I was in Japan with my wife for 2 weeks and were under similar situations just like in the video. Once a bunch of school teenage girls were obviously looking at me and my wife, and just gossiping between them. Another time, in Osaka, an old lady approached me and asked me my country of origin, she was pleased to know I was mexican and even shared that she visited Mexico once. And finally, one last time a young lady, around her 20s, talked to me while I was at a sake bar , she was really interested into talking to me and even my wife said: you are popular bro lol. Funny thing is that I am a regular latino, not taller than 170 cms and with full beard, something not very attractive to japanese standards.
Would you say Southern Europeans would have a similar experience in Japan? I wonder how Japan perceive us, since we're Europeans but not like North-Western Europeans.
The nose thing is accurate but I've been living in Japan well over a year now and nobody goes up to you to speak English.. it's the opposite, you gotta go to them, speak a little Japanese, then they get real excited and the English comes out then. However, whenever I went to Philippines, they were super up front about my nose and how they thought I was handsome (I'm 5'8 so clearly it wasn't the height) and I was even approached by my now fiance. But for real guys, don't go to Japan because you're absolutely expecting some smoke show "kawaii~~" Japanese chick to walk up to you and wanna bang it out right there, just go there and enjoy the food, the culture, the sights, and don't be an asshole and you'll hopefully make a friend or two..and that is wayyyy better than some random Japanese girlfriend because if you make a friend in Japan, they'll be your friend for life. And they'll show you where the best food is. Just enjoy your time there, and don't be awkward or stupid.
Nah big nose is pretty culturally relative as a beauty standard. Also got way way way more play in Japan than I ever had elsewhere. Definitely white privilege but it was nice in some ways while it lasted. In other ways it made me feel like an animal from the zoo.
I've lived there and girls can stalk you if they like you , it's a bit scary, following you to the station and getting on the train with you when you're going home, There are many like this.
I visited Tokyo in November 2016. They were going down the stairs, I was going up. To this day, I felt like a mini celebrity in that moment 😅

As a 6’4” thin white guy with lots of tattoos I’ve been told a few times that if I went to Japan the girls would be infatuated with me, but I’m too afraid to go because I’m terrified that literally nothing would happen and I’d just be at the hotel sad and alone. 😂😂😂
While I was in Japan, rather than 鼻高い, I was told “your nose is big” by my friends. I had to explain to them that’s kind of rude for most English speaking countries. The gossip thing was also so true lol. Honestly it was amazing for my confidence since what I heard was イケメン, and interestingly enough 歯白 (his teeth are white) while chilling in an onsen. I’m never sure how to react to these but it’s a little embarrassing to hear people talk about you when they think you don’t understand what they’re saying.
I've not experienced it first had but it seems quite endearing really. We're something different and they're not afraid to notice and be interested in those differences.
@@noahpaulette1490 the criticism most people have is that a lot of these people are treating foreigners as some kind of rare animal and pointing out the parts that are different. I think there is a lot of truth to this of course, but at the same time I also don’t think it’s all that terrible. People will be naturally interested in someone different from them which is pretty easy when you’re in a country with like 98% homogeneity.

Good luck with that. The reason they're like this is because Japan is very protective in terms of immigration. They don't see diversity as their greatest strength like Obama. It's the most racially homogenous major country on the planet. It's not impossible to move there, but it's not easy either.
same thing in major cities of practically any country nowadays. it's countryside where people might be either negatively or positively surprised to see a foreigner. globalization is making things dull

I can do most of those things correctly, but I am awkward in my own country, so I’m screwed there.

I've not experienced it first had but it seems quite endearing really. We're something different and they're not afraid to notice and be interested in those differences.
@@noahpaulette1490 the criticism most people have is that a lot of these people are treating foreigners as some kind of rare animal and pointing out the parts that are different.
