How much strength do they need to shine? For example,my yamaha as3200(2x150w/4ohms) interg.amp do you think could drive them? I really like this speaker aestheticaly,it's great Thank you
Those are fantastic, but I simply can not afford them. I had to go with the Rubicons. I don't regret it. I listened to many other speakers e.g. BW, Focal, KEF etc. But I love Dali.
Thanks for the review, they look awesome. I’m considering these for stereo listening. What kind of music do you listen to? Have you added a sub, if so views please. Or maybe replaced since making this video given it’s 4 years old. Cheers
Lovely speakers, thanks for sharing your experience with them. I have heard cheaper Dali's on dem at various places, but never heard any Opticons. Thanks again !!!
Fantastic, I am sure you will love them, what finish did you choose? It sounds like you have great taste in kit, as I have always highly ratred the Luxman units. Let me know how you get on with them.
@@ewanthifiandhomecinema7505 I ordered them in black finish. From Luxman I ordered the Luxman L509X amplifier, EQ500 Tube Phone Stage and PD151 Turntable. I took the same setup as in this video: ruclips.net/video/d1I2pzUui8E/видео.html . The gear will arrive around september.
The first one to watch :D I can't believe it. Nice video. I've ordered Yamaha AS3000 for my Opticons 6 :D I listened to Yamaha and prefer it much more over Caspian. Now speakers are next when I find the one worth upgrading to :D
Great! Thanks for your continued support. The Yamaha is very clean and sounds fantastic. I'm sure you will enjoy it for ages to come. If you like the Dali sound have a look at the Rubicon 6s, the Epicons are fantastic too if they are within your budget. Alternatively, a switch from Dali, you may want to look at the Monitor Audio gold series, the Focal Arias 926/948s or even some of the Kef reference speakers. Thanks for the comment
@@ewanthifiandhomecinema7505 No worries, I already got Opticons 6 ( for last 3 months) so will stick to them for next few months/maybe years. Just until I save up for something worth upgrading to. I think videos explaining technologies such as XLR vs RCA, cheap vs expensive speaker cable, copper vs silver and so on would benefit your channel. By the way, keep up the good work! P.S. When I lifted AS3000 I couldn't believe how heavy it was (54 pounds).
Thank's ... Well...let me give you a little advice. I been an Audiophile for more than 25 years, and I work in the business of hi-fi here in Denmark. Newer in my years have i heard a speaker react like the way dali's react when they play with Ansuz speakercables. .. Ansuz is a Danish brand, and the magic those cables do together with the Epicon series are truly astonishing compared anything i ever heard. There is som kind of special synergy between those brands. .. The Epicons opens up completly and shows them selves from a completly other side. . I really newer heard anything match so perfect. . The only downside is that Ansuz cables are rather expensive...But even their entry level cables are true magic with Epicons. Morning, do you still have the Epicons as Im looking to buy them, yet struggling to decide if they will be a worthy upgrade over my Opticon 6 (not sure if the £850 I spend on the new Opticon 6 from RS could be beaten without breaking a bank). I'm looking for an end game ideally sound wise and looks. Or perhaps you have upgraded? Hope you had a nice Christmas and Happy New Year despite the current circumstance!
Hi Szymon, I had a nice Christmas thanks, I hope you did too. I kept my Epicons for about a year, and completely loved them. However, I like to change my speakers every year so that I can test a range of manufactures and models. I am currently using a pair of B&W 705 S2s which are great, but not a patch on those Epicons. I couldn't stress enough how great those Epicons are, I have yet to hear anything that comes close under £8k. You got those Opticons for a fantastic price, but if you can afford it I am sure you will notice a huge improvement by getting yourself the epcions. The epcion bookshelf speakers sound like floorstanders, they have so much power and such a huge soundstage. Let me know what you decide. All the best
Dali menuets are great for their size and price range. I would strongly advise a subwoofer with them as they are only small units. The Epicons are Dalis top of the range speakers retailing at £5k for the bookshelves, so they are significantly better than the menuets, but also significantly more
@@ewanthifiandhomecinema7505 Thanks. So because I have a small room I will have to pick from the smaller pairs.. Di u know which of the minis are the flagship?
@@AromaFrank are you looking at just Dali or other brands. The smallest flagship Dali bookshelves will be the rubicons or menuets depending upon how small you want to go and sound quality.
@@ewanthifiandhomecinema7505 It doesn’t have to be Dali, but I heard good things about the Menuet SE. Thanks for ur help. My room is about 8x8, the speakers will be placed close to wall and my main focus is sound quality and tonality.
I love reviews from consumer prospective as sometimes HIFI magazines can be biased. Do you still own Epicon 2? If so do you still enjoy them as I'm looking to purchase Epicon 6 or 2 but not sure if they would be good enough of an upgrade from my Opticon 2.
Yeah hifi magazines can be very bias. Often, they get cushy deals with manufacturers, or there's political agendas regarding who gets to review stuff first. For example, have you ever seen a really bad review? They always seem to be positive. I think they are fantastic. A lot of top end detail but also a fantastic soundstage and bass response. Arguably there could be slightly more mid range. The build build quality is fantastic and in a medium sized room they sound almost like they are floorstanders. They are quite easy to pair (not fussy with certain amplifiers). They have a fairly wide soundstage but there is still a bass role-off when you move off centre. They need a fair bit of room to breathe, roughly 35-50 cm at least out from a wall.
Hi Ewan, do you know if Dali will launch a new flagship bookshelf speaker anytime soon or an ugraded Epicon series? I believe the Epicons have been around 9 years plus. Thanks
I have personally used all the speakers in the Rubicon range extensively all but the wirless ones. The Rubicon 2Cs use the same wireless technology as the Callistos, however you do benefit from a much higher end speaker. Have a read of this article I found for you, it comes to the conclusion that the Rubicons do offer better value for money than the Castillos, even considering their much higher price. Ewan Thomas I included my kit list in the above post. I use Nad electronics they do sound great but you can buy better. I will upgrade to a five channel ATI 6005 Morris Kessler signature series power amp at some point. It was recommended to me as being the best match for the Epicons I will have to start saving it costs around £5/6,000
?...I went from Dali Rubicon 2 to the Rubicon 6 BE...the rubicon 2 was better of those in my opinion...wider open sound stage...I'm thinking the epicon 2 may not be much better than the rubicon 2???
I use Chord Epic Twin cable now. Just below that is the Shawline X also from Chord. However, Chord also make some brilliant Epic Reference and Signature cables.
