Music Lover I know what you mean, but it can be a very lonely place.Too many people are ok with wasting their lives away and for the one's who aren't everyone looks at you like you're crazy lol
These are the videos that I look forward to. I have recently scaled down from full-time employment to part-time employment so that I can devote more time and energy to growing my business. I will never work full-time for someone else again. I never could stand working 8 + hours a day for any employer. My goal is to be 100% financially self-sufficient before the end of 2016.
Good Luck to you too! After getting laid off from the full-time job I had back in October, I saw it as my opportunity for my next job to be part-time. I now work for a private school in a 2-person accounting department so I don't have to deal with any drama or trash talk.
I thought about it long and hard and decided to quit my job today after 8yrs. I feel so free and the stress of working at that job is gone. They've been pushing me and I tried to hold on until I found something else but This week was the final straw and I couldn't take it anymore. I needed this message, I'm thinking positive that things will work out. I need it to for my and my baby.
God gave everyone a gift. You have something on the inside of you that you want to do so bad, you'll do it for free. That's your calling, that's your company. I worked for a company and while I was increasing their net worth, it was then I said, if I could do it for them, what can't I do it for myself... self employed. #stepOutOnFAITH
+MAZELEE HEY! I'm a subscriber to your channel. Wow. I don't remember hearing about this in the vlogs. Although this might kind of explain why you said you don't know how you're gonna pay for your oldest daughters private schooling.
I work 10 to 12 hours a day...everyday.....and I hate it, but jobs are scarce in my area. I've watched a good number of these "quit your job" videos.....but money for rent, food, taking care of my daughter is not gonna fall out of the sky. Its not that I feel trapped... I am trapped.
OMG.. I Knew A Video For This Topic Was Coming Sooner or Later... 2016 is the year I'm walking away from this madness. I wasn't born to work 4 white ppl. A SPECIAL THANK U FOR THIS ONE DR. WATKINS!
+vicmo25 You're wrong. There is a big difference between taking money from an employer and taking money directly from the consumer. Also, she IS being the change that she talks about with what she said.
The Great Depression was considered one of the worst times in America's fiscal history. Unemployment hit a low at 33%. Currently, Black unemployment is at 51%. The 49% that are employed have to try their best to erase their ethnic identity, almost be apologetic for their presence and the skin they're in. Our children grow up in fatherless homes, lacking education of self and financial education. The self esteem of our young women has plummeted. Our icons prance around in thongs sending messages that our value is exclusively what's between our legs rather than what's between our ears. They are decietfully disguised as "feminists". But their lyrics are filled with Black woman put downs. Sometimes I wonder if their only sense of satisfaction comes from condescending the next woman. The misplaced rage leads women to tear each other down. Verbal brutality, because if one can tear another down then that's one less competitor in a race for the scarce and highly covetted Black man. Our men are in jail and the free ones have been so brainwashed that they're only attracted to women who look nothing like them. They make babies to not provide for and steal women's futures. Leaving our young queens unprotected. And creating a new generation of poverty. Then they wonder why we're angry. Our only attempt to escape poverty is to whore ourselves, raising kids by ourselves with no support. We drink and drug to escape our hopeless reality, while being bombarded with materialistic messages from the media. The black community is currently suffering the Great Depression and we're ignorantly hoping our historical oppressors will save us. Our leaders are failing us. They feel that empowering their people threatens their status. You are selling hope. To a generation of people who are so lost, so beaten down. You are serving as our dad, even if it's just online. Thank you Dr.Boyce Watkins and Mr.Dash. America needs more men like you. I'm definitely joining today.
What's really sad about erasing your ethnicity to gain employment is, there are some people who don't mind doing that and think they are not the actual ethnic identity they had to erase and bring about this "better than" attitude around their people until that pink slip hit their ass.
I really needed to see this. I feel like a slave working for someone else's goals and I can't get mine in order. I have such a fear of quitting my job because I'm young and feel I don't have the qualifications to be seen valuable to a company. I'm still trying to build up the courage. It's getting harder and harder to stay at my job.
I feel the same way. But both of us need to remember how important and possible it is to move on to fulfilling our goals. Never settle. Always aim higher. If we don't start making active moves to get out of where we are and onto a better path, we'll be here months later feeling the same way or worse.

I just quit my job to weeks ago. I have record studio eq, Fl studio for my Hip Hop music. Also have my workout equipment for MMA. I haven't been able to make music the way I use to though, and suffering from writers block. Caused by the stress of trying to fit in and work for these white people. I hate it and I'm tired of it.
One of the best videos ive saw over the past years . One of the few men that understands just because you get a job that might pay good or pay your bills doesn't have to mean its over, now work and retire or your crazy if you quit this job , you should owe your life to them. At the end of the day Do whats best for you
I happen to like what I do for a living, like the people I work with, and work for a good company but at the end of the day it is a job. They aren't loyal to me. I have to be loyal to me and my future. So having something of my own is the end game. I have owned a business of my own before and it was very rewarding and it was financilly successful, but what I was doing was really just buying my own job. So I know this next time around I have to structure things differently.
This is the school my daughter and I are gonna enroll in. She is 16 so better now than later she wants to own her own natural hair care process and products. She is amazing and I want to have a Mental Health Holistic aND Energetic Center with classes that teach each individual to harness their unlimited power, to build yourself and polish your mirror aND then extending that to your brother, your sister and the world. Let's go!
yes, i agree. 10 hours a day for corporate are a wasted life! i wish such a school would exist for egyptian-european people, not just for african-americans. but here in europe people dont show so much innovation as you guys in america do. the people here are very much about stick-to-the-rules and never-invent-something-new...
Dr. Watkins, I am so grateful for your channel. As an academic, I resonate with much of what you talk about. Inasmuch, I appreciate that you encourage folks to be responsible for their own learning. Many people don't realize that "self-directed learning" or learning through other channels can be as or more effective than learning in the classroom at a top tier college.
+Terence Hodges You're right. The issue with self-directed learning is when you're trying to compete in corporate america, students from top tier colleges get preferential treatment. I'm self taught in my trade and I've made it pretty far in my career. I'm at such a high level now that I compete with MBAs from top tier colleges. It's not even about talent or skill it's about senior management's willingness to co-sign you and a person from a top tier college makes them look like a better recruiter of talent. It's all a game.
+nightlifekingcom. I agree with you - it is all a game, but the initiative that you have taken to learn beyond the classroom will eventually come into play at the right moment. I am not discounting what you are saying because I am aware many employers tend to be partial to the "ivy" graduates; however, I know people who have borrowed more than a hundred thousand dollars to attend Booth (U of C) or Kellogg (NW) and while those credentials are impressive on paper, these people will likely die in student loan debt. At the end of the day, the question becomes: was it really worth it? I think and as Dr. Boyce often says, we (black folks) should create opportunities for ourselves. I'm starting to think more broadly about starting my own business in the hope that I can have more autonomy and freedom in what I want to do.
Terence Hodges You're right. At least once a week I contemplate getting a 200-300k student loan out to get a degree from a top school. But honestly, I'd rather take the skills I have now, get a 200k investment and build a great product/company.
I know that's right!! When I go to work I feel like I'm on lockdown, I'm sick of punching a timeclock...I really want to start my own business online or otherwise...just don't know how to go about it! So I will be checking your site out!
I wish I knew this much sooner, I've been at my job for 8+ yrs got promoted went to school to strive for an higher position. When school and work got overwhelming my job didn't even care that my goals matter. Now I'm working less days and can't afford school only loans and I'm fucked already. I should of just quick but I'm still trapped because I can't live without a check. Now I'm at work depressed and anger as ever. Thanks Dr. Boyce I will take this leap of freedom
He's right, im 22 years old and i run my own business, i call no man boss or in the words or dame "daddy" And now that i do own my own thing i couldnt fathom getting paid minimum wage and struggling and stressing to just fuckin survive in a world (usa) that'll have no problem screwing us over. Keep pushing the message. The ones that'll get it will get it
I have wanted to start my own business for a long time...started then stopped ....now I'm gonna go at this full force. my plan will take a little longer but I will do it
Dr. Boyce Watkins thank you so much for this video! I've been thinking about quitting my job since last year. This video of yours was a motivational push that i needed to see to run off the plantation that I'm chained to at the moment, lol. Thank you brotha for the inspirational advice. I'll be sure to check out your website today! God bless.
I took the opportunity during income tax time to use that money from my return to buy an ice cream truck and I sell water ice and pretzels off it. Where I'm from it sells quick. This is just a stepping stone for me to get the money to purchase property in my city. I am also helping my husband start his own tax business. I still work full time but I am working my way out of it pretty soon.
this man is doing well for himself and hes going out of his way and taking from his life to drop knowledge. and people will still try and shit on it. if u clicked on this video its because u have interest in leaving your job. stop be lazy and doing something to change ur circumstances
I'm in the process of building my businesses now and I'm claiming that I WILL BE 100% MY OWN BOSS BY THE END OF THIS YEAR! You just have to step out on faith, work hard, & it will all come together. I'm def signing up for your course Mr. Watkins. A huge thank you to you and one of my all time favs Mr. Dame Dash!!
You said it!!! Congrats, you will do well. And I'm right there with you. I'm taking an online class on the 15th to help build my website. Stepping 100% out on faith.
Thanks for this video. I am always thinking about making money and how to retire early but most people look at me like I am an alien as if they could care less about any of this stuff. As soon as you start making more money now they want to see what you are doing.
@Boyce Watkins Hold up a minute first you said u made millions of dollars then u said u still working to pay off student loans if u have made millions of dollars then why not pay the loan off
jskee79 just because he has made millions doesn't mean he has millions. He put a lot of money into his business. I agree though he probably should have paid the loans off
financialjuneteenth is basically the relation between the title of the article. It will give you the information/ability to quit your day job. Looks interesting at a glance, I can't wait to dissect info and delve deep into the site.
Become a Substitute Teacher. You have all the benefits you mentioned and you can assist in the enlightenment of our young aspirants toward higher scholarship.
If I could get back the money I spent on student loans I'd give back the degree! I would take the money pay all my bills off, invent in a home and jumpstart a new career! Even if I wanted to go back to school, I'm sure I could take some of that money and pay cash for it! Thats how much I owe in student loans. The field I chose I truly love but to work in it is a recipes for bad HEALTH! Thanks Mr. Watkins I would always refer to my job as the plantation and there were so many similarities it was scary!
College tuition IS bs, indeed. Very well worded, sir! I wish all of you who seek out new self-employed career paths luck! Everyone deserves to be able to live a debt-free/worry-free/comfortable life. It's most definitely much better to be your own boss rather than have some a-hole telling you what to do.
I invested in the BWB, and I'm looking forward to starting tomorrow. I currently have an MBA, and am working on a DBA, so I am very curious and anxious to see how I can combine what I currently have with what I learn in the BWB.
Manager: the job is 9 to 5, Monday to Friday - 35 hrs. A week. You: That's 40 hrs Manager: you get one hour lunch. You: I don't eat lunch, can I leave at four? Manager: no the hours are 9 to 5. You: So I'm giving you 40 hours of my time, and you are paying me for 35 hours? Manager: Next!
Your video is actually advocating that people pursue their dreams but they have to have an income. Network marketing is one of the ways of doing that. There are hundreds of opportunities out there that people should investigate. If the opportunitiy is lucrative and you have a mentor, that could be a viable alternative.
My professor in my ancient history course in college was a real cool African American man...old school guy and he was hilarious. Loved his class. This is directed more towards the people in the comments section as opposed to you, Mr. Watkins. Just wanted to say that attempting to build a business simply so you don't have to work for a "white" person is totally counterproductive and will almost ensure failure. Most people who build successful businesses do so simply because they don't want to have a boss. They want to be the boss. The president of the company I work for is Japanese. You won't see me walking off the job because I'm salty about Pearl Harbor...I'll walk off the job when it becomes a necessity for the continual growth of my business. The perpetual racism here isn't exactly mind blowing but it's a total shame that nobody wants to move forward from that mindset. There is much more to be gained through partnership than there is through the purposeful shunning of a potential business partner because he/she is white. I respect your efforts on this channel to empower people...Its just sad that of all the gems you speak on and all of the knowledge you have is indirectly bringing out racism in people.
He just mentioned his experience with racism, which I believe will be synonymous with the experience with other blacks U.S.A This is not about discriminating against other races, but sharing an experience that is real and unfortunately existing in our modern day. I never knew I was black, until I left for my vacation to another country. Did not know that word existed? only saw it in movies, because I come from a place, where everyone is equally yoked in the same race. Please also remember that this vlog might appeal to a particular audience.
I been in the corporate world for 5 yrs and I make really good money not to have a college degree but I hate what I do being in the corporate isn’t for me so I’m looking to transition out of the corporate world and setting myself up in o be my own BOSS
Hey Dr. Boyce! Huge fan! I wanted to ask if you could possibly make a RUclips video detailing the benefits and risks of filling bankruptcy? I had someone say a good way to get rid of student loans is to get a personal loan in the amount of the student loan then file bankruptcy. I wanted to gauge your thoughts on this. Also, how would acquiring an LLC factor into this? If you could answer these questions I would greatly appreciate it Dr. Watkins! Have a great day 😌
Dr. Watkins, are your classes for senior citizens who are on a fixed income and haven't a clue on what business to start or what businesses to invest in 2016?
FANTASTIC VIDEO FANTASTIC COMMENTS How many youtube videos where you see positive constructive replys? I've been on youtube since 06 and I will tell you there are abou 5. Maybe 6. Awesome take on employment.
Education is too expensive. I only learn 5% in the classroom. The 95% remaining is from me hitting the books and figuring it out on my own. So now a days I hit the line schedule, see what books that course takes, buy the books, and teach myself. I don't bother enrolling. For example, MIT Open Courseware is really good about making their stuff open to the public.

The ones that'll get it will get it
Boom!
agreed
What's your business? I'm 23 and I have a strong desire to start my own business but have so many ideas. Any suggestions on how to proceed?
I have wanted to start my own business for a long time...started then stopped ....now I'm gonna go at this full force. my plan will take a little longer but I will do it
Dr. Boyce Watkins thank you so much for this video! I've been thinking about quitting my job since last year. This video of yours was a motivational push that i needed to see to run off the plantation that I'm chained to at the moment, lol. Thank you brotha for the inspirational advice. I'll be sure to check out your website today! God bless.
I love this. I have the same mentality. So glad I found you Mr Watkins.
There's nothing wrong with having a job, as long as you love what you do.
step 1: JUST DO IT!!!
step 2: ???
step 3: done!
this man is doing well for himself and hes going out of his way and taking from his life to drop knowledge. and people will still try and shit on it. if u clicked on this video its because u have interest in leaving your job. stop be lazy and doing something to change ur circumstances
i dont want to learn business from someone like you anyway because i will serve everyone. period. regardless of skin color.
Thank You Dr. Watkins for all the great information! I am mexican but I'm really learning a lot about money and business! Thank You!
…And you get to know and find yourself! I've grown so much and have become very creative in the process!
Thank you Dr Boyce.
love the seeds you plant Dr. Watkins
it's about time someone started talking about this!!! I'm tired of working for the corporate plantation
+HouseWifeSnob Awesome! Congrats to you on taking the first step. It's scary but if the goals don't scare you they aren't big enough. You got this!
Thank you for all the video's you make for your followers.
Thanks for this video. I am always thinking about making money and how to retire early but most people look at me like I am an alien as if they could care less about any of this stuff. As soon as you start making more money now they want to see what you are doing.
I watch boyce watkins, but this is the kind of video that made me a subscriber
@Boyce Watkins Hold up a minute first you said u made millions of dollars then u said u still working to pay off student loans if u have made millions of dollars then why not pay the loan off
jskee79 just because he has made millions doesn't mean he has millions. He put a lot of money into his business. I agree though he probably should have paid the loans off
financialjuneteenth is basically the relation between the title of the article. It will give you the information/ability to quit your day job. Looks interesting at a glance, I can't wait to dissect info and delve deep into the site.
I was digging this until it became a commercial because I had already joined the site earlier in the day.
I like how the video started, then it turned into an ad plugging his business.
Great video Doctor thank you for all that you are doing.
thank you dr watkins!!!!!
I get paid tomorrow. Can't wait to sign up
I'm going to check out that black wealth boot camp. Excellent video Dr. Boyce!! Keep 'em coming! Shalom.
KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK BOYCE. I AM INSPIRED BY YOUR EXPERIENCES. THANKS FOR THIS DIRECTION YOU ARE PROVIDING
This video makes so much sense!
I'm definitely gonna subscribe to financial juneteenth. I definitely need to hear that.
I have to take these classes now!
I work as a freelance graphic designer but I'm hoping to quit my job by the end of this year to work full time.
I invested in the BWB, and I'm looking forward to starting tomorrow. I currently have an MBA, and am working on a DBA, so I am very curious and anxious to see how I can combine what I currently have with what I learn in the BWB.
thank you for your motivation
It's not that i hate my job I want to do more for myself.
You are a Godsend! Thank you! 👍👌✌️
Great video. Basic life skills..
Manager: the job is 9 to 5, Monday to Friday - 35 hrs. A week.
You: That's 40 hrs
Manager: you get one hour lunch.
You: I don't eat lunch, can I leave at four?
Manager: no the hours are 9 to 5.
You: So I'm giving you 40 hours of my time, and you are paying me for 35 hours?
Manager: Next!
Well said, Kelly Lynch.
I love this video everything you said was on point.
Great info Dr B
Your video is actually advocating that people pursue their dreams but they have to have an income. Network marketing is one of the ways of doing that. There are hundreds of opportunities out there that people should investigate. If the opportunitiy is lucrative and you have a mentor, that could be a viable alternative.
Dr. Watkins... thank you for sharing. can you recommend some books for learning the stock market and entrepreneurship?
IN GERMANY YOU CAN GO TO UNIVERSITY FOR FREE.
I've been waiting on this topic I was actually going to make a video asking about this
I'm not black but value your advice.
I respect your efforts on this channel to empower people...Its just sad that of all the gems you speak on and all of the knowledge you have is indirectly bringing out racism in people.
do u feel ur japanese boss is racist towards u a white man? probably not...however many blacks feel racism from their white bosses.....
Online learning doesn't compensate for interacting with a professor personally.
I been in the corporate world for 5 yrs and I make really good money not to have a college degree but I hate what I do being in the corporate isn’t for me so I’m looking to transition out of the corporate world and setting myself up in o be my own BOSS
I keep saying that I'm going to turn my extra room into an office so I can work my business..but I don't have any ideal how I'm going to start it!
I love the term "Corporate Plantation". Good stuff.
Great video brother.
so i should quit my job and follow you?
Hey Dr. Boyce!
Watkins! Have a great day 😌
+WallyWest Interesting points...I love the way you think!!!!
I love what you stand for
Dr. Watkins, are your classes for senior citizens who are on a fixed income and haven't a clue on what business to start or what businesses to invest in 2016?
Thank you
" I can't be anymore honest with you than I've been "
......Yes you can......
Dr. Watkins, you should sell ads like everyone else on RUclips!
So true, so true!!
promised myself2016 I would sign up for these classes!!!
Dr. Boyce, I am interested in joining the school. How do I go about it? You have a link? And are you located in Philly?

How many youtube videos where you see positive constructive replys?
I've been on youtube since 06 and I will tell you there are abou 5. Maybe 6.
Awesome take on employment.
Education is too expensive. I only learn 5% in the classroom. The 95% remaining is from me hitting the books and figuring it out on my own. So now a days I hit the line schedule, see what books that course takes, buy the books, and teach myself. I don't bother enrolling. For example, MIT Open Courseware is really good about making their stuff open to the public.
