Places you visit as a tourist should be determined by your personal interests, knowledge and passions. I make a bee-line for every archaeological site because I'm well-read in this subject, and visiting them excites my imagination and satisfies my curiosity. I don't understand why anyone would want to visit an ancient Pictish broch if they've never heard of Picts or brochs and have no interest in the subject. It would mean nothing to them ---- just a pile of rocks. Many tourists simply go to places that appear on some list of "must-sees." But there are no "must sees" other than the Great Pyramids or the Grand Canyon. In the 19th Century, when commercial tourism became practical for a large number of people, the "must-see" lists were based on the interests of literary people, who were much intrigued by medieval art and architecture. Consequently, millions of tourists were herded through cathedral after cathedral and art gallery after art gallery, even though they had no special interest in religion or medieval art, and the paintings were largely incomprehensible to them. Mark Twain satirized this in some of his books, complaining that he had been dragged to see two different skulls of Christopher Columbus, "one as a man and the other as a boy." It so happens that I enjoy medieval art --- but I don't want to bankrupt myself looking at it, and I don't want to look at it in a crowd of bored people who really don't want to be there.

This is a really incoherent video that just keeps preaching the same message while glossing over specifics. And that voice is really annoying.
