    While doing the video and going through all the content on Tasha/Zubilna/Iggwilv, I noticed one interesting thing. In the Wild Beyond the Witchlight, the is a moment with Time Jars (you can check those on my preview btw!) that show Zubilna past(as Iggwilv, Tasha), present (as Zubilna) and future (as some crone!). But who is that?
    My guess would be either Zubilna transition is not over and WOTC hinted us that she will return in next adventures as the powerful crone,
    OR she is actually going to become next Baba Yaga and the cycle starts anew,
    OR Baba Yaga had a long-term scheme playing and she's preparing a powerful host for herself!
    What do you think?

    • @jallyraja
      @jallyraja 2 года назад +1

      I do have a hard time believing that Baba Yaga, that child eating crone, would care for and raise any other tasty children without a VERY big ulterior motive driving her, such as, as you said, A new powerful host for her to occupy.

    • @zengunslinger
      @zengunslinger 2 года назад +4

      Maybe Baba Yaga IS her future self. No one said that her timeline was linear

    • @TellmeLore
      @TellmeLore  2 года назад +3

      @@zengunslinger well since Baba Yaga could travel with her hut through multiverse (she even had stuff from WW1 and some cyborg equipment in the hut), she definetly could have travelled back to teach herself some arts.

      THANK YOU!!!!! This is extremely helpful for me as a DM running Wild Beyond the Witchlight! I am planning to do an extension of the campaign involving Baba Yaga, and am in LOVE with the idea that Tasha/Iggwilv/Zybilna is actually destined to become Baba Yaga. I also love the idea that she has always been Baba Yaga and basically adopted her younger self to teach herself magic!

    “When I first learned magic from Baba Yaga, I couldn’t help but add spectral chicken legs to all my spells. She said she wasn’t a fan, but I caught her grinning a few times. So of course I still add those legs. What use is magic if you can’t harness it to amuse your mom?” -Tasha, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything
    There is so much to unpack from this one quote, and I love it. That Tasha was so eager and playful with Baba Yaga as a child. That Baba Yaga actually has a side with a more wholesome sense of humor. That Tasha still holds affection for Baba Yaga as her mother after all these… centuries? millennia? The fact that Tasha, witch par excellence and [spoiler], not only dishes out ninth level spells that have magical chicken legs sprouting from them as they fly through the air, she PROUDLY has this fact published in her book for all to read.
    Somebody had a lot of fun fleshing out her character beyond power-hungry, ambitious and Graz’zt’s Kismesis.

    oh man. I've been running WBTW for half a year or so now and this just completely blew my mind. Glad I found this. It has completely changed how I see Zybilna and how the ending of this campaign is going to play out. This must have been a ton of work and for that I thank you. Amazing summary. On Tasha though, I will note for all those people who think she's good now, no, she's still a villain. If you look in Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft under the entry for Isolde, who runs The Carnival domain of dread, it makes it pretty explicitly clear that Tasha enslaved her to run it for her, against her will, and then even went so far as to manipulate and alter her mind and memories so that she couldn't't escape. Tasha, a white woman, enslaved Isolde, who is very clearly depicted in VRGtR as black. She's still a villain.

    How much of Zybilna is just an act? She obviously still has sadistic impulses, but she also does seem to be protective of children and apparently even recognizes the players if she met them in their youth. Is that all just a mask, or has pretending to be a good person actually made her a better person? She’s been “feeding her good wolf” as it were.

    • @Living_Life242
      @Living_Life242 2 года назад +2

      Actually, the Jars of Time on page 199 show us that her future form will be of a “white-haired crone or hag”. So even if her current guise as Zybilna is at least partially earnest, as things stand, she seems destined to become an even darker creature than she once was.

    • @TellmeLore
      @TellmeLore  2 года назад +2

      I think she would play along and pretend to be better as long as it's beneficial for her. But switching natures is kinda of her nature lol

    • @Living_Life242
      @Living_Life242 2 года назад +1

      @@TellmeLore Oh! I actually like that as an explanation! I was hung up on a sense of “duality”, such as her Cauldron, how she has the company of Hags as well as Snicker-Snack, how she helps children yet has done such evil things in the past, etc.
      It made me think she was meant to portray her ultimate nature as ambiguous and her fate open to interpretation… up until the Jars shows us what she will become.
      But the idea that her nature could change back and forth so readily makes much more sense to me. Perhaps after being a Hag she will turn into a Angel (she made Tasha’s Otherworldly Guise after all) for a time, then after that a Devil, etc.
      Edit: it also really contrasts her with her maddeningly True Neutral mentor/foe/chess partner Mordenkainen.

    In my Witchlight, our paladin is aligned to zyblna. I reskinned the "moving inn" to be baba yaga's hut. The group will be setting out to rescue zyblna from the carnival of fear, where she is being imprisoned by Isolde. Baba Yaga will give them insight into her past, conflicting thier cause, and hopefully they side with Isolde and let her have her vengeance. Or they could still try to set Zyblna free and have to fight Isolde and the Carnival of Fear.

    • @TellmeLore
      @TellmeLore  2 года назад

      Since its about 1496DR at the moment and the event with hag happens around 1480DR+- , we may assume she was in statis for about 15 years. But there is an optional rule for Feywild - 'Time Warp'. Meaning that time flows chaotically and differently in comparison to Material Plane. So you never know. I mean if you are ruling the campaign you may technically change it as much as you see fitting. But if you speed it up too much, you may end up in Interstellar setting, when players return from Feywild after 1 month, and see it's actually 7 years forward on material plane😅
