    *IMPORTANT NOTE:* the developer of the "RBF Drivers" addon has been unresponsive for a while. I am not the developer and I do not offer support for the product. If you buy the addon, you're doing so at your own risk. You may not get support or updates. I will update this message if I hear back from the developer.
    *Free Alternative:* Now there is a free RBF addon that has an active developer. Check it out here:

    thank you so much! I followed the link and I'm about to purchase. I've been toiling day and night on a model of the human vocal tract and how it relates to the body. I want to animate body parts with complex relationships, and I just don't have the math skills to express the things i know about how these parts move. Now I will be able to focus on the model itself and the content.

  • @HollowHiki
    @HollowHiki 3 года назад +5

    Any updates on the more advanced tutorial? Would like to see how a correction bone/shape key would work with this addon on something a bit more complex.
    Edit: Especially about limiting. I've noticed that once you go beyond the defined motion, it will inverse the motion, which in a lot of cases is not desired.
    Edit 2: Apparently these issues can be easily solved with constraining.

    • @CGDive
      @CGDive  3 года назад +4

      We have one planned, even the blend file is ready. But not sure when I can record it.
      As for limits, RBF doesn't have the concept of limits. What you can do is define an extreme pose and the result for it. Then move the driver bone past the extreme but leave the driven bones unchanged and set another pose. That will create a limit of sorts. Hope that makes sense.

    • @HollowHiki
      @HollowHiki 3 года назад +1

      @@CGDive It does make sense. I also experimented a bit with interpolation methods, and seems that might be a solution too. So either what you said, or constraints seem to be the way to go (if you want a dead-stop).

    • @CGDive
      @CGDive  3 года назад +2

      I am not the expert here. You should ask the creator on Discord... but the way I understand it is that RBF for Blender will only work in Blender. You can use it in your rigs to make your blender work easier... but it won't transfer to UE4 or Maya or any other tool even if they have a similar implementation.

    • @RoujinEX
      @RoujinEX 3 года назад

      @@CGDive Okay, thanx for the answer. I figured as much, but in that case it's unfortunately of little use to me.

    • @th3gr4ym4n
      @th3gr4ym4n 3 года назад +6

      @@RoujinEX RBF Driver developer here: You can absolutely use it for game development. RBF Drivers was designed not to interfere with your character pipeline. There are a number of users working with game engines. You can key transforms and shape keys and export
      in the usual way. No probs. I'm looking into making RBF Drivers compatible with UE4's 'Pose Driver'. Maya RBF systems are all propriety so that's unlikely though...

    • @RoujinEX
      @RoujinEX 3 года назад +2

      @@th3gr4ym4n Okay, that's really cool. Not being compatible with Maya might be a bit unfortunate, but not a big deal for me since I'm not planning on using Maya again for the foreseeable future anyway. Compatibility with Pose Drivers in UE4 would definitely open up a few interesting possibilities, so that's actually awesome!

    • @CGDive

      No, once you activate the RBF diver, the addon can be deactivated and it will still work. Or you can send the Blend file to another computer that doesn't have the Addon and it will work. You only need the addon for the initial setup. :)

      @@ic3d-structuraldetailing695 Uhm...
      RBF Driver is a special custom-built solution. It can possibly work together with ARP although I haven't tried it.
      " does auto-rig deal with the rbf drivers similar to this addion?"
      I am going to say, "no" because the two are completely different and unrelated. I still don't understand the question tbh, sorry :)
      But for general rigging, Auto-Rig Pro will give a very solid basis.

    • @CGDive

      It's both, actually. RBF is a way to calculate complicated stuff (it's too complex for me to understand lol). One of it's applications is in Rigging. It's also implemented in Maya, UE4 and other software.
      And it is also the name of the addon. :)

    • @AllExistence
      @AllExistence 3 года назад +1

      @@CGDive Have your tried though? What you showed didn't look that difficult. If you mean smoothing, then maybe you can't write math, but you surely can do something by editing curves.
      If you didn't know, drivers can be modified by curves to make more complex then linear expressions. That's why they can be found in curve window.

    • @CGDive
      @CGDive  3 года назад

      @@AllExistence Yes, you can do very complex things with Drivers. But you can't quite do what RBF does, especially not with the workflow that this addon offers.
