6:50 i actually have a cool story about that song, i saw it when i was 7 years old and i didnt remembered the name of the song (i speak hebrew), i only remembered a guy with a drum, the music a little and a floor made out pf lava, after 3 years i saw the 2016 Eurovision song contest again and i found out that this was the song that i remembered his music so much time, now i really likes this song!
2016 was a fine year, practically almost every performance (even the less than stellar ones!) really felt like it was on a different stage, hell, a different plane of existence, and that itself kinda elevated each performance. 41: Geez, starting this commentary off strong with an entry I’m pretty sure almost everyone forgot. Have you listened to the club remix of this? It’s...interesting if not a bit generic. 40: Can’t believe i would ever say this about Moldova but...oh yeah, they competed this year. 39: I think the like to dislike ratio on the live performance says a lot already. 38: Oof, normally I don’t MIND when a song gets translated into English, but something about how this entry does it rubs me the wrong way. 36: haha funny pole man go weeeeeee 35: And this would start the downwards meme spiral San Marino would be in now. We have been either blessed or cursed depending on if people actually tolerate San Marino. 34: Eck, this one makes me irrationally angry until I have to remind myself it’s a 3 minute song. Still don’t quuuite like it. 31: Talk about taking influence from last year’s entries. Kinda feels like they just slapped random effects where it didn’t fit and called it a day but...at least it kinda looks okay? 30: I still don’t quite under the outfit, it probably would’ve gotten a somewhat higher placement if it was handled better. I’ve talked about this entry before in the last place ranking so I’ll just leave it at this. 28: I can’t really tell whether or not I hate this entry or secretly enjoy it. Already seems kinda divisive to begin with. Also rip, the only Nordic to qualify and it was an automatic one :( 27: I would like both parts of the song separately, both just sound like my jam, but I just do not think they mesh well together at all. Tis’ a shame cause I probably would’ve liked it. 25: I will admit the staging does seem hard to pull off (I recall in a 2019 video Sergey was reacting to his 2016 performance and saying he hurt his leg during rehearsals) 21: They have a pretty decent track record if their worst result was being the closest to qualify that year. 15: The Czech were taking baby steps this half-decade and I really think it paid off. Kinda sucks it got 0 televote points but...I kinda get it. 14: Ah Georgia, just doing its own thing. I’m afraid I just can’t sit through that performance, not because it’s bad, but because the flashing lights always give me a headache. 9: Man, getting sick during Eurovision must be the worst. 6: I think this is up there with my top 3 Cypriot entries. This live isn’t nearly as flashy as Georgia’s so I can kinda sit through it. 5: Yeah, this is actually really fun. The hosts put a lot of work into making this eurovision look very expensive and high quality. And there was a new and renewed focus on perfecting the staging after Mans' victory! 41: I'm not really super into remixes, but I do think this song really needed some revitalisation... It definitely has some fans but the performance is too cringe for me. 😂 40: Moldova does have the odd bland moment, which is a shame because they're usually so interesting! 39: Apparently some corruption or scandal went down, I think, which explains why they were even there... 35: I'm kind of torn! Current San Marino has given us some hilarious and iconic moments, but leaning hard into their meme status sometimes doesn't amuse me (I liked next to nothing about Who We Are) and I think it would be a shame if they ditched the idea of letting artists from such a tiny country like Valentina have a real moment. 34: I kind of like the song but the whole performance is just so... Grating. I'd rank this lower now but I think I'd been streaming the studio version quite a bit when I made this video. 28: So weird that this year feels very scandipop influenced but the only one in the final was Sweden! I quite like the verses but the whole thing does irrationally annoy me a little. 25: Yes, I heard he literally fell of the thing in rehearsals. I think he's a great talent to have pulled it off so seamlessly and so are the people who made the staging work, but I have to admit that just because it's impressive doesn't necessarily mean I prefer it to other songs. 21: They were so strong in the 2000s! It's a shame this entry didn't quite make it, the raw potential is there but it's a little messy. 9: Really the worst timing considering her voice is her biggest strength... She covered Suus! 2: I've tried to explain it over the years but I think she was just forgotten, which is a real shame :( I adore her and this song. 1: Sooo this is my favourite ESC song ever :) I do think it's not the most accessible song and was VERY pleasantly surprised when she won. It more disappoints me when people point to the political nature of the song as a reason to hate it- imo, eurovision, music, and art are all inherently political in some way. And to label a song about her family history as too political as though its propaganda or the like just feels in bad taste. I'm glad it's gotten a lot of recognition regardless of the controversies, either way. I am working on my 2008 video for some fresh n exciting content but it's a little difficult because there's quite a few NQs I don't think I've heard before that I need to form an opinion on! Looking back now in 2023, 2016 is my favourite year, my all time winner is from this year -Poland. thanks for putting him at your 11, Michal Szpak is a total superstar in my eyes. number one for me of all time. Yeahhh, when I made this video I didn't realise people would leave such furious hate comments, but maybe that's a good thing because it made me honest 😂 I like him a lot... The song is okay... I really dislike the performance. Overall, a decent entry but not one of my favourites. Armenia and Iceland are now my third and second place, actually 😊 Such amazing entries!!

I like that you're honest but I think this Jamala was not at all deserving of this victory, Russia should've gotten it in my opinion but there's no changing things now. Still happy you liked Midnight Gold and Heartbeat though :)
Down to personal taste alone, I was really happy to see Jamala win. If Sergey had won, I'd say he deserved it too because I try and stay supportive of winners, but I have to admit the song/performance just doesn't work for me personally nor is it my idea of a strong winner. But I understand why people really like it. Midnight Gold especially is super underrated by the fanbase. 🤠
I find it very bland, maybe I would've liked it by a different artist/with different staging, but as it stands, it is the performance I enjoyed the least by far. Probably the least bad last place I've allocated on this channel so far, though!

I like that you're honest but I think this Jamala was not at all deserving of this victory, Russia should've gotten it in my opinion but there's no changing things now. Still happy you liked Midnight Gold and Heartbeat though :)
Down to personal taste alone, I was really happy to see Jamala win. If Sergey had won, I'd say he deserved it too because I try and stay supportive of winners, but I have to admit the song/performance just doesn't work for me personally nor is it my idea of a strong winner. But I understand why people really like it.
Midnight Gold especially is super underrated by the fanbase. 🤠

I find it very bland, maybe I would've liked it by a different artist/with different staging, but as it stands, it is the performance I enjoyed the least by far. Probably the least bad last place I've allocated on this channel so far, though!
