"and still the bastard divorced me" is my favorite part of this musical to belt lmao
2:03 for your enjoyment
You read my mind
Yes MA’AM STEPHHHHHHH!!!!!
oh try to sing every single part in this song?? ABSOLUTELY
It's also fun to confuse others by singing all lines and try to make others think it is a solo with song like these
It’s our version of Non-Stop
@@neelyiguess3376 omg yea
This is my favorite song. It's just ahhh- *_Andrew's voice_*
I think it’s so cool to see two totally different peoples take on the same person be exactly the same. This song is basically “Trina and Whizzer destroying Marvin w/ Mendel and Jason singing supportive backup” and I’m here for it. Im not in favor of chaos, but this I will tolerate.
it’s marvin destroying whizzed and trina.
OKAY I JUST WANTED TO RANT
whizzer and marvins relationship was way too toxic at the beginning to be a real relationship, I feel their characters have grown so much from beginning to end. marvin and whizzer are actually trying with their relationship because now they know what it feels like to not be with each other, and they don't want it to happen again.
whizzer, in the second act, now knew that sex wasn't everything. he started loving, like actually loving, instead of just throwing them away when the lust faded.
marvin knows that he can't control everything and isn't so greedy in the second act. he knows what loss feels like now, and that just made him open a gate. he feels more emotion than lust now. its great.
marvin and trina I don't think would ever work. (sorry thats just me)
There's a reason Marvin and Trina would never work well together (besides Marvin being gay).
They both, even with development, have a bit of an issue of not having control, and therefore needed a relationship with a person who wouldn't cave to their need for control.
That's why Mendel, a therapist, was great for Trina who felt as though her family was slipping away from her.
That's why Whizzer, a laid back but assertive man was perfect for Marvin who wanted to control his lovers into constantly being submissive. They both grew from being apart.
Well I would say while both are toxic it was Marvin's need to control everything and have everyone listen to him so losing everyone got him to realise that he can't control everyone but himself
"And still the bastard divirced me" YAAAAAAAASSSSS OMG FIRST TIME HEARING THE SOUNDTRACK AND DAMMNNN YOU GO GIRL
Why does nobody ever talk about 1:32 ? Marvin demands that someone love him, and gets shut down. He then practically begs them to love him (and says it much softer than the first time), and gets shut down again. Marvin then goes back to being aggressive, telling them to break his heart.
That’s what I love about this musical. Every single line has meaning and so does the way it’s said. It’s truly some of the best and most intricate writing and acting I’ve ever seen.
Tbh this is one of the reasons I think Marvin is an asshole, at least he is in Act 1. I think he got better in act 2 after he realized the world doesn't revolve around what He wants.
reminds me of the “leave me. love me. don’t be a fool. want me.” part of the thrill of first love
I don't know why I like this Musical but I do
*Questions my existence*
cause it slaps, next question
“This little thing that we have will not last” :,) I’m not crying u r
i mean... he didn’t lie?
@@alyssajade6802 NOOOOO
Whereas I agree the first half Marvin is a controlling ass, everyone also seems to gloss over whizzer's manipulative side in the first half. I think they both were afraid, insecure and toxic for one another at first. 🤷 I was happy when they figured it out. Then the ending 😭
2:04 that high note though
In the bootleg, she goes lower on the"and still the b divorced me". At first I was dissapointed, but honestly, she sounded extremely upset in the studio version, and very menacing, even on vocal rest. Love Steph, she's such a great rendition of Trina
They actually address that in "Falsettos: Side By Side". Stephanie had stated that the upper octave that was wanted didn't feel like "her" Trina. It's a very neat way of personalizing the character for her. (even though I love that part in this recording)
I lip synched so hard I gave myself a headache
BRO SAME
I had a braingasm, but headache works too.
I thought Whizzer was with Marvin during “Everyone Tells Jason To See A Psychiatrist?” So why Marvin is mad at Whizzer for not cooking dinner when he was with him, helping his child?
Honestly, it's Marvin..
@@weabuwu3830 the fact that this is a reasonable answer makes me sad
He's bastard man
I have an answer to this!
Marvin is very insecure about his sexuality. As evidenced by the fact that he sees a psychiatrist to try and change it. Meanwhile, his lover, Whizzer, is very secure in his. He’s also very “stereotypically gay”, especially for the 70s.
Because he’s feminine and flamboyant, Marvin tries to shove him into the role of “housewife” to convince himself he’s still attracted to women. This includes domestic acts (like making dinner), caring a lot about appearances (checking his hairline), and doing all of the emotional work in the relationship while Marvin refuses to open up (loving him).
Whizzer doesn’t want to fit into this role. He’s his own man. His own person. And this makes Marvin very angry.
@@lizzysutton5491 yeah I think whizzer was just there to say "part 1" "part2" and so on. It would make sense for marvin to go alone.
This was the first Falsettos song I heard. I was... Very confused.
Mine was either my fathers a homo/everyone tells Jason to see a psychiatrist or four Jews in a room I can’t remember
I was confuzzled bamboozled and quiet possibly bewildered
(( would continue tomorrow!!! hope to finish until sunday wiee))
I totally did not get in an argument with my friend over wether or not it says "Do you prefer Ilust for brains or money?" or "Do you think I lust for brains or money?" and I totally was not correct and I totally am not waiting for him to get out of school for me to prove that I was correct.... Totally.
Can we talk about how pretty this part is 2:04
Me: **peacefully attempting to graph triangles**

This is my favorite part because yes
Because Stephanie j block
I love this song! ! Thanks for doing this
This might be one of my favourite songs
I feel like this is my favorite song in the musical :D :3
curious abt something: the lines “do you prefer i lust for brains or money?” “brains. i’m not so rich but hell im smart” confuse me. because in thrill of first love marvin says “i was rich he was horny “ then whizzer “we fit like a glove”. so i’m confused, why is marvin now saying he never was rich? idk if this even makes sense but it’s always on my mind when i listen to the soundtrack
i feel like its sorta just an instance of marvin's ego showing; at some point he was definitely somewhat rich (ex: the line in thrill of first love when he brings it up) but he believes that he's smart to a point where it's more important or worth more than whatever money he has. marvin is super selfish and egotistical at this point in the show, belittling basically everyone but himself, so i think that this is just another instance that he's choosing to brag about himself. in his eyes, anyone can be rich, but you have to actually work to be smart, so he prides himself in the fact that he believes he's smart. i think most of the other characters don't see him as a genius, and trina even says so at one point, so they view him more for his money than his brain, but he definitely prides himself in his wits.
well i mean he said he /was/ rich.
decrease the speed to .75 for the chop chops
Are they late for dinner???
1:58
2:04
Wow Trina that was amazing
guys i think they might be late for dinner
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH OML
I’m actually obsessed with 2:30 to 2:40 pls help-
I love/hate Marvin's arrogance. Trina and Whizzer (this is an assumption so could be wrong) came from humble beginnings so when they met Marvin he had money maybe he wasn't rich but to them he was and to Marvin probably coming from a privileged home he probably didn't have as much money as the other people he grew up with and him thinking he was better than everyone makes him say "Brains I'm not so rich but hell I'm smart" while whizzer and Trina don't think he's smart because he's not maybe educationally wise sure but he isn't smart when it comes to people
Marvin does come from an somewhat privileged home albeit with negletcfull parents as he is mentioned to have had maids growing up in In Trousers
This song should have been named "This Had Better Come To an End" not stop.
Late for dinner, late again
Late for dinner, late again
Late for dinner, late again
Late for dinner, late, late, late, late
Late for dinner, late again
Late for dinner, late again
Late for dinner, late again
Late for dinner, late, late, late, late
Whizzer's supposed to always be here
Making dinner
Set to screw
That's what pretty boys should do
Check their hairlines
Make the dinner and love me
This is going nowhere and fast, Whizzer
This little thing that we have will not last
Don't feel responsible
After all it's through
I'm not responsible
Life can be wonderful
Isn't this wonderful?
And this had better come to a stop, Whizzer
Now, Whizzer
Ciao, Whizzer, bend
This had better come to an end
I was supposed to make the dinner
Make it pretty on his plate
Every wife should pull her weight
Have it ready
Make it tasty
And love him
This had better come to a stop doctor
This has been a tragic and horrible flop
Don't feel responsible
After all it's through
Who is responsible?
Don't ask me questions
I'm frightened of questions
But grateful that it's come to a stop, Trina
Smile, Trina
I'll help you mend
I met this man today
He wasn't very smart
But he was rich, Marvin
Which, Marvin, do you prefer I lust for?
Brains our money?
Brains, I'm not so rich
Brains out money?
But hell I'm smart
Love me
No
Love me, please
Or break my heart
This is all very neat (this is all very neat)
This is all very smart (this is all very neat, this is all very smart)
And this had better come to a stop, Mendel
Don't touch me!
Don't condescend
This had better come
This had better come to a
This, this, this, this
This had better come to an end
This had better come to an end
Chop, chop, chop, chop, chop
I choped it
I served his food the asshole forced me
Chop, chop, chop, chop, chop
Chop, chop, chop
And still the bastard divorced me!
Chop, chop, chop, chop, chop
Chop, chop, chop
Late for dinner, late again (it isn't like he said)
Late for dinner, late again (you probably hurt his pride)
Late for dinner, late again (he's gotta have it all)
Late for dinner, late again
Late (he's like a baby who's denied)
This had better come to a stop, Marvin
This has been a lousy but fabulous flop
Why is it always ourselves who have to change?
This is incredibly boring
You've got a temper that redefines temper
And this had better come to a stop, Marvin
Why, Marvin
Try, Marvin
Bend
This had better come
This had better come to a
This, this, this, this
This had better come to an end
This had better come to an end
This had better come to an end
