I would have preferred they just upscaled the visuals and given us all three games instead of the hi def remaster route they took.
Don't get me wrong, the remastered Prime 1 looks amazing, but honestly I don't think it needed it.
Besides, now people are wanting these hi def remasters of 2&3 wich is either going to be a long way off, or it's going to need to steal personnel and resources from Prime 4, further delaying it again.

This is why I don’t think they’re going to release 2 and 3 as full remasters.
With Metroid prime remastered sales off the charts, it’s a perfect time to release Metroid prime 4 to follow the hype (assuming they don’t already have prime 2 & 3 done as this report suggests). It may also be too much content too fast or slow leading too lower Prime 4 sales. I bet they wait till after Prime 4 to release 2 & 3

Usually, Nintendo is pretty lazy regarding re-releases, as they usually port the original game without any changes whatsoever and expecting their customers to pay full price, like the 3D Mario collection, the 25th anniversary Mario Collection, the 20th anniversary Kirby collection, etc. So regarding Metroid Prime's remaster, I was genuinely surprised how good they made it.

I really think it depends on the planned timing of Prime 4. While hardcore Metroid fans may be excited to play every release they can get their hands on, the more casually interested Switch owners who would make up the bulk of the consumer base for Prime 4, may get a little tired of the franchise if they release too many of them too quickly. If I were Nintendo and I had plans for Prime 4 to come out in 2023 or 2024, I'd want that game to be the next Metroid product that capitalizes on the excitement generated by Prime Remastered. Drop the number and give it a subtitle (something in the vein of Fusion, Echos, Corruption, and Dread) so that newcomers don't feel like they absolutely need to play 2 and 3 first. Then I'd later put out remasters of 2 and 3 for Switch 2.

Obviously id love to have prime 2 and 3 done as well as the recent release, but I honestly dont think theyre gona remater the whole trilogy to that extent. There was no doubt a TON of work put into that game, and to do it 2 more times just seems unlikely if you ask me. Retro has been busy with prime 4 for the past four years now. Where would they have had the time or resources to basically completely remake 2 more games?
I think what we'll be looking at for the next 2 games is a crisp HD re release, possibly some updated character models and the monderized controls from prime 1 remastered carried over. Bundle those 2 games together for 30-40 bucks and I believe most fans would be ok buying that, I certainly would. Key thing they have to do is just make it look nice and run smooth, and DONT overcharge for them. Its so important right now that NIntendo just makes metroid appeal to new and old fans as much as possible. This is their moment to take the series and make it huge.

While I agree with Prime 3 coming as an HD port, with Prime 2 I still believe in the remaster, most of Prime 2 are repurposed assets of Prime 1 and even when it originally released, it took only 2 years of development. Now they have much more than they would've back in the day, the Prime Remaster engine and assets; also art, story, powerups and map design from the original Echoes. Most if not all of the work needed for a Prime 2 remaster would be in remaking the textures and models that, while not light, it's much less conceptually than what they had to do between 2002-2004.

There was a post on reset era stating that the remastering the 3 prime games for separate instead of prime trilogy was always the original idea and retro started to work on prime 1, but then nintendo decided to give prime 4 to retro, apparently this was the reason why iron galaxy was brought on board, and it makes sense for them to do the prime 2 and 3 remasters while retro can fully focus on prime 4.

It could very easily be a case of compartmentalization, where the contractor worked on one of the games while other teams were working on the others. Naturally, he wouldn’t be aware of the status of the other games, or that they were even being worked on, because he’s only doing art for one of them and isn’t involved at a higher level.

I've been having a blast with prime remaster because the controls are how they should have been day 1. Now I want to play 2 & 3 more than ever before I even attempt 4. Because of this sales could possibly suffer for 4 if 2 & 3 aren't released prior if more feel the way I feel. Unpopular opinion:
Metroid Prime 2 was imo the best Metroid game with both Super Metroid and Metroid Prime 1 very close on a 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Don't get me wrong, I love this franchise and especially these 3 games can be considered as some of the best games of all time.
But MP2 did one thing the best of all the Metroid Games: ATMOSPHERE.
I'm a huge fan of great atmosphere in games and MP2 absolutely nailed it.
From the creepy "Aliens" like opening with all the dead space marines all the way to the climatic 3rd battle against Dark Samus while the dark dimension was about to collapse.. The atmosphere was of the charts.
You absolutely dreaded to enter the dark dimension and not only because of the great and creepy atmosphere, but because said atmosphere could actually kill you!
So it started to invoke the feeling of dread and MP2 at some points almost played and felt like a Sci Fi horror game.
Truly a stroke of genius by the developers (although some critics and fans hated the dark dimension)
But every part of it was done to perfection.. The eerie music, extremely though enemies at certain points and the constant danger adding to the horror feel of the game.
And Light Aether wasn't devoid of great atmosphere either btw.
Especially Torvus Bog and Sanctuary Fortress were beautiful and extremely wel made designwise.
Imo its one of the best games ever made and sadly criminally underrated.

It was a good assumption that the game is not coming out based off of the dev’s response. There is clearly a conflict and one of the two must not be telling the truth. Since the dev is a contractor, out of respect, he may not reveal so much info, so he is more bound to secrecy than the other source. Since he has more at risk for possible further contracts, I would assume he is the one that is incorrect and Metroid Prime 2 & 3 are already made.

I highly doubt they'll have time to work on the second and third installment while simultaneously working on Prime 4. So with that said I expect a bundle type treatment or maybe even a preorder bonus with bare minimum done. Remember, Prime Remaster is a Retro Studios project. Nintendo had nothing to do with it other than publishing it.

A couple things to take into account here. First, just because one contractor doesn't have knowledge of Prime 2 and 3 doesn't mean anything at all. Remember, if Nintendo is sitting on the Remasters, it means they were all in development at relatively the same time, meaning that different teams were likely involved. It is pretty much a graphical overhaul, so it doesn't need to be the same team doing it. So long as the general art direction is kept consistent through a project manager, it it likely that many different individuals were contracted out per game.
Now, that being said, it doesn't mean anything positive either. It is also entirely possible that Prime 2 and 3 are 'remastered' as slightly upscaled versions of the original games. It really depends on if Nintendo thinks the Prime games would have enough of an audience to put forth the needed effort. Considering the hype surrounding the Prime games for years now, it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that Nintendo has at least set the groundwork to get proper remasters of 2 and 3.
My belief is that Nintendo has already put together a pseudo-remaster of 2 and 3 and have things waiting in the wings for proper remasters. They were waiting to see how well Prime 1 did and will base their next move off of it. Because it sold so well, I believe it likely that Nintendo may push for 2 and 3 to be done in a similar manner. What's more, because assets can be translated from the new Prime 1 and the basic art direction is already in place, remastering Prime 2 and 3 should be a less intensive endeavor. They could also decide that the hype for Prime 1 is enough to get 2 and 3 to sell even without giving them the full effort... so it's kind of a wash.
Really, there are a lot of variables to take into consideration, especially without knowing when Prime 4 will release or the next system. Nintendo may scrap fully remastering 2 and 3 in order to get them out on the Switch for the end of its cycle and use Prime 4 as the major release for the next console.

    • @madness9651
      @madness9651 Год назад

Naah that'd be stupid. People wouldn't swallow a downgrade after being flashed by Prime 1 remaster. Also the place of straightforward ports is NSO, people would buy even less something that they otherwise would have gotten for "free" eventually.
And I know that they released the Mario collection, but that was a limited time offering to get Sunshine and Galaxy way ahead of schedule.
The N64 is almost finished considering Nintendo does not have the rights to most of their missing games from that era.
So we can predict GameCube to be ahead, as these services always have to serve you something new to keep you subscribed.
      What sounds better:
"Here have Gamecube emulator, but no Metroid Prime 2 because you can buy it for full prize in the store"
      vs
"Here have GameCube emulator, but no Metroid Prime 2 yet because you can buy a shiny remaster for full prize in the store"

My theory is that Retro made the Metroid Prime remaster years ago and it’s the reason why the Namco version of Prime 4 was cancelled (because Retro’s remaster was better than Namco’s 4). They were probably planning on doing all three originally, but 2 and 3 were cancelled so they could focus on 4.
I think it’s unlikely we’ll ever see remasters of 2 and 3 unless those are picked up after Prime 4 as a separate project. And honestly, the Metroid series is probably better off that way. Prime 1 has gotten a lot of positive buzz, why risk people getting bored of it with two more huge games before the big one drops?

During the announcement of Metroid Prime Remastered, in the trailer at the beginning, its says: Countdown to reentry... They probably talk about the first game, but we can assume they talk about the countdown to reentry into the story of Metroid Prime, since the 4 is in dev. Each project is probably kept secret. Its safe to assume that if the guy is a contractor for Metroid Prime Remastered, Retro Studio and Nintendo have probably different teams to work for the second and the third and different contractor to be more efficient and quick.
