Lyrics:
Yo, a day in the life of a player named Quik
I'm just a stubborn kind of fellow with a head like a brick
And just because I drink the 8, they say that I'm hopeless
But I don't give a fuck, so blame it on the loc-est
Now this is how we do it when we checkin a grip
Teddy Bear's in the house, so don't even trip
We're bustin funky compositions as smooth as a prism
So check it while I kick it to this funky ass rhythm
It's Friday morning, the phone is ringin off the hook (brrrrrring)
And AMG is puttin down girl rhymes in his notebook
Or should I say dope sack, because we don't bust wack (brrrrrring)
I pick up the phone and it's the D (whassup nigga?)
He said he's comin down at about two on the dot
So I'm about to rush the tub while my water's still hot
And now I'm soakin, a brother like the devestatin DJ Quik ain't jokin
Fuck with me on DSP and you'll get broken
My name is Quik, but you can call me Daddy
Yo open up the door, they think I'm Freak Man in a Caddy
Now Freaky's in an El doggin shabbies in at Alco
And everybody's sippin on a quart (here we go)
D just came with a forty and a quart
In addition to the three that Greedy just brought
But I don't wanna start early, so I just might
put my forty in the freezer cause I wanna get bent (tonite)
Tonight's the nite (yeah) (tonite)
Tonight is the nite (tonite)
Tonight's the nite (yo when we gon get bent) (tonite)
Tonight is the nite (aww yeah) Видеоклипы

Literally!
Ahead of his time. It’s crazy this is 1991. Quik had the flow pattern and produced his own shit… honestly a force in the industry. I played this and they didn’t even know it was a 1991 rapper but knew it was a throwbackish beat. Timeless flow.. a straight Gfunk Roger Trautman/David Blake enhanced 2021 Quik album would get my $. No cap.
He couldn't go wrong sampling Kleeer, the original Tonight.
@@darryljenkins7764 yessir!
People forget about Kleeer, they have classix.
Then they got sampled for Cali Love by Pac and Dre a few years later.
When N.W.A opened the doors, DJ Quik and his crew (AMG, HI-C & Tony A, 2nd to None) hold the doors
*Troutman
No cap? Is that something from this generation?
2024 Anyone? This song never gets old.
Still bumping this whole album mane!
Sure, even got his newer shit 💯
Tonite!
tonite for sure!
Barbary Coast wild wild West
The GOAT.. still bumping this till this day.
I'm give another one 😊
this will never get old, too fresh
Back when rappers were great storytellers and had a testimony to tell.
Russell Adams See let me explain to these youngsters who think they know music. This shit right here is story telling. I can literally picture this whole story as a weekend playing out & it was actually lyrics & more than 2 3 mins of lyrics not that bullshit repetitive mumble jumble for 2 mins then the song is over & talked about absolutely nothing.
Lol they spoke from experience. A neat freak makes sure he don't leave a mess. Like a paper trail and have a vindictive wife that's waiting for any reasons to leave for simple fact y'all ain't beating guts right and take all them millions y'all stole from the people
@@TheMan-qv1bl you want story telling? Listen to Kendrick Lamar's album called Good MAAD City
Lowrider Life he alright but still weak compared to the 90’s rap.
My dad told me the exact thing
it's fucked up that a lot of people don't know DJ Quik.
+Diego Horta Yes, I was just thinking about that before I saw this comment.
The most underrated and slept on producer and rapper
+Diego Lara Me too, omg
Man him and Dj Battlecat dont get the credits they deserve yo is crazy
born in 85 , grew up on quik
It's crazy how Dj Quik influenced the West Coast Rap
Dj quick did not influence west coast music, people like nwa and too short did, dj quick was also underground so he wasnt really known back in the day
Marcus Washington They were all underground NWA was just controversial that's why they sold most of their albums. And Quik is a west coast God so you smokin crack if you thinkin he didnt influence alot of the west coast sound
Real talk jack, 2true on that, underground Olskool legend influencing it spreaded out to the country side n other Midwest towns N watnot, shit n parts of the world tranna jock as well, that's why we call (😎WEST. Coast OG) alsewhere young gees but a with different vibe to it, nowdaysNshit.
@@marcuswashington3131 Quik was part of that era along with PAC N Dre. N the Rest West Coast Gangsta Rap from Dee late 80's to around late 90's7,8and99 shit change/flipped after 2000's
The real god father of gangster rap. From Compton CA
DJ quik's problem is that he was TOO good
Herman Cortez na I'm only running one like 15% percent
Wym
lil steve he means that’s the reason why he was so underrated compared to the mainstream artists that wasn’t as good as Quik
He STILL is good had 3 albums out in the past decade that where dope. That's the thing with Quik, he can adapt his sound and still keep that funk. Better producer than Dr Dre in my opinion.
Don Theking MUSIC sadly that no one knows de Quik that much
2024 Anyone?????
If don't know you will learn 😊
100% pure hip hop classic. Underrated as hell, too.
Back when rappers actually made clean radio versions and it didn't sound corny like it does now
so true
Griff Oliver Because rappers don’t have to rap for radio anymore.
You Such a Freakin’ girl LMAO 😂
The reason for that is bc today’s rappers talk about partying or drugs or alcohol or gangs
And all they talk about is being rich unlike the 90s
Bc rappers these days are pussyz
Vainest 11 DJ Quik in this song is talking about partying and drinking 40s...
Quik is not only the man but way ahead of his time!!!!
DJ Quik is so smooth with the flow in this one.... this remind me of a Eazy- E song.
Better than Eazy-E imo
Quik is my nigga he should get the same respect as Dr Dre when it comes to producing. Quik been grinding forever
aint that da truth
+Jonathan Vazquez plus at least quik make his own beats and lyrics unlike dre
he the man, he aint dre tho. no way.
+Darryl Brumfield nah man hes on the same level. he can play more instruments then dre. has a wider variety of beats he can make. if he not better then he close
+Darryl Brumfield I disagree much respect to dre but quik is the better producer.
this is what we had to listen to as kids. classic after classic I miss those days.
he said sum bout killin a nigga on the klean version
+greg battles Let's not lie now
I remember this party I went to as a kid they wouldn't let us play no hard core rap so all we had was the "Born And Raised" radio edit so we'd eat then dabce every fifteen minutes when the DJ played the song!!
Ed gein
Oh poor you. You only grew up in the golden age of hip hop. I grew up in the 2000s with Wayne and Yeezy and soulja boy and them. A few good like T.I. But you don't know how good you had it.
One of the best 💚
Such a fun song. Makes me wanna skate:)))
The only Cali rapper I will always have respect for!. Dj Quik was so underrated !!!
Tupac? Eazy? Snoop? Dre?
Dj quik is the only rapper Alive besides Dr. Dre that are from Compton. I have lots of respect to DJ Quik because he never sold out. Respect to him unlike Dr. dre he went mainstream and also went his own way. Dj quik didn't let the money changed him. He still produced great records and till this day he still keeps it real. He hasn't changed from his style. He went from rags to riches and still keeps it real like if he was in rags which you don't even see from rappers in this day.
+daGod Emcee but no pne was more dominant more then Ice Cube tho.
mc eiht, spice 1, ice cube?
there's been plenty of dope West Coast rappers
back when edited versions were creative
back when rappers weren't too lazy to make clean versions
Already miss these days hitting Sound warehouse wit my ends to cop the new Shit
To bad it looks horrible
Lol right. I remember back in the day I got fucked by Walmart on the Too Short get in where you fit in album. Got home and started listening. Damn thing was edited.
Back when werent gay
West , Coast legend DJ Quick one of California s finest
Nostalgic, and this song still moves me in 2021❣💯👍🏾
That coherent flow... 😍
THIS JOINT NEVER GETS OLD WE BUMPING THIS SINCE THE 90S TILL INFINITI!!!!!!
Yes yes 🙌
DJ Quik is the greatest rapper and a producer
I thought you weren't drinking no more?? yeah right cause as soon as they come we doing the same ol $hit Tonite!
"thang"
lol i read this comment right when he said it in the song
This song was just four years late for my crew from Albuquerque. We would have been cranking this up before every party.
My name is Sharon, I remember when my friends an I were coming home from school, E. Morris. Cox on 98th an. Bancroft in Oakland. But we were walking home from the crawn Lodge on 99th I think but, we seen D.J. Quick playing basketball at his grandmother's house with his freinds It was big an beautiful, the house was yellow an white, nice. An a few years later, he came up, an the first record I heard was, Tonite, an I said to myself, I'm proud I seen him when he was young, I'm 46 know. Lvin it.
wow that was a great old school story us babies need that lol
QUIK*** damn y'all need to get this man's name right.
@@supercharger_2596 Yeah Sharon, the name is Quik and it is I SAW, not I SEEN. What is up with that?
Sharon Jpnes hey fellow East Oakland native!
@@adc2327 but you get what she saying. Fuck you a teacher? Use your comprehension skills idiot. And she got it right the first time seen is past tense bitchh.
This helped kick off the '90 's and the West Coast sound along with The D.OC. and Above the Law.
Quik Is The Name will always be his best and most important. It was the precursor to G-Funk.
Born in 1994, and I love these songs man grew up on them! Bumping in 2017!
Damn I'm born from 94 too that's crazy 😅
30 years old Today ,Quik 🔥🔥🔥
Yes he was on this classic🎉

Damn, this track was Swimming Pools before Swimming Pools.
Underrated West Coast legend
My name is Quik, but you can call me daddy
i found that funny too
Okayyyy
LMAO
Ayeeeee
Best line ever!!
Something about this era was so authentic and organic. This new shit aight, but this.. this puts a smile on my face. I was born in 97, so this is way before my time. I just remember this being played all throughout the house and at cookouts miss them days.
Tonite.....
Ed
Classic hip hop right here. This inspires me to make my own custom made old school hip hop...!!!
Classic 💯🫡 Nobody can follow this beat like DJ Quick My Respects
115 people dont know a west coast classic when they hear one
+AJ Lucas now its 169 people that dont know
+AJ Lucas classic period! I am from Cleveland Ohio and Dj Quik was played on heavy rotation. Still can bump it today!
and he STILL fine as hell.. lol.. Damn Quik...hahahahah can't wait to see you and Suga Free live in LA later this month! So excited!
Holy shit! He's still touring?? Awesome!!!
Yup, he did a project with Problem if you havent heard it yet.
N. A. yes!! he is very easy on the eyes!!!
The flow, beat and everything feels so nostalgic even though this was way before my time.
Absolute gem!
this was the jam back in the day I had to be in the 7th grade when this came out but I loved me some DJ Quik!!
Haha same. I was in the 7th too

If you still listen to this song your an legend
One of the realest til this day in the music industry...
This song is truly a westcoast staple and classic of parties out here since it came out. Also, whats amazing is he come from the city im from where gang violence was off the charts, to be a member of a gang and high profile rap career and still be around is a testament to his street smarts and respect he gets.
lol I remember listening to this driving to high school
I always love this song n music video DJ quick was like prince of rap 😎😎😎😎
I allways like dj quick style
Forever Love 🖤
90s all day everyday 🖤
I remember this song being played at all underground parties in the early 90s..I'm so happy all these rappers became successful.
Hello patriciapearl, How are you doing?
is nice meeting you here!
This song gets no respect in hip hop. This should easily be in the top 50 to 100 songs in rap history but they overlook it in the Source magazine when they do they're top songs or whatever.Only once they had it ranked at number 27 but I think that was a survey they did on the west coast. When the writers do it themselves they say fuck Quik and completely give him the middle finger.
Really. I like your point and many people consider great artist as people who sell records and break music charts. It doesn't happen that way to me because all the good music is never played in the radio and some rappers like to stay underground and keep it low profile. Dj quick came up and some won't consider this song in the top 10 list. Many people who compare artist have different standards as what the best top 10 old school tracks are.
Still love this song
I had this on cassette along with freaky tales from too short
This still bumps👀
2020 yessssss . Please let us go back to the 90s for a month.
Thirty years ago!!! Wow time sure does fly by QUIK
Love DJ Quik
The very first song that put me on to Quik...ever since then he's influenced me to make beats and produce. Thank you QUIK...You are truly my favorite rapper. I'm 48 years old and can't get with the new school rappers but I'm cool with dat 😎.
He has the best voice EVER.
This still a party starter😀😀😀😀
Long live Quik!
The MOST UNDERRATED and UNDERAPPRECIATED RAPPER OF ALL WEST COAST RAPPERS! (Probably of ALL RAPPERS PERIOD!!!) West Coast Legend!!! DJ Quik!!! Hope it doesn't take "Death" UNTIL HE GETS HIS DUE HONORS. Unfortunately for some, that' what it takes. U ALWAYS had my vote Quikster!!!
This shit was it in the 90s🔥🔥🔥
I use to jam to DJ quick back in jr high. 1993. When rap was the best.
Such a classic banger
PERFECT ON EVERY LEVEL..
19.. TONI TONE TUNES
I bought this album in the UK on tape in 1991. I still have it somewhere. At the time I was really into scratching in hip-hop tracks, so I bought it solely because it was by someone with "DJ" in their name, lol. I hadn't heard any of the tracks before. It's a dope album though, and this track is still something I come back to nearly 30 years later.
Timeless.........and loving the CURL ( I couldn't sport one) but it was dope lol. Much love.......old school West Coast!
Was and STILL IS THE MAN !!!!
"Chillin' like a villain, and that's how I'm livin'..."42yr old lady, and I still say that to THIS day. Cracks the millenials up. But i'm not even tryin' to be cool. Just part of my 90s vernacular. Never let it go. probably never will. I don't care.
dang right!
Lol I was born n 91 this aint the 2000s this the new90s in my soul😭😭😭🤷👑😏🌟🙌💛
The single had the instrumental. This beat is hard asf. Yes I had it on tape 😆
quik the best forever and ever
Quik is sooooo underrated
the only Dj that can actually spit and produce.... not like punk ass khalid and mustard lol
I agree with khaled. But mustard is cool.
dj mustard makes beats wtf 😂😂

Yes Sir
Imagine al the night clubs bumping this back in the '90s.
This Jam takes me WAAAAAAAAY BACK!! High School days..
I think DJ Quik discovered G-Funk before Dr. Dre🤔😏👍🏽
🎶Sweatsuit, the gray one with the burgundy trim and its a medium, fits me proper cause I'm nice and slim🎶
🔥🔥🔥
Quick was on his game on this one 💪🏿
1991 was the best year in Quik's life. This album dropped days before his birthday January 18th.The album had already went Gold before this song came out in June.Everywhere i went somebody was bumpin this song or this entire album. That whole Summer of 91 was lit.Boyz In Da Hood was out in theatres and Jordan win his first championship with the Bulls.Quik was already flamed up wearing Bulls gear and Jordan was his favorite player so you know they was partying extra hard and turning up in the streets
DJ Quik is sooo under-rated as a rapper and producer!! It's because most people don't know the history and the early pioneers of hip hop!
Quik had some of the best party tracks, this comes on and folks are feelin good it gets even better
You two are the sweetest to watch!
My nigga quik 😈🔥🔥🔥 west side
Legendary True Classic that stands the test of time like Egyptian Pyramids
DJ Quik's music is the music playing in the background of my life growing up. Im the same age as Quik , and this song "Tonight" brings back so many good memories . You could turn his music up loud and it would sound even better , crystal clear. Bump it in your ride , bump it on foot, with your box , it didn't matter , it would sound good. People who didn't like rap actually started opening up to Rap because of DJ Quik ... The beats , the lyrics ... the stories... It was all good in the hood in them days. What up Quik ? Much respect , don't stop , we need more music ... ! God Bless
So true 🦋🦋
That "Quik Is The Name" album came out my senior year of high school. This was the Friday-Night-getting-ready-to-posse-up-and-hit-the-block anthem. Back when a high school kid could walk into his local corner store and buy a 40 oz. and not worry about getting carded. 😁
@@JheriCurlJankins Hahaha , no shit , I was buying alcohol at 15 years old and then when I really was 21 they started carding me. lol All the girls where drinking wine coolers , Strawberry hill , I liked Mickey's 40oz . back then, but it had to be super cold ! Good memories Jheri J. !
It's true alot of older black people listened to Quik bcuz the type of music he was making. The black community loved Quik the only reason why Dre and Snoop were bigger were bcuz they were super mainstream
And to think I sat in his house in the valley ( west coast ) eating spaghetti while having some deep conversation with David about music engineering about soul of a man and his creative ability lol there also the great late mossburg and the 1 and only Mr. Suga Free amongst others we had a good time ( oh me 2face from Pomona Kalifornia….much respect to the Penthouse Klique….
