By studio, do you mean Arrowhead? Are you familiar with Arrowhead's history? They haven't been working exclusively with Sony, they have in fact only developed 2 of their 5 games for Sony, two others being published by Paradox, who basically scammed AH out of their IP, and then they also published Gauntlet for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
I also have to point out that AH contracted with Sony to develop the first Helldivers sometime before 2015, Sony owning the IP then asked them to develop the squeal 8 years ago.
Exactly why I kept my guard up. Fuck this industry as a whole dude.

Arrowhead knew yes, but it also wasn't Arrowheads choice to sell the game in 126 countries that doesn't have access to PSN, that was and is always the decision of the publisher and Arrowhead is the developer. Also just checking my notes here, the publisher for Helldivers 2 is... Sony Entertainment Interactive.
The Arrowhead CEOs plan was to have the game be a massive success and use that to stop Sony from mandating the PSN linking.
Arrowhead has no choice and say. Sony owns them so they are forced to.

Let's think about this for a moment.
Sony Public Relations managed to stop the bad PR, bad Reviews and Refunds before the upcoming Sony Quarterly Earnings Call.
The only thing it cost them is:
A. A Twitter Post, and
B. Delaying the Mandatory PSN Linking (Unless they post otherwise IN STEAM, this is only a delay).
Too many of the community rewarded them with positive reviews before they actually DID anything that would be permanent in Steam. This would be revoking the 177 regions that are currently blocked to buy the game that was implemented on May 4th, changing the Helldivers 2 Steam Page to show that PSN is OPTIONAL, and posting a news article under the game's Steam News stating that going forward the ability to link a PSN account is optional and only required for PS5 Cross Play.
Until these things are done we as a community was played by Sony Public Relations and we completely fell for it.
The community rewarded Arrowhead Games for also fighting against Sony's changes by changing their review. The community also has access to lawsuits. If you're not in America, you have amazingly strict consumer rights protections that are fully enforced. A lot of things Soyny has done breaks these laws. If they want to lose money, fine. Let them bleed with lawsuit after lawsuit. Make them beg for mercy, then show none. Glass 'em.
IMHO Sony wants to wait through backlash so they can keep doing whatever they want. They assume players are already forgetting anti-consumer practices
I thought the Sony "walk back" message was purposely very muddy, and sounded like a used car salesman. They could have easily said "No PSN account will be needed for Helldivers 2", but instead they had all this opaque language (and did not let the other countries start playing again). My guess is they will require a PSN account along with any DLCs.
Many of my friends have not changed their review.
When I asked why they said people were too dumb to turn theirs around before the restrictions were officially removed.

The corporations involved in gaming HAVE to understand one simple thing...we don't need them, they need our money. They should live in fear and comply with what majority of the customer base wants.
Wouldn't surprise me if Steam was the one who pulled sale of the game from those 100+ countries due to Sony creating a liability for them with that PSN linking nonsense. Now it's either taking time before they can get Steam to agree to open sales of the game back up for those countries or Sony is indeed just sitting on their hands and doing nothing. Either way, Sony bad.
I said something similar in a different comment section. Thanks to that I just learned 3 new regions were added to the list TODAY, so something did happen with that. Also, Pilestedt just responded to someone about this saying they just heard of this from the community and that they are currently on holiday.

@@zarnarclight6493 Arrowhead (the devs) are on holiday. And Pilestedt (their CEO) is imo the most reliable source of information we have currently with Twinbeard as a close 2nd. Snoy probably wasn't on holiday though, that's why things happened without anyone at Arrowhead hearing anything about it until the community started questioning them. Also, look at their stocks right now, Snoy is down 10%. Plus, there's a chance the EU might go after them, would be funny to see Sony beg for their shareholders to stay after a huge legal trouble with the EU.
Edit: So it seems Steam has confirmed it is indeed Sony's decision. Well, I guess they will be quite pissed about the consequences that are coming their way.

I honestly have nothing against Arrowhead, the CEO and Twinbeard have both been very good to their player base, I really wish they pull through this stronger than before, but I cannot condone anything Sony has done in the last two weeks

But I don't get one thing. Some of the countries are in European Union, to sell a product in it you need to include all the countries. They risk losing whole Western Europe, it's a huge gamble.

They never said they were allowing sales again in these countries. They only walked back the requirement and almost everyone rejoiced and changed their review. Sony wants to push PSN and they can’t if they all these other countries for one game.

Worse then this. If you went to PSN to try to get your PSN game unlinked they effectively have suspended your account for "BReACH OF TERMS"
I've said in other videos but I think the reversal is taking a while because Valve might be trying to sort out all the details and get a GUARANTEE from Sony that they will never pull this stunt again as the last thing Valve wants is Sony doing this once more and their customer service being swamped with refunds, the game spammed with negative reviews and Valve getting into legal trouble

I'm from one of the de-listed countries. Was looking forward to buy the game this weekend. Shame, I won't be able to play the game with my friends who bought this game at day 1 now.

I don‘t think it‘s that surprising. Their announcement to not do the PSN Link was worded in a way to still leave the possibility open to do it later. Which likely means, that is their plan. So if they already know that those countries will be locked out in the future and likely refund much of the revenue, there‘s no point for Sony to spend capacity on them.
I suspect the main reason why sony do not "fix this", is because they want to do this again. But, if they allow the players back in, then they can not ban them later. Or if they do, they open them self to lawsuits.
At this point, I'm fairly sure Sony is simply trying to stall until the quarterly earnings meeting next week. After that, then they will go right back to what they tried to do in the first place. They've had a week to change the store and at least start the process of reinstating the blocked regions but have done nothing.
I thought it was where the Steam store page stopped users from those countries from purchasing it? The players that owned it already should be able to play it even if they were from that country. Unless this has to do with a Sony policy or something.

Fun fact if you own the game in one of those countries and didn’t refund you can play, right now you can’t purchase tho. This is on steams end.
