The main problem with Aylesbury is the traffic and the road works, HS2 and the never ending expansion of the town have caused chaos over the last few years my 15 minute commute can take over an hour when they block all three routes out to the south. The town centre has been amazoned out like most town centres and we now have barbers, coffee shops and restaurants in place of shops ,M&S and Smiths are about the only shops left from the 1970’s in the high street . Personally I find living in Aylesbury frustrating more than unpleasant that is much the same as a lot of towns in this area.
Rated the worst due to a Facebook group campaign which sabotaged the vote on some silly website, the year after it was voted in the top 3 best places to live. I moved to Aylesbury from West London, I was able to own my own home, lovely walks in the countryside with my kids and only 40 mins from my work in London. Thanks for your video was a great watch.
I don't know how it got that reputation but I've lived here for over 10 years and I love it here. 😊 I live in one of the most beautiful areas.. Watermead. ❤ We have two little lakes with lots of wildlife and a great pub. People are friendly and I used the buses for a year and thought they run very well. The only thing I would say is that the traffic can get bad because of all the roadworks/ HS2 building but other than that, I have no intention of going elsewhere. 😊 Thanks for visiting our town, I'm pleased you were pleasantly surprised. 😊
It's always interesting to see outsiders give their honest opinions of the town. It's difficult for me to be objective because I was born in Aylesbury and have live there all my life. I've seen a lot of changes since the 1970s. Things really changed in 1960s when the town was modernised. Huge areas of historic buildings and streets were swept away leaving the small area around the church which you visited. More housing estates were built which increased the population leading to more traffic. As someone who doesn't drive I can only imagine how bad it is to drive around the town. It really isn't planned very well at all. With just one road closure the whole town is gridlocked. Aylesbury is a nice town although there is not much to do with regards to entertainment or shopping. There are retail parks but they are spread apart from each other. Thanks for visiting and being so positive.
I live in Aylesbury - thanks so much for your positivity we love it! It’s great for the kids and for the most part the people are really nice and lovely and there is lots to do! The town has changed a lot in the last 5-10 years, in terms of development and people moving in, and I find a lot of negativity is from people who have lived here before that don’t like the change! Of course there is positive and negative everywhere but it doesn’t deserve the constant bad comments!
@@sassythesasquatch4425Huddersfield, Wolverhampton, Rotherham, Coventry, Jaywick, a lot of Merseyside, Hemel, loads of the London boroughs…the list goes on
The people of Aylesbury are not the problem. Aylesbury town council are not the problem. Buckinghashire county council are at complete fault for the failure of our town. They have their priorities all wrong. They put profits above people. Claims to fame above usable resources and prioritise duplicated mega stores over enabling small businesses to thrive and bring life back to our town. In 5 years time we'll have nothing left but housing and offices, we don't currently have the infrastructure, doctors, dentists or schools to facilitate the people we already have let alone to cover the households they're adding to the area.

Don't know if you know the band Marillion, but they have links to Aylesbury. Aylesbury is on the doorstep of the Chilterns, an area of outstading beauty. Ok much of it is farm fields and privately owned woodland but some is still accessible. 50 minutes from Marylebone, 25 minutes from Milton Keynes, oxford and high Wycombe so plenty of employment opportunities. Negative include HS2 is a pain in the arse but thatll be finished before the end of the century, maybe and Aylesbury is possibly the uk centre for money laundering barbers.
No, that's not true I am afraid. Bernard made that up so it was easier for his characters to travel between Winchester and Aylesbury than to Tamworth, which was the capital of Mercia.
Aylesbury is a decent town. Not small, probably 80,000 population. Very safe compared to other places. I regularly walk from the train station to Watermead (25 mins walk) and never felt unsafe. High street has lost shops but most towns in UK have. Lots of harmony too- the EDL visited once & people united against. Lots of people on a Facebook group encouraged people to vote hence why it appeared in the poll. All major shops here. Turkish, Italian, Indian, Afghan, Chinese Restaurants here, cinema, theatre, tennis club, cricket club. Countryside 5 mins away
Aylesbury is a nice town with decent people. Its only issue is it can get incredibly boring. Crime rates below average but higher than Wycombes surprisingly. You only really saw the town center. Theres all of Cambridge street retail park, Gatehouse with the large Sainsburys and some nice pubs and resturants on the way to Berryfields and Watermead. Next time you come down will have to show you outside of the town center.
used to live there. some parts are dodgy and there are dodgy people there for sure but overall i can count on 1 hand how many times i have felt unsafe. i liked living there overall.
I lived in Aylesbury for 3 years and found it to be a soul destroying place with awful traffic, awful people and rubbish shops. Very boring town. Milton Keynes just down the road is so much better.
The traffic is an issue but the place is the safest I’ve ever lived and don’t see anything wrong with it. Try living in high Wycombe, Hayes or up north then you will soon change your mind
Moved to Aylesbury 5 years ago. Spent 2.5 years there and couldn't wait to get away. So many ignorant people, a complete lack of cultural integration. The trafic situation is diabolical. Full of junkies and alcoholics. I'm not saying its worse than everywhere else but it's just a grim, grey concrete stain on the map. I do like to visit once every few months just to remind myself how good it feels to hit the a41 out of there
You should say that it's been ranked 5th because of the rent prices... it's same as London but it's not London... not much crime and not many dr dlrs. It's not for cheapskates. Remember the rating comes from a poll run by someone who lives jn a Rival town on Aylesburyys doorstep called High Wycombe.
