These costumes are great! You can see the true efforts do love that was put into making them! As for the “imperfect” costumes..........well, first of all, they’re still a thousand times more creative than anything put out by a factory today. Second, it’s those imperfections that give the costumes real character and uniqueness that you just don’t see in costumes anymore and third, can any of you honestly do any better? How many of you have even SEEN a sewing machine, much less tried to work one-especially a non electronic foot-pedal like many mothers had to work with in those days? How many of you have even picked up a sewing needle? Years ago there was a lot of love and effort put into making those costumes and it really shows. It took several days or even weeks of preparation to make these masterpieces. And those costumes lasted for a good many years. And if a person wanted to go the next year as a different character these mothers had the creativity and skill to take the old costume and change into something new. Nowadays people just run out to Walmart at the last minute and buy a cheaply made overly priced factory costume that looks just like any and every other cheaply made overpriced factory costume at the store, and they call themselves “original”, then act surprised when five or six other people show up at the party wearing the same f$&@kin’ costume! And the next day the costume, having served its one-day purpose, goes in the trash so that next year people can spend ANOTHER fortune on some cheaply made overpriced factory costume that five or six people are also going to wear to the party and will be thrown out the next day.

It was common in the early part of the century to have costume parades, trick or treating as we know it, came about as people began to move out of range of towns into suburbs. The Halloween Frolic in Hiawatha, KS is a 100 year plus tradition started by Mrs. John Krebs to abate vandalism on Halloween. During the Victorian era in the US, Halloween was actually more an adult thing, with costume parties being held by the middle class and upper class, particularly in the northeast. Towns across the US began holding costume parades after news of the Halloween Frolic was passed on. Also your so called aliens are actually Bibendum or the Michelin Man in a photo from the early 1900s.

Agreed with everyone who posted about it. Creepy dolls were around long before Chucky. The Great Gabbo (1929) was probably the first. And a long line of others came after, The Devil Doll, Talky Tina, Doll from Deep Red, the movie "Magic", Puppet Master series, the movie "Dolls", and on and on antecedent to Chucky. A second of research (if you're not familiar with the genre) is all it takes.

The movie Dolls predates Childs Play by a year. Considering many traditional dolls were made as vessels for people who passed away or with hair of the deceased dolls have had an air of unease about them for a long time. This is before you factor in the uncanny valley and the feeling of being watched.

FYI - rhe original dressing-up/costume day in the US was Thanksgiving. According to the NYC Library website:
"Before Halloween was the holiday known for dressing up in costume and begging for candy (this practice did not become common until the 1940's and 50's), children in NYC often participated in what was called Ragamuffin Day. On Ragamuffin Day - which was Thanksgiving Day - children would dress themselves in rags and oversized, overdone parodies of beggars (a la Charlie Chaplin's character "The Tramp"). The ragamuffins would then ask neighbors and adults on the street, "Anything for Thanksgiving?" The usual response would be pennies, an apple, or a piece of candy. "

5:21 wrong ... dolls have had supernatural purposes long before they became toys for children.

This proves that if u really want to freak people out on Halloween, go with creating your own costume. Its much scarier and cooler to be original! Instead of a generic knock off where people KNOW what you are.

"The class of Milk is pale white, giving the impression that it has been dead for some time... the person who took the photograph probably had no idea of it's sinister intentions.
As the glass of Milk sits stationary, you can almost feel the chilling cold temperature that it gives off.
Not many know the origin of the glass of Milk but it's saft to say it's un-wordly."
...i can talk shit too 😂
