Huge explosions, raging fires, pouring rain, rotating hallways- special effects help create the iconic spectacles that movies are oh so good at. When a special effect is good, it’s hard to imagine that it is anything other than real. But special effects, like most things in narrative movies, are largely staged. And behind that staging is the special effects supervisor.
