Imagine fighting Serris, seeing Sector 5 demolished by Nightmare, being chased by the SA-X, etc in Dread's style. @@darkmaster1455 oh yeah i agree with you. I def think they should remake/remaster Fusion. Running through ZDR I kept thinking of how insane it would be if this was how Fusion played with the SA-X being even more deadly and even having an encounter with more than just one
It's the best game to start with because it is technically the first in the series, although it is a remake. And it's also a damn good game that has everything great about Metroid in one package.
Fusion was such a menacing game that felt like the biggest threat to samus in the series imo. The x oarasite was straight out of a “the thing” universe and had bosses that were so sick. Like the human messing the machine up and crumpling into the floor was just one of a ton of moments that I went damn, this is a Nintendo game?
Not only is zero mission my favorite metroid game, it's my favorite game full stop. The amount of variety in gameplay through the many different endings has never gotten old for me. I've been playing it since I was 7 or so, and still go back occasionally to play it now. It is also equally the easiest and hardest game I've ever played. A normal playthrough is a joke, but a normal mode 9% run? That was the single hardest challenge I've ever done in any game.
I say Metroid Fusion because it raised the standard for the 2D Metroid series. Even if you favor Zero Mission you have to appreciate the good and bad in Fusion. I also think Zero Mission learned from Fusion mistakes, made the proper adjustments, and built upon what the fans love. Looking forward to playing it on Switch. 💯
Fusion's my favorite but Zero Mission's fantastic. It might be slightly easier than the NES original but it's still challenging. IMO, it's easier than Dread but harder than Fusion.
I was pretty sure that Zero Mission was already planned to be released on Switch Online GBA. Even without the leaks, it makes perfect sense. And if we're talking about favorites, I'd have to go with Zero Mission over Fusion. Mainly because it had less heavy dialogue and it showed us the origin of Samus' fully powered suit.
I started Metroid like a year or so ago and I left it unfinished. Then about a week ago I played Metroid: Return of Samus, and I found it more enjoyable, then went back to Metroid and then to Super Metroid, all within a week. I will buy Metroid Prime this paycheck, and when my uncle joins the family plan, we'll be getting the expansion pack too. Needless to say, these two months are gonna be filled with Metroid for me.
Fusion does a lot of good storytelling. But the suspense of the game does it well, as it does carry that same sense of fear into Dread. So chronologically speaking I have to give an edge to Fusion there. Zero Mission has a few nice tie in's as a precursor to Super Metroid. I like Zero Mission for it's open ended approach to sequence breaking. Want to fight Ridley First. Sure. I remember doing a hardmode run taking on Ridley first which made Kraid a piece of cake. Imago larva was a pain in the arse on hard. I think from replayability overall I give it to Zero Mission. Tho what ultimately I'd love to see out of ZM is the reverse escape sequence done RTA. It's stupidly tight in terms of timing, but if a machine can pull it off, maybe a human can eventually.
I was REALLY hoping they'd release zero mission for NSO. Fusion was one of my favorite games as a kid and I never was able to buy zero mission and it was always seemed split down the middle which one people thought was better, so I knew it was great.
I love the environment and atmosphere of Fusion, but I do enjoy how open ZM is. Overall though, I think I'd have to pick Fusion, though it is close for me.
Zero mission was the definitive 2D metroid experience, it gave something for those first joining the series and the veterans. It has some of the BEST shinespark puzzles and has samus feeling her best to control.
Zero Mission is the better Metroid game, but Fusion is a better Metroid story. Zero Mission has some of the best parts of all of the 2D Metroid games up until that point. Fusion creates an element of fear, isolation, and dread that can only be compared to Alien Isolation, and Metroid's original inspiration; Ridley Scott's "Alien". I have yet to see another Metroid game truly create dread in that way. The EMMI of Metroid Dread come close, but the fact that there's visibly a lot of them (they're also colored like a handful of skittles), you kill them fairly easily throughout the game, and they aren't really a personal enemy makes them not quite as frightening as they could have been. The SA-X was the perfect Alien to Samus' Ellen Ripley.
Fusion was my first experience with Metroid as a kid so it will always hold a special place in my heart and personally gotta put it over Zero mission because of that. That being said i love zero mission as well, those two games were my fuqin jam on Gameboy when i was a kid.
Hope they manufacture more physical copies of the Metroid Prime 1 Remaster and restock on them eventually if not soon, because there sold out practically everywhere and hardcore Metroid Collectors who want a physical copy for there collection are everywhere.
Scalpers didnt help the physical copy shortage. I wanted a physical copy but had to settle w a digital copy. Its 1 part it sold better then nintendo thought it would and 1 part scalpers.
Oh man that is a really hard question. Both Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission were huge parts of my childhood. They are some of my favorite GBA games. I think I would give Fusion a very slight edge over Zero Mission just because Fusion was my very first Metroid game ever when I was like 10 years old. Both are absolutely amazing and still so much fun to play even like 20 years later!
The best part about this game is they don't tell you shit on what to do next... Metroid is like a test for newcomers to see if they are worthy game masters. I was playing prime and I forgot what to do next. I just speed run each door until I make progress. Lol
Determining a preferred one is somewhat difficult. Zero Mission is a rawer Metroid experience. Light on story, heavy on exploration and non-linearity. Also, despite being a remake it has a buttload of brand new stuff. I always loved that stealth segment you have to do after losing your Power Suit after Mother Brain. Fusion is more story based and railroads you more, but it has amazing atmosphere and is the closest the franchise has ever come to a Horror experience. (Fusion’s soundtrack particularly seems to enjoy scare chords and very tension building music.) I think I personally prefer Fusion, but if I were recommending a game for someone getting into the franchise, I’d tell them to go with Zero Mission because that experience will be closer to what they’d also experience in games like Super Metroid or Return of Samus.
Is Zero Mission a shorter game than the original? Or was it longer. And it’s the same story I take it considering it’s a remake. Just added elements to the story or something ?
Return of Samus and Samus Returns are closer to Fusion. Fusion's progression is based on Metroid 2 in fact. And the Prime games all have their progression based on Fusion except for Hunters. And then Other M is essentially Fusion in 3D. Really, the only games that even resemble the progression of Zero Mission are the original, Super, and Dread. Everything else had been based on Fusion, which was based on Metroid 2. However, I also agree that one should start with Zero Mission because the Metroid series has a lot of things that rely on one playing in chronological order and Zero Mission does a much better job of introducing new players to the franchise than Fusion; introducing new players was one of the priorities of Zero Mission as a game after all. In terms of what to expect from the franchise in general though, Fusion more accurately represents the vast majority of Metroid games. Zero Mission is more so an outlier along with Super and Dread. So depending on what you mean by "raw experience" Fusion may be the more raw experience.
MZM was a great breath of fresh air to a very old game. Updated and modernized story gameplay and graphics. A masterful remake by today's standards. And great for speed running. But Fusion wasy first Gameboy metroid game. My first horror and thriller and it's story is still one of my favorites for being so narrative driven.
I’ve played both, and that’s a tough question. I liked Fusion because it was my first real Metroid game, which I played to prepare for Dread when it was announced, but I also like Zero Mission because it has some of what Super Metroid, the best 2D Metroid game, had in terms of exploration. I guess if I had to pick one of them, it’d be Fusion because it paved the way for how 2D Metroid games should feel in terms of movement.
Played both, they are pretty equal, but I will give the edge to Zero Mission because it doesn’t have those awful SAX sections. The first few were intense, but after that they become really annoying
I can't pick which one I love more. They're both outstanding. Zero Mission answered the one question I had after playing Super Metroid. Where did the wrecked ship come from? After playing ZM, I got my answer. Fusion was a great sequel to SM. Especially since it brought back enemies from Metroid 2 and SM. Granted, they were cloned from the X parasites, but it was still awesome to see them again. Nintendo did well with both games.
Between fusion and zero mission, I like fusion just a tiny bit more. But that’s because fusion was the first Metroid game I played, zero mission is really close too, I always recommend both of them. Dread is my favorite though. And Samus returns is my second favorite.
I decided to randomly pick up Metroid Dread when it released after seeing some gameplay. I loved that game so much I played it over and over and even began to speedrun it. Since then I have been playing all the Metroid Ports on the switch and picked up Prime Remastered as soon as I could. I really hope all the games get ported over or remastered for Prime 2 and 3 so that I can get to enjoy everything.
Growing up, I had preferred Zero Mission because it felt more refined than Fusion, as it was the later game. I’m going to replay both fresh on Switch (when ZM inevitably drops) and have to reassess all these years later if I agree with my past self, or if time has changed me.
Even without the leak I do think Zero Mission is all but confirmed to arrive on NSO Expansion Pack eventually. But the main question would be when. Nintendo did show a selection of future games to come, but currently the release schedule isn’t known. With GBA introduced in February, we’ve had one update at the beginning of March with 1 new game (being Fusion). It will remain to be seen, but if GBA becomes a monthly release of one game each, then the earliest we might get Zero Mission is August. Anyways, I do enjoy both a fair bit and played Fusion for the first time in awhile, but I personally prefer Zero Mission for its ways you can speed run and sequence break it. That same feeling is what had drawn me into Super Metroid and made it one of my top Metroid games.
Zero Mission was my first Metroid game back on the GBA when I was a child. Fusion was my second. I probably won't get the NSO expansion just for these games because of the sheer amount of times I have already beaten them. Personally it's not worth dumping money into something you already know like the back of your hand.
I figured they'd bring over zero mission. I missed out on that and fusion back then, so I'm looking forward to playing them! I just got Metroid: Samus Returns on 3DS recently, so I'm currently playing that. Keep on coming with the Metroid goodness!
I honestly only ever really played Metroid Dread. But my best friend when I was younger who spent more time at my house then I did sometimes. Played through Prime and so I watched pretty much all of it and still have that connection. After finding out Zero Miasion is what it is , which I did not know before this video. I hope it comes to Switch.
I love the intense story and chase sequences in Fusion, and the throwbacks to Super Metroid (like our animal friends making an appearance), but I also have the same nostalgia you do from Zero Mission. If I had to choose one, I might go with Zero Mission, though. But it's really a toss up, honestly.
Though I love the story in fusion, I think I like playing zero mission more. I love how they not only remade the original but added to it, enhanced it, “remastered” it, if you will.
Playing Zero Mission - Prime 1, 2, 3 Remastered - AM2R - Super Metroid - Metroid Fusion - Metroid Dread - Metroid Prime 4 all on modern hardware (just have to use a Steam Deck for AM2R because Nintendo will never be cool about it) with Other M burning in the nearest dumpster is the dream.
The bad part of all of this is we won't be able to buy fusion, zero mission, super metorid or Samus returns. I would like to have a physical copy of all 4 games including a remastered version of Suprr metroid. Now only if castlevania would step up
Oof you can't just chose like that, both games bring something different to the table that adds a level off uniqueness. When you start Zero Mission, you are introduced to the world of Zebes with heroic fanfare. When you start Fusion, the music gives you a sense of danger, a sense of Dread, a sense that everything around you is all about to go down hill.
Zero Mission is my favourite of the two, and probably my favourite 2D Metroid. I didn't get into the series for real until during the hype build up for Metroid Prime 3, and Zero Mission was the first one I played (after Super on the Virtual Console).
2D-HD remaster of Super Metroid. Something akin to the Pixel Remasters of Final Fantasy, with improved backgrounds, remastered music and sounds, keep controls the same.
I see a bright future for Metroid personally I never played it Only played Mario, Zelda, Pokémon,… Now I just bought Prime, dread, samus returns and the Nintendo online to play the retro ones. And I don’t think I’m the only one !!
Zero Mission has the best story of any Metroid because it’s, well, the origin story. It details the Chozo and space pirates more than any other in the series. Mechanically it’s the same as Fusion. But speaking of gameplay mechanics, for some reason I still feel Super Metroid is the most fluid, even more than Samus Returns and Dread; it’s the only Metroid you can change directions in mid air 7 times while aiming or prepping a grappling hook. The only game that comes close to this level of hilarious controllability is Symphony of the Night.
Both are Excellent! Though both do 'hold your hand' way to much. The map systems, in both of these games, are more than sufficient to navigate one's own way through, without having to be told where to go (which both titles do plenty of). I suspect all of the directional guides are implemented to consider the 'pick-up-and-play-for-short-bursts' nature of their originally being released as portable titles... at a time when 'save-states' were not a thing. Even so... there are ample 'Save-Stations' within each title in there original, playable forms. but I digress... While I love them both, I've always given the slight edge to 'Zero Mission.'
Imma be honest, I can’t pick between the 2 GBA Metroids! I kinda got an attachment to Fusion cuz I played it before ZM, but ZM was soooo nice & smooth to play, and despite never playing it before I did, I rarely got lost and it just felt intuitive! So I really love them both!
This was the very first Metroid game I ever played. But the GBA cartridge I got second-hand has since deteriorated. I would give anything to play this game again!
So this is weird, but I want them to do either a remaster or a remake of Samus returns. It is on the brink of masterpiece. It needs some tweaks. And maybe some more details and some variety for the Metroid boss fights.
Definitely Zero Mission for me. A great remake of the original NES Metroid. I'd love of they remade it again with Dread's 2.5D visuals or even changed things up and made it 1st person like prime.
Zero mission was my first, and favorite, Metroid game. Then Dread came out and that won my heart, but I would be stoked if I could play Zero Mission again!
Zero Mission is my favorite of the two but my opinion is also biased because of Nostalgia for the original. One of the first games I got for my NES Christmas 1987.
I really hope it’s true and we get zero mission soon. I still have my original gba copy but can’t play my gba because the screen is too dark to see and won’t get brighter. All this Metroid love lately has been great especially new fans playing fusion for the first time
My gut is telling me that Metroid Prime 4 is around the corner, perhaps after the next two Prime remasters, and will be a grande finale for the metroid series. And honestly? I'd be okay with that, It's clear that by having Retro restart development they wanted it to be done right and giving the series a proper goodnight is more than I dared to hope for for a long time.
Lifelong Metroid fan here, zero mission has always been my #1 game up until dread came out, and even then I’m still hesitant to call dread better because zero mission is just so addicting to play
Zero Mission because OG samus with the fully powered up gravity/plasma/ice beam combo will always be better than ice missiles or a separate weak af ice beam in my personal opinion.
hoping the zero mission port, and probably prime 2 and 3 ports are their push to get people caught up for prime 4, the also possible downside is prime 4 is not happening and this is what they're giving us. really hope it's the former.
Fusion is my Favorite from the GBA and we Need a New remake of Fusion in Dread Style and honestly feel like Metroid other M doesn't count and also was on the Wii from Years ago.
I really want to play ZM and Fusion on my switch, but I know if I do I'll have to get the switch online expansion pass, and those 30 dollars a year just aren't worth it to me for games I can emulate. I'd gladly buy the ones I really like individually on the Eshop, and I'd gladly play them on the collections in regular switch online, but I aint doing the expansion pass.
Which is better, Metroid Fusion or Metroid Zero Mission?
Zero mission it's not even close
i personally prefer metroid fusion, and that's mostly because i think zero mission is a good game, but not a good remake.

If they could modernize Fuzion with the Dreads graphics...
OOOH, I never got to play Zero Mission!
Oh heck yeah! I was hoping we'd get Zero Mission, I'm gonna be sad if this IS just a fluke
I remember Fusion more fondly. At the time I was a bit disappointed the second GBA Metroid game was a remake and not a sequel to Fusion.
Zero Mission is in my top 10 games of all time and my favorite Metroid hands down.
Metroid fusion is my favorite of a Nintendo SP series it was a breath of fresh air on a classic series.
Zero mission is such a great user friendly game
Playing Zero Mission - Prime 1, 2, 3 Remastered - AM2R - Super Metroid - Metroid Fusion - Metroid Dread - Metroid Prime 4 all on modern hardware (just have to use a Steam Deck for AM2R because Nintendo will never be cool about it) with Other M burning in the nearest dumpster is the dream.
The bad part of all of this is we won't be able to buy fusion, zero mission, super metorid or Samus returns. I would like to have a physical copy of all 4 games including a remastered version of Suprr metroid. Now only if castlevania would step up
at least until dread released, ZM was my undisputed favorite entry 2D game. Even now, it might still be. Love that one.
I see a bright future for Metroid personally
I never played it
Only played Mario, Zelda, Pokémon,…
Now I just bought Prime, dread, samus returns and the Nintendo online to play the retro ones.
And I don’t think I’m the only one !!
I just played thru this game for the first time on my 3ds and it was great currently playing all the Metroid games love the series!
If Fusion is a remake looking like Dread, that would be really epic!
its about time metroid is getting the love it deserves
Imma be honest, I can’t pick between the 2 GBA Metroids! I kinda got an attachment to Fusion cuz I played it before ZM, but ZM was soooo nice & smooth to play, and despite never playing it before I did, I rarely got lost and it just felt intuitive! So I really love them both!
“Zero Mission is coming to Nintendo Switch Online “
Me: *Surprise Pikachu face* 😮
Metroid always has been and will always be my favorite franchise- keep ‘em coming!
Metroid fusion is amazing just the atmosphere and story I could play it all day.
I kinda wish they'd remake Super Metroid in the same style as Dread. Thatd be SO sweet.
I still remember sequence breaking to get the varia suit early in this game lol!
Zero Mission is my favorite of the two but my opinion is also biased because of Nostalgia for the original. One of the first games I got for my NES Christmas 1987.
i beat metroid remake two days ago and beat fusion today. fusion all the wayyy
Never played Zero Mission, just Fusion, but I am excited to make up for lost time when this comes to the Switch
I have to go with Metroid Fusion mostly because of it being more story driven as opposed Zero Mission was.
Zero Mission got me into Metroid, love that game so much!
1:15 It's 'Game Boy Advance', not Game Boy Advanced.
hoping the zero mission port, and probably prime 2 and 3 ports are their push to get people caught up for prime 4, the also possible downside is prime 4 is not happening and this is what they're giving us. really hope it's the former.
either way this is shaping up to be a great year to be a metroid fan
Both Fusion and Zero Mission are fantastic. Of the two I like Zero Mission slightly more.
I've played both and I agree with youy. I enjoyed Zero Mission a heck of a lot more.
Dude, this is a great short video, good job!
Fusion is my Favorite from the GBA and we Need a New remake of Fusion in Dread Style and honestly feel like Metroid other M doesn't count and also was on the Wii from Years ago.
Zero Mission is such a perfect little game, and a lesson on how to do a remake.
Zero Mission and Pinball needs to on Switch online be available asap.
What it lacks in length, it more than makes up for with ridiculous Shinespark challenges.
