Very cute, creative canon and video. As an old black powder guy I'd be a lot less aggressive when tamping powder and projectiles down inside that barrel. You could end up blinded or missing some fingers. Or worse. I'll be building a similar little guy with triggering by remote control, and loaded with bbs to kill rats at two or three feet. Cheers!
Yeah, I've watched a whole bunch of BP cannon vids this morning, and not one of them bothered to bolt the cannon down to something solid to improve the velocity of the cannon shot or prevent the cannon itself from blowing backwards and making the cannon itself a flying projectile. I think that should be a basic test of whether a person should be allowed to have a cannon. lol
Cool Vid. A big improvement would be to bolt it to something heavy. That would impart the highest velocity to the projectile and make aiming more consistent. As for compressing the powder charge....not likely prematurely boom, but not really an advantage, so why bother, and there is some risk of sparking so don't do it (zero chance beats slim chance any day). T he powder will be compressed adequately when the projectile and patch are seated. End of story.

Good, well now I know at least how hard I can tamp my black powder
Get a brass bolt or better wood tamper , don't be over the barrel when loading!
this is blowing my mind
I like how he is packing it with a bolt never safe
@xavier xman13 steel on steel has a chance of sparking.

good job
I like your video .pls say to me how to make gun powder for this canon

all these comments about anchoring it down to get more force.... brush up on your physics before pretending to be smart.

Know what would make a great carriage / base? Cut off leaf spring brackets....And use a wooden rammer or non ferrous metal, please.
