  • A very common practice in the performance diesel world is a p-pump conversion. Also known as a p7100 injection pump. Here I run you through the basics and necessities of that swap! This is one of the more capable injection pumps ever made, for high power applications. Thanks for watching! I have a video of me putting 32 ounces of diesel additive into my 2001 Deville with the Northstar v8. Yes I know it is a gas engine. I wanted to see what would happen. At first I didn't notice anything. Then the engine was kinda quick. The main thing I notice was the mpg went up from 18.5 to 23. The cel came on and the code is po125. The engine is running too cool.
    N/a diesel engine run cooler than gas engines. This is the reason the engine is running cool. When the additive is burn up. The engine should run normal temp again.

      Used dynomite diesel stage 4 race injectors. Stock 1st gen non IC head in this video. Have a Hamilton street head for it. I'm sure piston shape makes a difference but you'd have to ask the p pump specialist (Farrell diesel service)

    Did you lock the VE pump, for timing purposes before removing it? Did you Pop Test the new injectors before installing them? And did you use head studs for the added boost since your running a Compound turbo setup? The Video was very good. Hamilton Cam was a definite Upgrade over the stock, I assume you used new camfollowers? Lot easier just to find a second gen and slap it in. But, to each his own. Good Job!!

    • @Tinman2Kustoms
      @Tinman2Kustoms  5 лет назад

      Yes. VE was locked for the guy that bought it from me. The new injectors were brand new, custom built race injectors by Dynomite diesel. Each one was tested before they sent them out the door. ARP studs throughout. And yes, new hamilton pushrods & valvesprings were also added. It would have been easier to find a 2nd gen, you're right, but found the 1st gen dirt cheap and didn't think I was going to want to build the power that I ended up wanting lol so it needed a bigger pump. Thanks for watching & commenting!

    You already had the powerstering pump off. Why not just set tdc using pin. Your going to want it closer than eyeballed when installing p pump. Or your just gonna do double the work to re-verify timing or spill port time it.

    • @Tinman2Kustoms
      @Tinman2Kustoms  5 лет назад

      You can't rely on just the pin to hold timing either. Especially when you have different parts coming from all over the place. We checked timing off the pump after it was all installed, as well as marking the harmonic dampener at TDC when the head was off.

    • @mattbleiler759

      @@Tinman2Kustoms if you timed the engine b4 switching the gearhousing engine would be at a factory tdc minus wear on lower end components thrpwing a tad off but then all ypu wpuld have to to is move the pin and pin body to exact location on cam when reinstalling then all you have to worry about is pump. Wich is already locked in. It would simplify things a bit for the folks that want to tackle the task. Especially when likely they wont be up for tackeling learning spilport timing or even as little as getting a dial indicator out to find tdc on the piston

    • @Tinman2Kustoms
      @Tinman2Kustoms  5 лет назад

      @@mattbleiler759 I understand what you're saying, but depending on the P-pump to be pinned/timed properly is a risk. You are best off just getting a dial indicator and doing it right, as was shown in the video.

      @mattbleiler759 5 лет назад

      @@Tinman2Kustoms with all do respect. Im well aware of how to properly time. I build 1complete 4bt 6bta or 6cta depending on orders. I guess what im getting at is ypur video only shows a couple indicators in a still frame with zero instructions. After earlier suggesting that you could find tdc by visual alighnment of gear stamps. Just seemed misguided. You often time pumps based on performance desires as well and simply put if engine was at factory tdc and pump pin was is shes going to be fairly spot on. That and the fact that the only right way to time is spillport. And to truely do it right it would tale you about 500 dollars to make a cart or rig with a fuel pump to do. I enjoy the video.
