Great video! Well, I love them all! During vocal coaching I often tell people to stop trying so hard, and pretend you're singing to a baby (the quiet singing). Once they realize a song is "technically" within their range (at a "sing to a baby level"), they gain confidence and muscle coordination to improve in volume and control. It seems like a strange technique, but it's for real :) Thanks for another awesome video, Chuck!

Great comment Amy-Lyn and I often will say something like, sing to your baby in her crib and put her to sleep. I so agree with you. It really helps!

I think low voice helps only once you developed good vocals and dont want to hurt them unnecessarily during practice.

I've always had to practice quietly because i dont live alone. I still like to sing louder when i can just to know that i can if i have to but im glad to learn its actually good to practice quietly.

I have a LOT of problems with tension (don't have falsetto), and the highest note i could make without squeezing my throat was an F4 . After starting to learn the saxophone I noticed that the higher notes weren't louder, so I got the idea of practicing singing quietly, as quiet as I could, so long as I didn't tense any part of my neck or throat, and I would attempt to build proper closure before anything. It's been a week, and I just produced a non-tension good closure Bb4 for the first time since losing my falsetto, now I can't quite sing in this range yet, but it seems promising.
I was looking for information on this practice principle and I couldn't find anything until now, most I found on the internet said something along the lines of "you shouldn't practice quietly because it's harder, do it louder first" so the existence of this video is reassuring, as I didn't really wanna gamble on this as much as it made sense to me.

I and my vocal coach found that I should practice quietly. I found that it's hard to keep good closure from G3-A3, It's going into falsetto (I have a low voice like F#2 is my speaking note), so I'm gonna work to keep that closure nice and free.

@@PowerToSing Thanks Chuck. It does depend on what I'm singing tho. One if the songs I sing in my duo is "The House of the Rising Sun - The Animals" and the singer belts it out more on the higher notes and doesn't seem to work as well singing quietly.

@@geometric75 Remember J Blake. I'm talking about practicing to eliminate extrinsic muscles from gripping and hurting your sound. I'm not talking about performing it that way. But practice it enough to eliminate gripping. The gradually sing it louder as you are able to maintain a balance between the muscles of the vocal cords and the air flow. Power will come but without tension or grabbing.
