Dude great video, but you knocked the wind out of my sail, I'm a Pepsi guy all the way, after seeing coke go through so many changes in my 62 years of life!! I just think coke is to sweet now!! And always use a sawyer or a grayl!! For shore!!
I drink water treated with iodine through a filter straw. Regardless, water treated with any of those methods would taste so bad in the comfort of your home. Same as ashes in my home cooked food or pinecones in my bed.
I loved this 😂 it was great seeing your thought process with all those! I've always wondered what each of these would taste like. I've always used either a Sawyer or Katadyn in the backcountry and I bring Aquatabs as a backup just in case.
Thanks, Alex! That’s a great way to fly… filter and Aquatabs as a backup. I’ve always really liked the simplicity and lack of taste from Aquatabs…. I think the lack of taste was actually why this ended up tasting so bad in this particular test! I think the Potable Aqua tabs masked some of the brackish flavor of the water whereas the Aquatabs simply didn’t. Ha!
That was great. Loved the content, and I’m surprised about the Aquatabs like you were. Usually they’re not that bad. I’d love to see you do something like this again with freeze-dried meals or water flavoring packets (Liquid IV, LMMT, etc).
Great idea! I will have to do that! Yeah, I’ve been thinking about it and I believe the Aquatabs don’t really have a flavor to them, so I may have been simply tasting just how brackish the water was, versus the iodine based tabs and their very strong flavor were masking the taste. 😅
Sawyer is what I use and carry for just in case when outdoors. It's been a great, durable filter and supports an amazing company that is the hands and feet of Jesus.
4:45 All cola blows. Mountain Dew. So, it's a coincidence, but I just picked up a pack of AquaTabs to bring as a backup treatment in case my Sawyer fails on trail. I guess the moral of the story here is that if I'm desperate enough to use the AquaTabs, I need to find the very best source of water possible. I'm not a fan of chemical treatment for water. I'm not patient.
That was an awesome video. It’s hard to believe you didn’t get sick with that murky water even after treatment. So you didn’t get even a little upset with any of these? Personally I just love the Grayl. I even take to Ti 16oz when I am traveling to other cities to treat tap water and avoid single use plastics. I will say that lake water, river water, anything seems to taste like nicely purified and clear with the Grayl.
I don’t usually feel any ill effects. The mud could still contain heavy metals and viruses though. Only some filters will filter out viruses and heavy metals.
Ok, for the newbs out here, why so many tab/chemical options? Do they have their strengths uses? What would cause someone to choose between the three options?
Great question! Here’s my take on it… Iodine tabs: old school. Takes a bit of time. Strong taste. Iodine plus neutralizer tabs (PA+): takes a while but tastes better Aquatabs: faster. Less of a taste footprint if you will. The chemical options are great as a secondary or a back up option to a good filter.
This deserves so many more views! Easily the best new(ish) backpacking channel I’ve found! Please keep making content like this!!
So the final ranking was:
Tap - 10/10
Sawyer - 9/10
Iodine - 5/10
Boiled - 4/10
PA+ - 3/10
Aqua tabs - 1/10
I am entertained. I’m glad you’re doing this so I don’t need to!😂
😂😅
great video, the blind comparison is a good test.
I LOVE COCA-COLA!!!
This was a great idea! Well done!
Thanks, Steven! 😅 Coke is the BEST! I knew you were a cool guy! 🥤
Cool episode. Thanks
Much appreciated! Thanks for watching.

What’s the song at 11:15 please?
I found it on artlist. I’m not sure what the name of the song though off the top of my head.

Great video! Thank you for putting your life on the line for us 😂
Thank you! I will take a parasite for my audience any day! 😅
Nice video. Love it! Do more content like this :)
Thanks! Duly noted, and thanks for the feedback!

There’s nothing to get sick from everything in the mud is dead

Thanks for the asmr, except I fell asleep lol
Are you absolutely sure you treated that swamp water with the aqua tabs???
I would love more videos like this but I’m a Pepsi guy.
Casey, I won’t hold it against you! 😂 Thank you for being here!
I’ll definitely stick with my Sawyer Squeeze for filtering. I’m a lifelong Coca-Cola drinker!❤
Team Sawyer! 💪🏼 Yeah! Thanks for watching!
I think I’ll stick with my Sawyer….
Me too! 😅
sawyer is the best!!
💯 agree!
