    The Great Depression was considered one of the worst times in America's fiscal history. Unemployment hit a low at 33%. Currently, Black unemployment is at 51%.
    The 49% that are employed have to try their best to erase their ethnic identity, almost be apologetic for their presence and the skin they're in. Our children grow up in fatherless homes, lacking education of self and financial education.
    The self esteem of our young women has plummeted. Our icons prance around in thongs sending messages that our value is exclusively what's between our legs rather than what's between our ears. They are decietfully disguised as "feminists". But their lyrics are filled with Black woman put downs. Sometimes I wonder if their only sense of satisfaction comes from condescending the next woman.The misplaced rage leads women to tear each other down. Verbal brutality, because if one can tear another down then that's one less competitor in a race for the scarce and highly covetted Black man.
    Our men are in jail and the free ones have been so brainwashed that they're only attracted to women who look nothing like them. They make babies to not provide for and steal women's futures. Leaving our young queens unprotected. And creating a new generation of poverty. Then they wonder why we're angry.
    Our only attempt to escape poverty is to whore ourselves, raising kids by ourselves with no support. We drink and drug to escape our hopeless reality, while being bombarded with materialistic messages from the media.
    The black community is currently suffering the Great Depression and we're ignorantly hoping our historical oppressors will save us. Our leaders are failing us. They feel that empowering their people threatens their status.
    You are selling hope. To a generation of people who are so lost, so beaten down. You are serving as our dad, even if it's just online. Thank you Dr.Boyce Watkins and Mr.Dash. America needs more men like you. I'm definitely joining today.

    • @leoluvv-vr3lj
      @leoluvv-vr3lj 8 лет назад +2

      What's really sad about erasing your ethnicity to gain employment is, there are some people who don't mind doing that and think they are not the actual ethnic identity they had to erase and bring about this "better than" attitude around their people until that pink slip hit their ass.

If we don't start making active moves to get out of where we are and onto a better path, we'll be here months later feeling the same way or worse.

One of the few men that understands just because you get a job that might pay good or pay your bills doesn't have to mean its over, now work and retire or your crazy if you quit this job , you should owe your life to them. At the end of the day Do whats best for you

    I happen to like what I do for a living, like the people I work with, and work for a good company but at the end of the day it is a job. They aren't loyal to me. I have to be loyal to me and my future. So having something of my own is the end game. I have owned a business of my own before and it was very rewarding and it was financilly successful, but what I was doing was really just buying my own job. So I know this next time around I have to structure things differently.

    Dr. Watkins, I am so grateful for your channel. As an academic, I resonate with much of what you talk about. Inasmuch, I appreciate that you encourage folks to be responsible for their own learning. Many people don't realize that "self-directed learning" or learning through other channels can be as or more effective than learning in the classroom at a top tier college.

    • @nightlifeking
      @nightlifeking 8 лет назад

      +Terence Hodges You're right. The issue with self-directed learning is when you're trying to compete in corporate america, students from top tier colleges get preferential treatment. I'm self taught in my trade and I've made it pretty far in my career. I'm at such a high level now that I compete with MBAs from top tier colleges. It's not even about talent or skill it's about senior management's willingness to co-sign you and a person from a top tier college makes them look like a better recruiter of talent. It's all a game.

    • @terence4427
      @terence4427 8 лет назад

      +nightlifekingcom. I agree with you - it is all a game, but the initiative that you have taken to learn beyond the classroom will eventually come into play at the right moment. I am not discounting what you are saying because I am aware many employers tend to be partial to the "ivy" graduates; however, I know people who have borrowed more than a hundred thousand dollars to attend Booth (U of C) or Kellogg (NW) and while those credentials are impressive on paper, these people will likely die in student loan debt. At the end of the day, the question becomes: was it really worth it? I think and as Dr. Boyce often says, we (black folks) should create opportunities for ourselves. I'm starting to think more broadly about starting my own business in the hope that I can have more autonomy and freedom in what I want to do.

    • @nightlifeking
      @nightlifeking 8 лет назад

      Terence Hodges You're right. At least once a week I contemplate getting a 200-300k student loan out to get a degree from a top school. But honestly, I'd rather take the skills I have now, get a 200k investment and build a great product/company.

    financialjuneteenth is basically the relation between the title of the article. It will give you the information/ability to quit your day job. Looks interesting at a glance, I can't wait to dissect info and delve deep into the site.

    If I could get back the money I spent on student loans I'd give back the degree! I would take the money pay all my bills off, invent in a home and jumpstart a new career! Even if I wanted to go back to school, I'm sure I could take some of that money and pay cash for it! Thats how much I owe in student loans. The field I chose I truly love but to work in it is a recipes for bad HEALTH! Thanks Mr. Watkins I would always refer to my job as the plantation and there were so many similarities it was scary!

    College tuition IS bs, indeed. Very well worded, sir!
    I wish all of you who seek out new self-employed career paths luck! Everyone deserves to be able to live a debt-free/worry-free/comfortable life. It's most definitely much better to be your own boss rather than have some a-hole telling you what to do.

    Manager: the job is 9 to 5, Monday to Friday - 35 hrs. A week.
    You: That's 40 hrs
    Manager: you get one hour lunch.
    You: I don't eat lunch, can I leave at four?
    Manager: no the hours are 9 to 5.
    You: So I'm giving you 40 hours of my time, and you are paying me for 35 hours?
    Manager: Next!

    Your video is actually advocating that people pursue their dreams but they have to have an income. Network marketing is one of the ways of doing that. There are hundreds of opportunities out there that people should investigate. If the opportunitiy is lucrative and you have a mentor, that could be a viable alternative.

    My professor in my ancient history course in college was a real cool African American man...old school guy and he was hilarious. Loved his class. This is directed more towards the people in the comments section as opposed to you, Mr. Watkins. Just wanted to say that attempting to build a business simply so you don't have to work for a "white" person is totally counterproductive and will almost ensure failure. Most people who build successful businesses do so simply because they don't want to have a boss. They want to be the boss. The president of the company I work for is Japanese. You won't see me walking off the job because I'm salty about Pearl Harbor...I'll walk off the job when it becomes a necessity for the continual growth of my business. The perpetual racism here isn't exactly mind blowing but it's a total shame that nobody wants to move forward from that mindset. There is much more to be gained through partnership than there is through the purposeful shunning of a potential business partner because he/she is white. I respect your efforts on this channel to empower people...Its just sad that of all the gems you speak on and all of the knowledge you have is indirectly bringing out racism in people.

      do u feel ur japanese boss is racist towards u a white man? probably not...however many blacks feel racism from their white bosses.....

    • @drumbeatsofify1465
      @drumbeatsofify1465 6 лет назад +1

      He just mentioned his experience with racism, which I believe will be synonymous with the experience with other blacks U.S.A This is not about discriminating against other races, but sharing an experience that is real and unfortunately existing in our modern day. I never knew I was black, until I left for my vacation to another country. Did not know that word existed? only saw it in movies, because I come from a place, where everyone is equally yoked in the same race. Please also remember that this vlog might appeal to a particular audience.

    Hey Dr. Boyce! Huge fan!
    I wanted to ask if you could possibly make a RUclips video detailing the benefits and risks of filling bankruptcy?
    I had someone say a good way to get rid of student loans is to get a personal loan in the amount of the student loan then file bankruptcy. I wanted to gauge your thoughts on this.
    Also, how would acquiring an LLC factor into this? If you could answer these questions I would greatly appreciate it Dr. Watkins! Have a great day 😌

    Education is too expensive. I only learn 5% in the classroom. The 95% remaining is from me hitting the books and figuring it out on my own. So now a days I hit the line schedule, see what books that course takes, buy the books, and teach myself. I don't bother enrolling. For example, MIT Open Courseware is really good about making their stuff open to the public.
