Thank you for all your wonderful lessons.
They are all professional and helpful.
    This is my understanding :
    a) " uống được bia " = Ability (technical) to perform the action; in this case - technical ability to drink
    b) " được uống bia " = Allowed to perform the action comfortably without restriction.
In the conversation between Lan and the young man. The young man says :
"Nhưng mà em đang uống thuốc, thi em có uống được
    bia không "
The young man has already been informed by Lan, that she is capable of drinking (a lot). However presently due to medication from the doctor, she is not allowed to drink beer.
Thus should it be more appropriate for him to ask :
"Nhưng mà em đang uống thuốc, thi em có được uống
    bia không "

Aahhh Kana what you said is exactly correct!!!! The young guy was supposed to say "Nhưng mà em đang uống thuốc, thì em có được uống
bia không?", but in that take he must have mixed them up. We only just noticed the mistake now!!!
Sorry for the confusion and thank you for your great observation!!

lol I just realized we can even combine "có thể" with "được" and it's for emphasis, no difference in meaning ==> tôi "có thể" hiểu "được" cách dùng từ "được" rồi

Phụ đề đẹp, PIP đẹp, mình ngưỡng mộ. Video cực kì tốt. TVO xứng đáng nhiều 'người patron'. Thực ra mình không thích uống nhiều bia; chỉ ba chai là đủ để phê được.

The one I use most infrequently is the verb + được. Is this one used often? Growing up speaking vietnamese, I mostly used the [phrase] + được không, which sounds like "can you please" to me.

I'd like to say "glad I could help"
Why is it "rất vui được cứu" and not được in the end (according to a native speaker)? This way it would either mean "allowed to help" or be passive voice (be helped) when actually I did the thing?

  • @briankelly4927

It may be magical, but it is also mysterious. Like 'well' in English, it seems to pop up in very odd places. I just saw the sentence: Con lau em moi mua duoc nha (it will be a long time before I can buy a house), so that shows the link with 'co the' Lan points out here (I have no problem knowing how to use 'co the', I think) but it still surprised me to see it there. But I think the day I can correctly and appropriately deploy 'duoc' into my speech is the day I know I am getting somewhere with this infuriating and incredible language.

Hello my question , how to get a dot under the alphabet ơ?

    • @belonggame
      @belonggame Год назад

It depends on what kind of Vietnamese input you use.
There are VNI and Telex. VNI uses numbers and Telex uses sequence of letters.
I personally prefer Telex. For ợ in Telex it's the sequence of "owj" and in VNI you would type "o57"
I am still learning how to write Vietnamese myself

    • @Tiengvietoi

Literally "được" means "okay, can, be allowed".

So then the meaning varies between:
      1. Being permitted
      2. Being able
      3. Being affirmative (confirming yes)
And the 4th: meaning yes, or it's ok, or "sure" in English?
