn't you ever get curios about how a RWD car feels until now? :) Aren't you a bit sorry now?
Why would I be Sorry ? Just because it`s FWD doesn`t mean you can`t enjoy driving.
As you can see from the video, I`m comfortable driving RWD or FWD. It isn`t a big deal either way.

I was joking :) Of course you can't be sorry for lapping the Nurburgring so many times, no matter what the car you are into. Any car can be fun when driven in a spirited manner. Heck, even my father's 3 cyl 1 liter Corsa is fun when you go at it. In its limits, of course :)

Wild Honey properly set up e36 cars are quite good. one set up for a track will give an m3 a good run or beat it if the m3 is running stock /oem suspension specs.
Standard 328’s are 190 stock!
