Ideas, ideas, ideas. ERNEST isn't one of those songwriters who has a single strength, or is keen on addressing just one scenario. When you roll through the 26 tracks on his new 'NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE,' you notice lots of shifts in tone, and plenty of change-ups when it comes to sound. Variety is at heart of the album, and it strongly suggests that the country upstart behind "Flower Shops," now on his fourth album, has a million things on his mind when it comes time to put pen to paper. Or maybe make that voice to mic. Twang tunes, bounce and swing, a bit of trickle-down rap, a glossy synth here or there - no pigeonholes for this dude. Which is why his audience keeps growing. Guess that growth is what happens when you're a writer on seven chart-topping hits by heroes such as Kane Brown and Morgan Wallen, and nominated in the Artist-Songwriter of the Year category at the 2024 ACMs. He recently told Billboard that 'NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE' is a blend of influences that's "definitely going back to the '40s, '50s, '60s, all the way to the present day." He brought a classic Western Swing vibe to his "One More Heartache" performance. Bob Wills would be proud. And the fiddle and acoustic guitars on "Never Said I Love You" has its own front porch vibe. One last thing about variety. Be one the lookout - he's got an update of Snoop's "Gin & Juice" on the way.
