I've had a pair of "cheap" Oberon 5 floorstanders since 2019 and I love them to bits. I can only imagine how delightful an experience it must be to listen to music on these Rubikores.
I love Oberon, you get a big taste of Dali sound for good value. Opticon are better performers still, but I would personally save up and jump up to Rubikore over the former. I've spent good time on Rubicon, and heard Rubikore (bookshelves) today and was wholly impressed with the upgrade. Looking forward to time with Rubikore 6, which are coming soon! 😊
@@erics.4113 my Oberon 5 cost 800€ and five years later they're still a gift that keeps on giving. I drive them with a Rega Elex-R and the sound is a delight.
Another great review that can best summed up as a verbal ballet. I find the picture he's able to paint in my head with his review so detailed from his choice of words amazing. Well done!
Rubicore 8’s running through Denafrips Iris 12 + Ares 12 and Yamaha AS2200, about 30hrs into the recommended 100hr burn in and they sound amazing, particularly the high end detail. They started off a bit analytical and busy, but have softened into silky smooth, slightly warm sounding speakers, and the bass is starting to flesh out. They have a very enveloping immersive sound. It is nice to let the Yamaha stretch its legs as it tends to blow the socks off most speakers.
Very good review. I recognize a lot of the things you've said about those speakers. As you mentioned, Dali often pairs their speakers with NAD or lyngdorf amps on demos, that's also what I've listened too, and I am very impressed. I have the NAD C658 C298 combination with Oberon 7's. I've always enjoyed the warm character of this entry level hifi speaker. And in my journey, looking for a speaker upgrade I've previously stumbled upon some challenges. Before Rubikore came out, strong contenders for a speaker upgrade were Dali Rubicon 6 or the Epicon 6. I've even checked out B&W 702 S3 and the 804 D4. I've paired all of these speakers with my amp combination, and allthough all of them are fantastic speakers, none of them felt like a good fit for me. Rubicon 6: Loved the impressive control over the dynamic range of the music, but the bass lacked warmth, the punch of a bass drum, whether acoustic or electronic music, came with too much mid, and allthough the low end of the bass was clear and detailed, it just wasn't my taste when it came to balance between these layers. Epicon 6: Incredible clarity, but overall, lacking warmth. I started to question if improved clarity would always come at the price of sacrificing 'warmth' B&W 702 S3: I don't think the amps that I have are a good match with these speakers. The clarity and lack of distortion outperformed the rubicons, but, I love a broad soundstage and with the B&W"s I felt they shoot the sound straight through the middle. I no longer felt the size of the environment where the music was recorded. Rubicon and Epicon do a much better job at that. B&W 804 D4: Incredible detail, clarity, control, balance (my kind of warmth in the music), stereo imaging. In all aspects unbelieveable performance, yet, this impressive control over every single detail in the music, to my taste, appears to eliminate something from the music, the emotional or exciting aspect of the music disappears, due to the extreme analytical nature of this speaker. A bass drop after a buildup in an electronic song, the first note of an impressive guitar solo, usually these moments in music are an awe inspiring moment, but the B&W presents it with such a level of control, that those emotional peaks just flatten. Maybe I just need imperfection to some extend, to maintain joy in music. Last tuesday I went to check out the rubikore 6. This speaker, to my taste, tackles all the problems I had with the other speakers. So far, I've had the most joy listening to the Rubikore, than any other speaker. I've done a direct comparison with the epicon 6, and I just have more joy listening to the rubikore. And in the end, no matter the technical aspects, price range or objective superiority, the only thing that truly matters is if you find joy in listening to a speaker. And to me, the Rubikore feels like the speaker I'm going to experience an overwhelming amount of joy with. Unless I somehow come up with a budget for the Epikore 11, I checked those out too. I don't know how to review that other than: wow! With a massive sweetspot and a stereo image beyond imagination, they sound like a front row seat at any concert.
I had the exact experience at the HiFi Klubben. Endgame speakers exist for those who can shell out 5000 euros (VAT included). They charge $9000 for these after tax in the USA !!!
I have Dali Epicon 2s connected to Rotel RC/RB-1590, 350W into 8ohm pre/power combo and Rotel RCD-1572 MKII CD player. The sound, to my ears is high end. Dynamics, detail, bass all satisfactory. Not having the time and patience for listening before purchase, I'd checked out the reviews in all languages available before buying. They all classed it as all round high end speakers on the lower scale of high end class, comfortable with all types of music.
stunning..! I'm still using a 15 year old pair of dali suite 2.8 which i bought new from sevenoaks, they had a batch that were reduced to £395 from something close to £1k...still sound great to me!

I have a story for you. I have the Epcon 2 Stan mount I really do love them connected to Macintosh equipment when I connected a Sonos $600 amplifier class D over 200 W in 4 ome load the speakers came to life like I never heard before which was really shocking to me considering they’re hooked up to an $8000 system. I guess the right synergy and class D did something very magical to them.
Great review as always, thank you Tarun. I recently bought my new pair of Dali Rubicon 2 and I can't be more happy with this purchase. Coming from my previous pair of Q-Acoustics 3030i that was a significant step forward in sound quality. I have them paired with my MF M6si, an Eversolo DMP-A6 as a streamer transport, the Denon DCD-900NE as a CD transport and this two connected to my Denafrips Ares 12th-1, that I bought after your review of this awesome DAC. This is my system now and I'm very happy with all this gear and enjoy too much every day :). Cheers!
i continue to enjoy the presentation style of your videos . very comprehensive and delivered in a calm lucid manner . i've asked this before and i'm still hoping that you might one day review the SPL German made amp/s , the 800 model in particular . as ikve stated before i'm a sucker for labels like ' Made in Germany ' or Made in the UK ,japan etc. there's generally an attention to detail and build quality that comes with speakers and gear that are actually made in the country they were designed in .
i sent you two distributors in Ireland but the post didn't show up for some reason . you can access their website by googling SPL Audio -germany . i would post the website but i think links aren't allowed? thanks
I own Oberon 5's and spektor 2's. I recently bought the cambridge cxa81 mk2 for the 5's and I am very happy with this setup! Great composition, very musical, with a sweet touch of warmth but at the same time transparent with a wide soundstage and full fast bass for the size!! Spektors are in my office with my vintage marantz pm410, very happy with this set as well. I doubt I can find any speakers as good at this price for my taste! Love em both, especially Oberon 5's! Keep up the excellent work!
My main speakers are the Rubicon 6s - I love them and I can imagine it'll be a long while before I start getting that itch to upgrade them (famous last words!). Great review, and love the channel 👍
@@beastemall Right now I've got a Marantz PM-12 SE. I got it super-discounted by trading in some stuff, and I do like it. But I don't think it's the BEST match I could get. I'm not in the market for a replacement/upgrade at the moment, but I think I will be before too long.
I've been a happy owner of the Rubicon 6 for a number of years now. The thing I like about them is that I can throw any genre of music at them and they make it pleasant to listen to. Other speakers I tried had less consistency across genres
I own the Dali Oberon 3’s… also connected with their smaller sub for 2.1. And when set up right and often than not with the grilles on as suggested by Dali… I have to say I love it and it’s sound. And I think at their price range they are superb. Great brand
Ur voice would be perfect for audiobooks. Great quality video as always! Always loved dali, got a pair of alteco c1 for atmos and the opticion 2 mk2 as front, deep bass and amazing clarity !
Thanks for your honest Review! I've similar experience. Also with the older Dalis are not my signature too relaxed, even the Epicon 8 in comparison to ELAC Concentros or Dynaudio Conifdence in my Tests some years ago. The new ones are bit better, but for very specific audience, as with many other speakers like B&W, Focal or Sonus Faber 😊
Great review as always, Tarun. I love your thourough, objective process. No matter what you review, I always seem to end up learning something new. I’ve had a pair of Dali Opticon 6’s for 3 years now, which are essentially the same setup as the Rubikore’s, just a step down in their lineup, and I absolutely love them. So I was surprised to hear your comments on how they were lacking in several areas compared to other speakers, since I don’t experience these shortcomings with mine. Then I heard you talk about the amplifier pairing and it made more sense as I have mine hooked up to an NAD M10. Now, I’ve not heard any of the other speakers you mentioned, so I can’t say whether or not powering the Rubikores with an NAD amp would bring them on par with the other speakers. But it does speak to how important it is when selecting separates to try out different pairings as that could be the difference that leads you to something you love. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
I had a pair of Oberon 7 paired with a Yamaha AS501 and Rotel 1592 MK2. For the price, these speakers are great sounding, and I can’t imagine the higher end models. In terms of amp, the Rotel was meatier, more consistent detail, and less muddy bass compared to the Yamaha. Now I’ve been listening to music for most of my entire life. I’m also a musician playing piano and guitar, and also sang in choir for years. I may not have the ear of a mastering engineer, but I know what I like and Dali speakers are definitely great speakers.
Great review - I want to upgrade my Opticon LCR to the new Rubikore On-Wall - they are the same price as the rubicon LCR. The Rubikore LCR looks like an awesome speaker for home cinema.
I am currently running Opticon 6 MKIIs with an Audiolab 9000a/CDT combo. Truly a marriage made in heaven. That having been said I've just ordered a pair of Rubikore 6s. Whilst I do find Dali's easy to place, I did find the Opticons need a 50hr+ running in time to REALLY get the bass working hard..... even after 150hrs+ they just got better and better. The bass just got deeper without losing tightness at all. I'm going to assume the Rubikores will be the same.
Great review as usual Tarun. Got to be one of the best reviewers on YT. Whist the Rubikore is an upgrade to the Rubicon its not in the same class as the Epicon 2s you previously review. The Epicon 6 (& 8s) would be a more suitable comparison, albeit about double the price (& worth ever penny). As for what you referred to as a polite sound this is not a fault, it was part of the design objective and is intended to sound more musical without fatigue. Plenty of that kind of speakers available if that's what you want.
Unfortunately Ikon 6 (MK2 at least) have quite uneven frequency response. I had to ask engineer to make better filter and crossovers and these loudspeakers now sound much much better.
Thanks for another very thorough and thoughtful review of a speaker that’s new to me. To answer question I would say SVS. I auditioned their Prime Pinnacle towers and though they were competitive for the price of under $1800 US I returned them (SVS has an excellent buy and try policy and outstanding customer service). However I have a pair of SVS SB1000 Pro subs and I love them in my 2.2 channel Music only system. Rock on!
Love your reviews, I went to Atoll after your reviews, was considering before Naim’s SN3, glad did not go that route. Now I am looking on a pair of Rel S510, final step on hi-fi journey.
I’ve had two sets of DALI speakers. The first was the Dali Concept 6, but at the time, I didn’t know much about things like soundstage or speaker placement, so I didn’t get the most out of them. I eventually moved on to the Q Acoustics 3050, which really kicked off my hi-fi journey. I also have a pair of Dali Spector 2s that I picked up for £44 used. They’re great with acoustic guitar and instrumental tracks, delivering solid bass for their size and a surprisingly open soundstage. I mostly bring them out for fun and testing when I get new gear.
Great review, Tarun. Like you I’m a fan of Monitor Audio and there are certain speakers that have worked wonderfully well in my listening rooms. Speaking of listening rooms, I’ve had a lot of fun swapping and changing models over the last few years and certain ones have caused real issues in my small room. I think that’s entirely down to the room and not the model of speaker. My small room has caused so many issues I felt it was necessary to change to an entirely different format which MA didn’t have. Specifically, I was looking for a highly resolving compact floorstander and as you know, the Neat Elite is my weapon of choice. Cheers until Sunday.
I love speakers with AMT ribbon tweeters, I have the GoldenEar BRX, and a 3rd speaker as my center speaker for the mixed use home theater/music system source=Apple Music lossless quality
I look forward to your reviews, you give such quietly well reasoned and knowledgable insight into the world of music reproduction. Would it be possible sometime to audition a pre and power amplifier from Audion? They are similar in a way to Audionote.
Thank you Tarun for an as usual great review. Out of curiosity you seem to be blessed with an enviable ceiling height in your listening space ie more than the usual 8 foot height most of us afflicted struggle with? ☺️ Best Peter
I own an Audiolab 9000CDT, which I love, but found out that the MDAC + fell well short of the performance of Chord DACs, first the Qutest and now my endgame Hugo TT2/ M Scalar combination. Thank goodness for the second hand market!
Great review as always. Are the Epos ES-14N’s on your radar for a review? Would like to hear your thoughts on these, more expensive speakers, compared to the Quad Revela 1’s.
@@abritishaudiophile7314 yes, not the original company, but perhaps improved by Mr. Fink? Had some old very reasonably priced, within my limited budget, Epos speakers some time ago and thought they were very good, before I broke them.☹️
To my tastes, Dynaudio are the standout loudspeaker brand (midbass dynamics, natural engaging mids, clear but smooth tweeter). Within their present range the Evoke 10 (smaller and better controlled midbass driver than Evoke 20) and Contour 20i (no slight upper mid tilt like Confidence 20) are the stand outs.
Having owned several Dali speakers over the years, this sound very much like the house sound for Dali mid sized floor standers. This goes all the Way back to the 90’ties. I am now on System Audio Pandion 30, which has a more lively sound overall and a lot of punch in the bass region
Listened to the Rubikore 6 at the HiFi Klubben. Endgame speakers. They have ribbon and cone tweeters simultaneously. Fleur East’s dynamically crushed songs opened up and sang on these speakers. Fantastic midrange, fast and tight bottom end. They did everything right with a 1500 and a 2000 euro amp. The problem is endgame speakers all seem to be universally priced at 5000 euros. Once you heard the Rubikore, mid-priced ones sound like a waste of money. So. I’ll stick to my low priced Dynaudios.
At the End i had to decide between these dali Rubicore 6 and Canton Reference 7k which were at almost the same Price point, as the Cantons were replaced lately with their new Series Reference 5. And i finaly opted for the Cantons, but did like the Dali very much.
Great review! Given your preferences and your proximity to Spendor’s home market, you should track down a pair of old SP9/1 loudspeakers. They only made a total of about 500 pairs. Note its unusual crossover points for a three-way; 600 & 4,000. And prepare to be single again as they are monsters and will undoubtedly fail wife factor approval.
Loved my Naim Supernait 2 which injected the excitement back into a slightly pipe n' slippers system I was looking for. Unfortunately stepping up to a 250DR power amp and especially 282 pre-amp made the level of detail so forensic as to be bright and fatiguing. B&W 800 series speakers with their diamond tweeters may have contributed and I ultimately moved to McIntosh amplification which offers much better synergy (although the system is now highly revealing of recordings and their differences, both good and bad). Would like to see you cover something along the lines of getting the best from your system through mains filters and isolation products. Russ Andrews?
Im very close to buying Rubikore (but 8) as an upgrade my Opticon 6 - they sound great with Cambridge Audio CXA 81. However, I would really want to hear about Russel K 120 as alternative - hope to see your review about Russel K speakers.
I don't know if you would anwer this question but I'll go ahead and ask😊; I noticed there is an Iris DDC in your system. Is it reclocking and cleaning the signal from the Auralic for the Venus? Consideeing the Iris has the same clock as the Venus2 has, does it make the Venus2 sound any better? It's kind of spooky that for the last couple of days I have been thinking whether I should add the Iris DDC between my Eversolo DMP-A6 and Venus2 12th DAC. Take care and thank you for the very informative and to the point videos you've been producing. I don't miss an episode.
@@selo8050 thank you. The Iris does improve the sound marginally over running signal straight to the Venus. This is despite them having the same clocking mechanism. I guess that separating out reclocking and conversions duties, each feed by totally independent power supplies, is the reason for the improvement 😊
Thank you for a detailed and informative review, I enjoyed watching. Question if I may? When are you going to join the analogue world? Personally I can’t stand the digital sound, either CD or streaming, of which I now do neither. A well engineered turntable with a decent cartridge will change your life, why not try it.
I have a pair of Wharfedale Linton speakers. Very nice is their ability to listen to for hours without fatigue, and bass is good, but they could be more detailed in the highs. Would these DALIs be a good consideration to upgrade? . Funny: when the amplifier matching part of the video began I thought about maybe the Yamaha r-n2000a network receiver as a successor to my Denon PMA-1060 of the 1990s, then you came up with... a Yamaha a-s1200 amplifier
I have a Yamaha AS2200 and have just sold my pair of Linton’s. My 5 cents is that the tone of the Rubikores is very similar to the Lintons (the Lintons have a slightly fuller lower midrange/upper bass), but the detail of the Rubikores are insane.
Hi. Thanks. I enjoy your reviews 🙂 I have a pair of Dali ikon 6s, which I’ve had for 15 odd years. I’ve always really enjoyed them. I thought it was time for an upgrade so bought a pair of ex display Kef r7’s. I fully expected a huge improvement but they, when compared against each other, didn’t sound as good. It made me realise how good the ikons are and kind of fell in love with them all over again. Also made me question the notion that speakers are the most important part of the system. My streamer and amp add up to about £4000 worth of kit. I think an upgrade in amplification would bring out even more of these speakers. I kind of feel weird preferring a pair of 15 year old £900 speakers to modern £2700 speakers.
i was at an audioshow yesterday. one room had Hegel monoblocks with Kef Blade One Meta plus 4 subwoofers. I believe 2 subwoofers were to cancel out standing waves. It did not sound good at all. Another room had Hegel 190 with Kef R3 meta, which was a very good sounding system. But most impressed I was with Dali Rubikon 8 and Dali epikore. They played with NAD and their demo was excellent, the sound very impressive!
I've had my B&W 802D2 since they came out and they've always sounded too bright (on a Marantz 8805 - yes I also watch movies, sorry), to the point where I considered selling them. That was until I bought a SMSL VMV 1Dse DAC a couple of years ago - it changed the speakers completely. Today the AVR + DAC has been replaced with an Arcam AV41 and they sound even better, glad I kept them...
I can't say I've owned many pieces of kit from the same manufacturer, but I do have a pair of Quad S2 for my nearfield system in the study and a pair of Quad Revela 1 for occasional use in my main system in the lounge. Needless the say, the Revela 1 sound considerably better to my ears, but bearing in mind the around 3x price differential, I think highly of both. I did have a pair of Dali Menuet SE, but I somehow never really got to connect with them and eventually part exchanged them for the Revela 1. I bought the SEs for £999 in a sale and got a £729 credit, so a reasonable deal I thought. But you know what? IMHO the best speakers I have are my homebuilt Open Baffle clones. I won't bang on about them as I've been interminably asking you to review O/B speakers for a while now...😉
There's been a lot of chat on the forums comparing these to the Epicon 6. Have you heard them and what did you think in terms of difference? This felt quite a muted review for all the hype about trickle down tech from Kore. Historically people say that Dali floorstanders like power so I was interested that you felt they didn't work with Hegel. I use a powerful pre/power combo from MF with my Epicons which seems to work well. Thanks for the considered and intelligent review Tarun.

@@abritishaudiophile7314 interesting.. I can think of phase issues when you say it can introduce problems. So far did some quick a/b with a high pass set at 20hz with a 48db/octave slope (digital, via minidsp) with the idea to remove the extra strain even though the mains can’t play those frequencies and found the bass response to clean up a tad bit. Could be placebo but thought the logic made sense. Thanks again for your input 🤙🏽🤙🏽

how far away are they placed form each other and from the listening position? i have the dali oberon 7 with a rel ht1003mkii but i am stuggling with positioning...
I have own both Dali Zensor 5 & 7 and compared to Triangle BR08 they are much less defined in the bass region and much more rolled off in the top end. Without an outstanding midrange they sound very polite. Not sure though if its a Dali sound signature in general to be more polite, but for me there is much better value for money out there.
i have dali suties 1.7 se. I share your opinion with them, but they are quite small floorstanders. got them second hand as a try. This review makes me reconsider any thoughts about to step up in Dali speakers....
I had the Epicon 6 and found them to be just too boring. I then discovered the Boenicke W8 and that was a revelation in terms of transparency, tone and speed.

@@Sunshine_Superman you also have to be a bit of a gearhead to become an audiophile. It takes time. Music lovers with money will just visit a store and pick the speaker they like best.
I started to question if improved clarity would always come at the price of sacrificing 'warmth'
B&W 702 S3: I don't think the amps that I have are a good match with these speakers.

@@kkjrees thank you. I do bark to a masters tune but it is my fault. I married her over 20 years ago 🤣 no one else, I am happy to report 🤣
I think the internal build quality and the sound, both are pretty poor for the asking price. My 2000 Euro Klipsch RP-8000F-II both sounds better and are built better. Sure, they dont't have real wood veneer, but whatever.
Lol, they never ever sound better.. i know both speakers and the Dali Blow the Klipsch away. I am no fanboy, i never Had any Dali speakers
Apples to Oranges
@@paulmastermann2200 I heard these exact Dali's today. They really aren't that good. Not much lowend, and pretty hollowed out midrange. The MK2 RP8000F klipsch are MUCH better. Not only that, the internal bracing and general build quality of the Klipsch MK2 is also much better.
@@xaerothehero thats just not true
@@paulmastermann2200 It literally is. Look at the inside pictures of them both. The inside build quality of the Dali's are the bare minimum.
Well I have to say this one did it for me DALI, got to be the worse "pig with Lipstick" speakers I ever heard. Poorly constructed, cheesy parts (crossovers), and steel parts. Boo Hiss...
@@audiononsense1611 really…?
Had Epicon 8 and was quickly exchanging it with ELAC Concentro S507. I have to say, I"m not a big Dali fan, even the Kore I listen some weeks ago was disappointing (not catching my soul at all) in the €90k range. Its my personal opinion, sure others will love their signature, nothing for me... thanks a lot!
@@gerihifi thank you for sharing your experiences 😊
They do a lot of research into 'looks' at D.A.L.I - my homemade loudspeakers look like they were made out of discarded onion crates.
