I liked it, but it would be too overpowered with the post-COVID race layout. They should replace it with the One Way if they bring the mechanic back (forcing a team to do a specific Detour option).
Before episode 1 ends, the teams would have to preplan who they would U-turn should they have the opportunity in the future. One shot in the dark U-turn.
I feel they need to add a "split" type challenge, where its essentially a detour, where one member does one task and the other person does the other, and they can't switch tasks
I have an idea for something called an "one way" it's essentially the U turn for road blocks, where an other team decides what player from another team does the road block.
I think this was a really great addition to the show. It adds strategy in wether or not to use it, being able to abuse how other teams perceive you, targeted attacks can just generate drama like nothing else... leads to great tv honestly. It isn't always successful, which is good cause otherwise we'd need it gone, but it can lead to making or breaking teams in the eyes of the viewer, depending on what kind of team you want to cheer for. On an unrelated note, I think my country is cursed in this show. It's appeared in 3 seasons, and between them something has always gone majorly wrong in it's episode or the season as a whole. Season 3 with 4 teams failing to put the right gas in their cars leading to lots of delays, season 23 where a team outright lost just because their flight got so delayed they went from first to last and of course, season 33 is self explained. Points to who guesses the country without looking it up.
shoutout to Canadian amazing race that has a dumbed down version of U-turn: the one-way. Which just means one team is forced to do one of the two detours chosen by the team using the one-way, and cant switch detour. Can still be devastating if that detour is something that team is REALLY bad at, like forcing a grandpa to do a dancing challenge
I always thought that a "ouserlf u-turn" could be an option that, if you survive, you win some kind of adventage (a fast forward, an skip-a-task, or a u-turn nullifyer, for example). Among all the versions, the blind U-turn is the best of them, and shoul be used more. 3 doubles along the race, and the second one blinded could be a great thing :D Aside from that, I liked the "intersection", It's a shame that it will not come back... And also liked the face-2-face elimination format. Wanna see more of that.
Actually, in Season 12, Shana & Jennifer weren't going for the "death blow" on Lorena & Jason as a strategic move; they saw TK & Rachel running up behind them and MISTOOK them for Lorena & Jason!
Personally I'd love a Speed Bump U-Turn - force a second team that didn't get last in the previous leg to complete the Speed Bump. First of all, this gives the team that came last a better chance to survive (I always find it disappointing when they get out right after), second of all, I feel like this would cause more drama, third of all, it'd allow it to be done on challenges other than Detours, which would be nice.
@@francesca-selfproclaimed-bleep It wouldn't reward them; they'd still have to complete the speed bump just the same. It'd be like having a single U-Turn in the same leg as a Speed Bump, only the U-Turn and Speed Bump just happen to be the same task.
Thanks for the video, an interesting one, but a couple of comments: TAR 18: In Leg 5 Jaime & Cara indeed finished behind the Globetrotters, but they actually were last and eliminated. TAR 20: Although I agree that Nary & Jamie were not the strongest team, it's worth mentioning that they also had to complete Speed Bump, they started 2 hours behind the second to last team and there was no equalizer, so they didn't really suck (at least not in that leg). They needed a miracle which didn't happen (also both detour tasks weren't that bad).
In S16, Joe & Heidi got U-turned, struggling on the other side of the detour, and had been eliminated as Phil came to their location. The automatic U-turn, only showed in S18, forced a team who completed the starting line task last to do both detours at the first one. The saddest part was Abbie & Ryan in S21, because their chance to double their champion money had been destroyed. Also, the U-turn vote had been featured in S31. So far, Leo & Jamal had survived 3 U-turns as the best record in this show.
Personally I am not a fan of how they did the U-Turn vote in S31 because you are casting your votes right in front of everyone. If I was a producer approaching this method, I would suggest doing a silent vote and then revealing the votes after all of the teams have done voting. That way teams will not be able to cast their votes with any knowledge of how any teams who voted before them have voted.
They should add a gambling element to it, tempting players to voluntarily u-turn. You can complete both detours for a prize or an advantage, but only if you openly u-turn another team. You don’t have to go for the prize if you don’t want to, but players will suspect you have an advantage in the race if you finish the leg. If the team you u-turn is eliminated, you’ll have a target on your back anyway, so you might as well go for it, right? What if it’s a travel or cash prize like you get in first place? What if it’s a fast forward or some other big advantage? Strong players might blow their game going for it. Bad players might cut their losses and hope for elimination with one prize claimed. Chaos.
Mate I’m not sure if u watch Australian survivor, but you need to see the latest tribal on hero’s vs. villains, out of all tribals I’ve seen I’ve never seen one this crazy. From the tension between to apposing forces, to the twist. Best tribal ever imo
As far as I know the first voting U-turn appeared on the amazing race Israel season 2 but was done much better, because the teams voted unanimously (It was revealed after the detour who voted for you) I hope they do it like this in the US version
What I also loved about this is how they handled the Double U-Turn. When it was introduced, the team with the most votes got U-turned, and whoever that team voted for received the second!
TAR 34 (last season) was anything but a cutthroat game. OTT positivity, chartered flights, no route info tasks, staggered start times with max delay of just 45 minutes, etc...
On par with Survivor 43 in terms of how OTTP fake the show has became, what happened to all the drama in the early 2010s era shows like Masterchef Season 4
It's because of COVID regulations. The teams couldn't interact with the public, and everyone at task sites was tested. That's why there were fewer challenges.
There is one leg in the fifth season of the amazing race asia (leg 9). There are only four teams left, and in that leg, there is a yield and a single U-Turn. All of them used to one team (a strong one, they already won 5 legs). So after they completed their first detour, they want to do the next one. Only to be stopped by the locals because only two teams can do that detour. So, that's guarantee their elimination. Also I think the Australian version did the U-Turn vote, also in their penultimate leg. One team received the U-Turn as they already won 8 legs, and they get eliminated. if you ask if any team has won a leg after being u-turned, there is one. It was in the fifth season of the amazing race canada. The one who u-turn them finished second in that leg 😅
Fun fact to all the Non global TAR Viewers. In TARAu2, there was a team named Paul and Steve who were the first team in that version to be U-Turned and win that same leg, having been done so in a not so Blind U-Turn because the team that blind U-Turned them did right in front of them. Paul and Steve were huge targets too because they were the only team to be U-Turned all season, with the first time being a U-Turn vote and the leg after being the blind U-Turn. In this U-Turn vote, the teams at the start of the leg cast their votes on who they want to U-Turn and they get to do it without revealing their votes to the team who votes after them.
I was going to comment this as well! God, TAR Au 2 is such an amazing season! Did you know about the unaired Must Vote U-Turn in leg 8 that sent Sticky & Sam home?
If I ever make it onto this show, my plan is to have a t-shirt made giving shoutouts to a couple of previous teams. Me and 1 of my SIL are gonna try and apply to this show. Hopefully in time for next summer….crossing fingers
I love U-turns in the early parts of the season, as someone who always roots for the teams that are not super strong. I think they get ruined when people lock them, I enjoy seeing the two leading teams struggling against each other, but when it doesn't work out that way it's horrible to watch.
The voting u-turn in Season 31 will forever be one of the best moments in TAR history. Imagine getting U-turned because one team knew the least about you 💀 and it was Rachael too which is even better if you watched her last two seasons on the show.
Imagine if they made it so both people had to do a road block. This would be a lot more fair while also providing more of a challenge and risk to the team that has to have both do it
I feel like not using the Uturn could be a good strategic decision if you are are very strong team regularly winning legs. Keeps the other teams fighting among themselves when you would otherwise be a huge target.
Season 16 have the most brutal u-turn ever in the history of the race. The task is too decode morse code in a mock war, just imagine to hear the code sound in all the chaos around, i feel this side of detour is imbalance if u dont know how to hear morse code

As a long time fan of both TAR and Survivor, I have never understood the “immoral” argument for alliances. It’s the most organic advantage to organize and get out an agreed upon threat. Lol
I don't mind alliances as long as it's within the realm of a slowdown or transportation. But if it's within a task like infamous 32, 23's robot Roadblock with Amy and Nicole, or Brooke complaining to almost every racer performing at the strainer Roadblock in the strangers season, there has to be boundaries for answer or action-sharing, otherwise, you're not completing the task as it was intended. It's cheating at that point and should result in a penalty.
I don't generally watch Amazing race, Survivor is my show, but it feels like Amazing race is more light hearted and friendly(sometimes) than Survivor which is far more cutthroat, and directly working to remove a person is common and required to win. Where as Amazing race is simply to not be last. So the u-turn comes off as a drastic and deliberate attack on another group in comparison.
TAR used to be just as cutthroat after Charla & Mirna came into the scene in season 5. I'm not sure why the direction they are taking now is like this. It's honestly kind of making the show into a circus.
