- lyrics:
It's always the same
I'm the only one who's
always left to blame
Take what you can take
Hurt is your only idea of a game
To break away
I don't have that within me
And I'm not your prey
So I bite the hand that feeds me
When all you do is break me
And put me
You put me in a cage
When I look in the mirror
All that I see
A zoo animal that wants to be free
Just get away, get away from me
'Cause I'll never be who
you want me to be
No
It's always the same
It's not easy to keep
myself contained
Sit back and relax
How can I when I'm going
down in flames?
'Cause all you do is break me
And put me
You put me in a cage
Get away get away get away get away
All you do is break me
And put me
You put me in a cage
When I look in the mirror
I just want to be free
Want to be free
I just want to be free
From their album "Angels Vs Animals"
Extract from Wikipedia:
Front 242 is a pioneering Belgian electronic music group that came into prominence during the 1980s. During their most active period (effectively ending in 1993 with the albums 06:21:03:11 Up Evil and 05:22:09:12 Off) they influenced many electro-industrial and electronic artists.
When industrial music developed in England in the mid-1970s with Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle, these groups used electronic instruments, percussion with found objects, and looped samples of "found" soundbites, elements later taken up by Front 242. These techniques can be seen as an extension of the use of electronic sources of sound as musical instruments and percussion with found objects by composer Edgard Varèse.
Front 242 was created in 1981 in Aarschot, near Brussels, Belgium, by Daniel Bressanutti and Dirk Bergen, who wanted to create music and graphic design using emerging electronic tools. The first single, "Principles", was released in 1981. The front part of the name comes from the idea of an organized popular uprising. Patrick Codenys and Jean-Luc De Meyer had separately formed a group called Under Viewer at about the same time, and the two duos joined together in 1982. Bressanutti, Codenys and De Meyer took turns on vocals at first, until they settled on De Meyer as the lead vocalist (early recordings with Bressanutti on vocals have recently been released). De Meyer came to write most of the lyrics and Valerie Jane Steele also wrote several tracks including "Don't Crash". They decided not to use the regular waveform settings on their synthesizers, arguing that creating the waveform for each note was part of the creative process.
Their next single, "U-Men", was released in 1982, followed by the band's first album Geography that same year. These first releases were cited as influential to other artists in the genre; however, they were not strong and hard-hitting as the group's later efforts. In 1983, Dirk Bergen left the band to pursue graphic design, and Richard Jonckheere, referred to as Richard 23, joined as vocalist

Som facts:
Front 242 is one of the greatest!
Up Evil and OFF are underrated albums.
99 Kowalski is hot.
Yes you are right!
Front 242 became popular in the most hardcore electronic music circles in Ecuador in the late 80s and early 90s! Grupazo.
Why is this not available on Spotify? This fact is ruining playlists by its absence.
Front 242 got it, everyone else, not so much.

looks like she felt a bit awkward being filmed singing for a 242 video.. as if made to do film dead sober,, sometimes it's funny to see yourself perform watching back !! she did a great job though.. so interesting she never did anything with the band aside from ".....off" coulda been a contender
For 3 1/2 minutes, I was 17 again.
The best breakbeat sound
not sure if you guys gives a damn but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times you can stream pretty much all of the latest series on instaflixxer. Been streaming with my brother for the last months xD
@Johnathan Nicholas Yea, been using instaflixxer for years myself =)
I just discovered the elusive legendary EBM-Vaporwave connection! 1:55
baste
You're completely right! Time to revive the early 90s - the late 80s are overdone!!
Very underrated group
And a very underrated album within their catalog
Such a departure from their other work but it works so well. Perfect combo of industrial, breakbeats, and 90s rave aesthetics. 99 Kowalski sounds great
That woman is cute as hell.
thanks!
Sounds more 99 than 93
At 1:56 we have free masonic symbolism. The pillars and halo.
Nope. Kristine "99" Kowalski from Spill Head.
What a fantastically missed opportunity
I always thought that the lyrics were
“Because all you do is Rate Me”
I thought this was my ultimate Fuck You Song
Such a great fucking song
Legendary :)

Wow! That was fuckin amazing. This is so my new theme song!
Does anyone know who is the girl singing?
I decent song on an album that was generally weak. I believe the studio wanted a more mainstream, industrial rock sound. But that just wasn't front 242's style. Same thing happened with most the other post-industrial bands, this time marked the end of them.
Crapage was good
I got into all of these bands long after they stopped being active and I would always wonder what really happened to a bunch of them
Super weak compared to Front by Front or Official Version. The early ebm sound is making a resurgence now
Like Like MEGALIKE
Oh my. thank you!
Sometimes I get this feeling of power coming up through my body
I wonder if I start recording from sun up to sun down
nice ketchup pak
Thanks for this.
Do you know who sings here?
Kristin Kowalski

Just terrible. WTF were 242 thinking? well I guess even geniuses have bad days!
Industrial is about going across all borders, against any expectations. Never trust industrialists that they will try to be appealing to anybody ;)
(yeah, EBM is still industrial at heart, especially true bands like 242)
It was a lot of studio interference, they wanted a more rock sound. At this time, all the post-industrial bands were getting studios pressuring them to make something more like nine inch nails or Ministry. It kinda ruined the whole scene.
Capitalism and art don't co exist well
@@alienvomitsex Don't know about that, too deep for me! But this is still the worst thing 242 ever did! IMHO. hahahaha
I came here to test my new headphones, needed something that sounded good and loud and it was the only song I could think of. Brought back lots of memories.
Reminds me of a DEVO video
