    Like you said in your video, there are so many different starters out there. I started making sour dough about 20 years ago. It was before internet. I got my starter and sour dough instructions out of the newspaper. To compare, mine has instant mashed potatoes in it, and it kind of reminds you of sour mash. You don't put any flour in mine until you bake bread. The starter also has yeast and sugar. The feeder, has instant mashed potatoes, water, sugar. No more yeast. It's starts growing on its own. You feed it every 3 to 5 days. It takes my breads 8 to 12 hours to proof. So its quite the challenge to work it into busy life. Now that I'm retired, it's much easier. If you want the recipe, let me know. In some of your video's you said you would love to hear the different types of starters and breads. No way am I saying mine is better than yours, just letting you know a different type. Love your video's.

    The recipe we use is 1/2 cup Whole wheat flour, 1/4-1/3 cup water and 2 tbsp starter. I find it less watery that way and it seems very happy. Sourdough is so fun!

    I would love more details about how to use starter that's been stored in the fridge to make bread. Warming time, feeding, when and how to incorporate into the recipe, whatever proofing is needed, how long to proof, etc., as well as how to restore/keep the starter going after having used it, especially if you're keeping only 300g of it in the fridge. Hopefully this is not a duplicate request or something you've already done--I'm still working my way through your videos. Thank you!

    How is it good for your septic? I've read horror stories and have to throw mine away in the trash so I don't put it down the sink. Please, I'm very interested in finding out how this could help a septic system.

    • @TheKneadyHomesteader
      @TheKneadyHomesteader  4 года назад +1

      I don’t see how it could be bad. It’s no different than rinsing pancake batter down as far as the flour, and no different than any other fermented food. Do your own research and think logically about it. I have no doubt that rinsing sourdough starter discard down the drain is perfectly fine.

    • @penny6321
      @penny6321 4 года назад +2

      A septic functions using good bacteria. A top up of healthy sourdough bacteria helps keep the septic operating well. Perhaps you are thinking of the dough clogging the drain? But that won’t happen if it’s washed down the sink with enough water 😊
