I am glad they are expanding the number of rides and that it can be used throughout the year with no restrictions. I remember when I was 10 years old, I received the orange MetroCard that only had 3 rides. I had to go to a parent teacher conference with my mom in the evening. We had to take the B14 bus in Brooklyn to get to the school. Because I had went to school earlier that day, I had already used two rides. I needed to save the extra ride to get home. When I went on the bus for the third time that day, the bus driver yelled at me and he stopped the bus in front of the police precent because he would not have moved the bus until I payed the fare. This was back in 2004 when the fare was only 2 dollars. It took a passenger to hand him a two-dollars in cash before he decided to move the bus again.
I am glad that students will be able to travel freely to get to needed appointments and extra-curricular activities. It is needed especially for families who can't meet the fare gap.
If NYC, NYS and this country were in GOOD SHAPE, EVERYONE wouldn't be POOR and need this kind of "socialized" help. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
