- You first saw this digital output on my "Kenny's Christmas 2020" show back in January and today, I bring you the unboxing and installation of the unit. I would like to point out that this is a custom job for installing the Wixey saw fence digital readout on a SawStop, 3HP Professional Cabinet saw. While some of the installation may pertain to other saws, this video concentrates on the installation on a SawStop. I hope you enjoy the show.
If you haven't already, please consider liking and subscribing to the channel. While you are at it, don't forget to click the bell so that you don't miss future episodes of the program. Just finished the install on my new SawStop ICS. I want to thank you for showing us how you mounted it on your saw. The install was exactly the same on the ICS. The included instructions have a lot to be desired as they took some concentration to follow. I guess I was spoiled with the SawStop Instructions manual. Now I hold everything to their standards!
Glad that you found the video to be useful Scott. I hope you enjoy your new digital output. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
Thanks buddy, saved me a bunch of grief sorting out how to get this done.
You're very welcome Wil. Thanks for tuning in and good luck on your installation.
One of the slickest attachments I've seen! Seemed fairly simple to modify (if necessary) as well. Thanks, Kenny! I may have to snag one of those for myself. Be well. :-)
I'm hoping it lives up to my expectations of it Norm. I've been looking at this one for a very long time. Thanks for tuning in to the show this week.
Found my jointer offset guides on my Jessem Mastr-II fence, now time to upgrade my Delta 36-725T2.
I hope the upgrade works for you. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
Been waiting to see this since your Christmas show. Thanks for you open and honest review of the installation and calibrations, Looking forward to seeing this in action. Looks to be a great addition.
I hoping that this will prove to be a great addition Wayne. I will be sure to report back after I'd had the chance to put it through it's paces. Thanks for tuning in to the show this week.
Kenny, neat addition to your saw. Like you I hate having to modify stuff to get it to fit. I have the Wixley Angle Gauge and really like it. Looking forward to hearing about the long term accuracy.
I have high expectations of this unit Paul. I just hope it lives up to them. Thanks for tuning in to the show sir.
Fun to watch because you were obviously so excited with it. (As you should be.) Enjoy your new “toy.”
Thanks Jim. I do love me some new tools and new gadget. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
I finished installing mine about a month ago and love it but WARNING be very careful with the LCD area as I ruined my first by stupidly putting the fence end on it while I was swapping blade sides. I've added a little piece of thick acrylic to protect the flexible window on the replacement (at my cost of course). I want another for me dropsaw somehow.
Oh no. Sorry to hear about the readout. I'm glad that you were able to get it replaced and it sounds like you have a good system to protect it now. I will be careful. Thanks for tuning in and taking the time to chime in with your advice.
First time have ever seen this product. A best for sure. Long time Subscriber, first to post.
Cheers,
Glad that you liked it. Thanks for tuning in and for taking the time to leave your comment.
Kenny, I have been using the Wixey Digital Readout for my Planer for about 2 years. Works perfect, but replacing batteries requires a new calibration. I would not want to be without it.
Not sure I want to tackle the install. Planer was a snap.
This install was so bad Steve. I've had a lot worse. I hope that this table saw readout has the same results as the planer readout. I guess time will tell. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
Great job and video. Thanks!
Glad that you liked it. Thanks for tuning in and for the kind words. It's appreciated.
What is the tool that is on the top of your fence?
The tool you are asking about is the Jessem Table Saw Clear Cut Stock Guides which act as both a hold down and a feather board when ripping stock or cutting sheet goods. They are pretty spectacular. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
The concept is great but the readout is still digital not fractional. Are you using a conversion chart to look up 1/64 = 0.015 etc.?
On the contrary Lou. This gauge is digital yes, but the fractional values are displayed on the right hand side of the screen. If you look at the video at the 16:54 mark, you will see that the measurement on the display is listed as 3.375 but on the right hand side of the display, it also shows 3/8". No need to use any conversion at all. I hope this clear it up. Thanks for tuning in and for taking the time to leave a comment. It's truly appreciated.
Nice job! Does it keep calibration if you had it set at 1", turned it off and moved it to 4" and turned it back on, will it read 1" or 4"?
It keeps it's calibration. It will read 4" once you turn it back on. I hope this answers your question Eddie. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
I think that must be the first time that I have ever heard someone describe table saw accessories as 'Sexy' 🤣 Maybe a cold shower would help. Great show, as usual, Kenny and a great installation. Well done 👍👍
There are plenty of sexy things in the shop Cliff. Maybe I just need to get out more. LOL. Thanks for tuning in sir.
I’ve watched several videos on the installation of the Wixey on the Saw Stop saw and the used the supplied brackets. Why did you choose to modify the attachment of the guide? I do like the tapping for 1/4 20 bolts so I am up for that. Thanks Patrick
The installation with the supplied brackets just seemed like a very insecure installation. The drilling and tapping of the rail made for a much more streamlined installation that was dead solid. It's all a matter of personal preference here. I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
@@acutabove_woodworkings thanks for the quick reply and I agree with your method, my main concern is that you have to be dead accurate on your setting of holes as there is no adjustments. I just clamped the guide to the rail and will watch your video again.
@@keg1dog Good luck with your installation.
Thanks for the encouragement the installation went well, the unit had a tear on the copper strip on the track side. I contacted Wixey and they said it was there to aid static discharge and the unit has two of them and to remove the damaged strip. They also offered to replace the unit no charge. So far I am impressed with the accuracy of the readout. Again thanks.
@@keg1dog Glad to hear it went well. I'm only too glad to help. Thanks for the update.
Nice Video! I have an Incra TS - LS fence on my Rigid 4512 Table saw it is very accurate and is based on 32 seconds of an inch. I think in terms of Thousands of inches instead of imperial fractional measurements.
on my Dewalt 735 I had a Wixey DRO however changed it to an Igauge model of the DRO. And it works very nicely on my planner.
I am going to look into the Wixey to see if it can be used with my system.
I hope it's compatible for you. Thanks for tuning in to the show and taking the time to chime in with your experiences with the gauges. It's appreciated.
Not long ago I saw your review of a dowel centering jig. I bought the jig and it works great for me. Today I watched your installation of the Wixey digital fence readout. It looks like you’ve had this for 6+ months. What’s your opinion now? Btw your vid’s are great
Thanks for the kind words on the channel Harley. I've had this for quite a bit longer than 6 months as the show is pre-recorded. Either way, I still use it all the time but I find that you have to be a little cautious as things like static or sliding your fence to quickly can alter your measurements on the readout but increments of .20". I find that I have to zero out the readout from time to time to ensure its accuracy. I still think it's a worth while installation but I would like it more if I didn't have to zero it out from time to time. I hope this helps. thanks for tuning in to the show.
I have been using on of these units for about 6 or 7 years and have been very pleased with it.
I have no issues other than rather a short battery life, mine uses a watch battery which I never seem to have on hand, I just ordered a replacement readout that uses AAA batterie's and will solve that problem. I primarily use the readout for cutting segments for segmented wood turning and rely on the repeatability of the unit. Which is excellent. A good addition to any shop
Glad to hear that you've had good experiences with it John. I've heard that it can go out of calibration by .2 inches from time to time. I guess I will find out soon enough. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
Great, honest and complete review! (guess it would be fair to say that this product "measures up!") Thank you and stay healthy!
I'm hoping that after I have a chance to put this unit through its paces, I can report back with a proper review. Thanks for tuning in to the show and taking the time to leave the kind words. It's truly appreciated.
Great show , as always a very good job . Enjoy your shows keep it up and thanks .
Thanks for the kind words Mike. glad to hear that you enjoy the show. Thanks for tuning in.
Yup, I ended up tapping the beam as the self drilling heads just made a mess.
I figured they might. I'm not a fan of self tapping screws. You are much better off drilling and tapping it and using some bolts. Thanks for tuning in and chiming in with your experience with the installation.
I’ve had this on my Saw Stop for a couple of years and really like it. Even used it to layout locations of fret slots on guitar fret board cutting jig because of the precision available.
Glad to hear that you like it James. I've heard that it is common for the unit to lose calibration by .2 or .4. Have you had any issues with that? Either way, thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your experience. I appreciate it.
@@acutabove_woodworkings I haven’t noticed and loss of calibration, but I do re-zero on a regular basis when doing critical cuts to account for blade changes or other activities that may have impacted calibration.
@@jamesmerideth6305 Good to know. Thanks for the input sir.
