Yup learned my lesson with exaid, I pretty much said "wow Kamen rider has gone downhill" when it came out and I ate my words cuz it has become my favorite series in the franchise. I will never judge ever again 😂 and same with gavv rn I was like ??? At the design but I gave it a chance and so far ep2 and it's pretty good

When KR came back from a long hiatus, they decided to reinvent themselves for the new generations... and they haven't stopped since. Honestly, Gavv is a good spot to jump in if you've been enjoying Sentai. The writer for this show is a Sentai veteran with a lot of her seasons being well received. With some experience writing some parts of Kamen Rider.

I'm more of a Sentai guy, but I know that Ichigo was a pretty skilled dude that was captured by Shocker and turned into a cyborg with grasshopper powers, and all the monsters of the week are the same but with other animals. Gavv is half granute half human, making him technically a cyborg. And apparently the monsters of the week are full granutes. The Gochizos are like blood cells. They are born, they serve their purpose and then they die. The moment blood cells deviate from their purpose in order to survive, they become cancer cells. And the dark snacks will have the same theme here I believe.

Tokusatsu (that includes super sentai, ultraman, metal heroes, kamen riders, kaiju movies etc.) are divided in 3 eras: showa (1926 to 1989), heisei era (1989 to 2019) and the reiwa era (2019 to today). The original kamen rider debuted on the showa era and they normally have one base form (with some cases like strong that have one extra form) and BlackRx (3 forms aside from the base form) Up to the start the heisei era the riders could had one to 3 variant forms, on the second half of the heisei era the riders start to develop even more forms. And up to the reiwa era they have at least 10 diferent forms. The rider forms today can be divided in: -base form (kamen rider initial form) -combined alternative form (when they use the gimmick of season to recieve other kind of arms, depending on the rider they can have 5 to 10 alternative modes) -upgrade form (first major upgrade from the basic form) -berseker/incomplete super form (an kind of upgrade form that could hurt the rider and his allies) -super form (second major upgrade on the basic form) -final form: the most powerful version that rider can get, some even with god like powers

Zi-O was the first Kamen rider show I attempted to watch by Sougo wasn't doing it for me, then I tried Zero One but covid hit so the show took a mini hiatus and I lost interest after that. Gavv first ep really impressed me esp with how colorful everything is (like you guys mentioned) the fight scenes were amazing, and I really like Shoma as a character so far. Going from Power Rangers & Super Sentai to Kamen Rider was such a huge difference for me. My first Kamen Rider season, after getting caught up with Power Rangers, was Kamen Rider Build, and Build blew me away on its storytelling and characters in comparison to what I seen in Power Rangers and even Super Sentai. Still my favorite Kamen Rider season so far among those I watched so far.

KR may be silly, but the story the shows tell can get darker than any SS/PR. More than one KR show starts with lighthearted tone and get grimmer and serious the further it goes. It also depends on what story they want to tell and the Theme too. Some shows are mostly lighthearted with some serious moments throughout, while others are more serious from the get go. Gavv, I bet is going the Gaim and Build route. Silly and slice of life comedy focus at the beggining to then hit with some serious sh*t. Specially for its concept being "Aliens that devour Human happines" and our MC being half those monsters. Here in Gavv, Granutes may not be human, but it still kinda reminded me to OOO and its concept of "Human Greed" the bad guys would use People's desire and twist them for the worst to get, in OOO's case, Medals. Up to the start the heisei era the riders could had one to 3 variant forms, on the second half of the heisei era the riders start to develop even more forms.
And up to the reiwa era they have at least 10 diferent forms.
The rider forms today can be divided in:
-base form (kamen rider initial form)
-combined alternative form (when they use the gimmick of season to recieve other kind of arms, depending on the rider they can have 5 to 10 alternative modes)
-upgrade form (first major upgrade from the basic form)
-berseker/incomplete super form (an kind of upgrade form that could hurt the rider and his allies)
-super form (second major upgrade on the basic form)
-final form: the most powerful version that rider can get, some even with god like powers
Been loving your guys reaction to BoonBoomger and excited to see you react to Gavv as well! I think Gavv will be the first Kamen rider show I'll be watching weekly while it's airing. Zi-O was the first Kamen rider show I attempted to watch by Sougo wasn't doing it for me, then I tried Zero One but covid hit so the show took a mini hiatus and I lost interest after that. Gavv first ep really impressed me esp with how colorful everything is (like you guys mentioned) the fight scenes were amazing, and I really like Shoma as a character so far. I think he's the first main rider I've seen to have ptsd right off the bat and I think that sets up his character very well. His little "minions" are called gochizo and I think they're cutest little gimmicks I've ever seen! I'm excited to start the same Kamen rider journey with you guys! Can't wait for ep 2!! One thing I can say about rider is don’t let the fun parts fool you there have been riders with a fun tone that ended up being one of the darkest seasons ever.

Going from Power Rangers & Super Sentai to Kamen Rider was such a huge difference for me. My first Kamen Rider season, after getting caught up with Power Rangers, was Kamen Rider Build, and Build blew me away on its storytelling and characters in comparison to what I seen in Power Rangers and even Super Sentai. Still my favorite Kamen Rider season so far among those I watched so far.

KR may be silly, but the story the shows tell can get darker than any SS/PR. More than one KR show starts with lighthearted tone and get grimmer and serious the further it goes.
It also depends on what story they want to tell and the Theme too. Some shows are mostly lighthearted with some serious moments throughout, while others are more serious from the get go.
Gavv, I bet is going the Gaim and Build route. Silly and slice of life comedy focus at the beggining to then hit with some serious sh*t. Specially for its concept being "Aliens that devour Human happines" and our MC being half those monsters.
Here in Gavv, Granutes may not be human, but it still kinda reminded me to OOO and its concept of "Human Greed" the bad guys would use People's desire and twist them for the worst to get, in OOO's case, Medals. Here is the Gummies taken from Human Happines.
