Macomb is actually a really nice, safe small town and the real estate prices are insanely low (mainly because of the geographic isolation, it's an hour's drive to the next town of any size.) It's a great place to live, especially if you have kids.
Thanks for the tour. My mom lived there and my grandparents had a jewelry store in the downtown square. My parents were married at a church near downtown. I remember Macomb fondly.
Spent 4 years in Macomb at WIU earning my BS in Agriculture. 1980-1984. Affordable, quality education; lots of extracurricular activities/sports and lots of partying. Best of times! Saw a lot of great rock bands and entertainers. Bob Newhart. Bob Hope came for football; hosted by the Cherry Blossoms vets group) Spent many nights downtown on the square at The Moon, The Ritz, The Rainbow Riders Saloon (Ron Kimbro, Lonny Ratliff, Tom Parker, Eddie Burell, Gordy ??, Craig Stahl). Ken Carlisle & Cadillac Cowboys, Pork & the Havana Ducks. South of there at Tom Carpers bar rocking/dancing to live music. Parties/live music outside of town and dancing. Row Boat restaurant for HUGE burgers and the Pace Hotel (Red Skelton bought a round after his show). Lamoine Hotel lobby for good cheap breakfast. Aurelio's Italian Café after getting off the Illinois Zephyr (South bound) Sunday nights. Landmark lounge East of town for Country Western Music. Even the American Legion had good times back then.
My youngest son and his best friend just moved here for a job. There apartment is near the college and they will be enrolling for classes come the fall, part time while working . I cant wait to visit . It reminds me a lot of the rural community we are from
My family lives buy the tower so cool just here visiting cute Lil town but I'm from Chicago city boy can't wait to get home I want to walk to a corner store
