it's just a fancy name for something that happens in an actual race. to explain it simply, imagine me and you walking in an alley. i'm at front, you'd be like 5 feet away from me. we are walking seemingly same speeds. then there's a corner. i go in first, you go second. your mind predicts that we should still be the same distance at the exit - 5 feet away - because we should slow down the same, and walk away the same method, but when you get out of the corner, suddenly i'm already 7 feet away. kind of like that but with racing.
+Loafchail Bloke actually you miss quoted, he says "I drift not because it is a quicker way around a corner, but it is the most exciting way" the difference here is his car is obviously setup for something else, if you look at the other battles he is not over steering anywhere near as much
Hachi Roku technically it is faster, but in a pseudo drift way. dori dori refers to it as tipping in. he just gets it loose rather than sideways. keeps the front tucked into the corner.
