I followed the advice about "everyone needs a 50mm prime!" and I don't regret owning this Panny 25mm. It's build quality and capture results fit my budget. And it is great at night!

Love this lens, use it every day: such nice images, and really versatile. It has a decent lens hood which you can flip over and click in place for storage with the lens. Really nice cost-effective system.

Hey Grant, great video. Absolutely love this lens, especially on my G9. A lot of the shots on my website as well as social media stuff have been shot with it. A great wedding lens for sure.

My first prime was on the Oly side of things and was the 25mm f1.8 then the 45mm f1.8. Honestly now that I own the Sigma 30mm f1.4 I wish I had it as my first prime. So versatile if you aren't afraid to use your feet to frame your shot.

I have several prime lenses for Olympus, but mostly I use Panasonic Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f3.5-5.6 ASPH II, most for video!

I just ordered a Panasonic LUMIX GH6, a small rig cage, Leica 12-60mm F2.8, 35mm Sirui Anamorphic Lens, & Panasonic 25mm 1.7 to say I’m excited to finally upgrade my video is an understatement!

Hey Grant. You are absolutely correct about this lens. I have been using Fuji cameras and lens since the first X100 came out. After reading about M4/3, I decided to give it a try. I now now the GX9, the summilux 15, Panasonic 25 and 42.5. Although I am not crazy about the view finder, the camera and lenses have been quite a treat to use. You were instrumental in my going with the GX9. Regards…Wayne

I'm look at getting either the 25mm or 15mm you mention here. Would you say the 15mm is worth paying so much more for over the 25mm?

    • @wtr4397
      @wtr4397 8 месяцев назад +2

@@Skapete Good afternoon. The 15mm is worth the dollars. I see no reason to upgrade from Panasonic for the other lenses. I use the 15 mm most of the time.

My first prime was a Laowa 17mm f1.8 fully manual, but second was the PL 25/f1.7…
Both are surprisingly good for the small price. The 35mm equivalent Laowa fits my needs a little better in therms of field of view…

The Pan 25mm f1.7 lens is pretty good, I have one.
I also have the Olympus 25mm f1.8, it's more compact, to go with my Panasonic GM1. But the Oly 25mm costs more on the used market.
    Thanks. toronto canada.

Hi Grant, got to say, loving your content. Everything you have said about the 25mm lens is how I feel about my Lumix 20mm 1.7 lens. (Paired with my GX9) ❤

Saw one of these in a Cex today for only £88. I would have snapped it up if I hadn't already spent a bundle on lenses a couple of days ago. Also wondering if it's so necessary when I've got three other lenses covering or close to that FL. 😅
Anyway, checking the youtube reviews. What's the first result? Grant Robert Davies. That'll do nicely. 👍

I agree with you about picking one lens. I’ve had this philosophy for a long time that I think about often and usually keeps me from buying tons of lenses. The philosophy is if I can’t master this one lens, what is buying another focal length of lens going to do? If I can’t master the 50 I’m currently using, buying another lens isn’t going to change anything. That’s just my feeling. I’m still learning about 4-3 system. I once used a Japanese market lumix with a lumix 25 1.7 and that lens was absolutely ridiculous. The size and the weight along with the image output, I was seriously jaw dropped. I’ve shot with everything from Pentax to Leica and entering in between, that lumix lens and photos out of the 4-3 totally stunned me. Thanks for this video and insight

For my self I tend to see things a little different, a 35 mm full frame equivalent would be my first choice a 5omm equivalent second and something wide like that new Panasonic 9mm f1.7 witch is part of my travel camera Olympus EM5 MKIII and the Panasonic G95.

not a bad lens, but I always turn to my 20mm constantly. There's something about the 20 that i prefer over the 25mm

I completely agree with you. The Panasonic 25mm f1.7 is a great prime to start with.
It's a bit big but feels light on my GX8.
My only concern with it is in the looks department. Mounted on my all black GX8, it makes the camera look a bit too much like a Leica Q2 or Q3.
I sometimes go to events with Leica Q shooters, and I don't want to look like a wannabe Leica shooter with my GX8, so I'll mount a lens, that doesn't make it look at all like a Leica. But, that's all superficial and has nothing to do with the performance of the lens.
