We had an Irish setter when I was growing up. I don't know that I 100% agree with them not being good guard dogs. As far as a typical guard dog protecting property, yes you will be better off with another breed. But our female setter "Mia" was super protective of my 2 brothers and I. Our mailman "Tom" was a family friend he called us Huey,Lewis, and Dewey and would shoot rubber bands at us if we were playing in the yard when he came by. On two occasions he was forced to pepper spray our dog because it had attacked him thinking he was hurting us. Tom felt terrible about having to do it,but as far as a guard dog, NOBODY was coming into our yard and messing with that dogs boys.
Had one called Rufus growing up, he was awesome he chased away a burglar saved me as a baby from an attack from another dog and was one of the most Loyal dogs I’ve had.
Does your Irish Setter like being left alone? 🐶🐶🐶 Do they make good outdoor dogs or do they just like to stay inside close to your family? Let us know in the comments.
I have a 9 year old Irish Setter and he’s an absolute angel. He’s 27” tall and 95lbs. No matter how wild and crazy he was as a puppy, he’s never been aggressive with my kids (who were 2 and 4 when we got him as a puppy). Extremely docile and patient, even when he was an energetic monster before we trained him. I will always have at least one of these dogs in my home. Would never want to live without one, they are the best and have ruined me for any other type of pet. And, my boy has never had any health problems so it shows if you get a professional and responsible breeder, a purebred dog can be incredibly healthy.
I agree. Irish setters were my dream dog, and a couple of months ago I was able to find a responsibly bred, affordable liter of irish setters. Best dog I've ever had. Received potty training quicker than any dog I've ever had. Easiest to train. Even my golden, who was pretty sweet, couldn't measure up to the intelligence of the Irish Setter. I've had Goldens, vizslas, beagles, and all of them were sweet (especially my vizsla, I miss him every day) but intelligence, trainability, house breaking success, cannot measure up to my Irish Setter. I'm saddened by the loss of my Vizsla, but in a way, it helped me discover the beauty, intelligence, and sweetness of Irish Setter. Truly the most beautiful breed ever.
I love the breed got one lying beside me right now. Gentle and sweet there is nothing better than the love of an Irish ☘️ my heart is completely full. They are always a work in progress and you need to be committed to their happiness. But such rewards are abound when you share your life with one. 💚☘️🇳🇬
Ive had three wonderful and beautiful Irish Setter males. Spanning nearly 30 years of my lifetime. They are definitely a handful as pups but the payoff is one of the most loyal, loving and gentle companions one could ask for. I lost my last one five months back to cancer. There is not a day goes by I'm not thinking of and missing him. I will get another someday as I can't imagine not having an Irish Setter in our lives.
I have 2 is now. I've had them since I've fallen in love with them when I was in 8th grade in 1970 something. Although I love both the big and small, I prefer the larger one. The hunting ones can be very stubborn and supper hyper. Yes I did fall in love with them when I read a book and the family had one and then after seeing Big Red the movie, that just sealed it.
I’m currently reading a book called “The Stand” written by Stephen King. Theirs an Irish Setter dog in the book. A pretty big character at that. His name is Kojak, and he’s a good boy!
Irish ☘️ setter dogs 🐕 are light to dark brown colour. Aren’t they sweet? Perhaps 🤔 Irish ☘️ setter dogs 🐕 come from Ireland 🇮🇪. In the past, I’ve met Irish ☘️ setter dogs 🐕. When Irish ☘️ setter dogs 🐕 become very frail and old, they suffer and have to be taken to the vets to be put to sleep 🛌 😴 💤 such as death 💀 ☠️ because it’s cruel to keep them alive while they suffer and I agree ☝️ with that. 👍
We have had many Irish red setters,, Mike, Gaelic, Ruá,, Gaelic, and now Ruá, my wife's favorite color. Now that they are not as popular let's hope back yard beaders stop. That's what is the issue.
Jake, my Irish Setter used to escape the yard and run over to the elementary school playground when he heard the kids playing, three blocks away. He'd go in and play with the kids, who loved him. I'd get phone calls from the Principal a lot. "We got Jake again."
@@jiljilrojamani526 oh, in Slovakia retrievers are very popular, too, in fact I have a three months old gr puppy, and there are hundreds of breeders. I’m not a dog person at all, it was my family’s choice. If the choice was on me, I would pick one of the setters, however there are not many breeders here, too. In Slovakia we also have regulations on the “dangerous” breeds, so a dane would be harder to purchase.
@@tomato_6681 in india there are no such ban ...we can have anything...pitbulls and American bully's are being purchased alot these days Lots & lots of beagles, pugs and Labradors ....due to inbreeding ( sister-brother , mother - son) these dogs have less life span and have obesity issues ...which is very sad :(
@@jiljilrojamani526 yeah, we had a problem with this in Romani neighbourhoods or slums or how I should call it, they beat the dogs, they didn’t give them food, they were held on a tight chain etc., there were a lot of stray dogs that interbred uncontrollably, so we recently passed a bill that dog is not a thing and for keeping them in inhumane conditions and breeding them illegaly you can get a jailtime. They are also microchipped, so lost dogs could be recognised (it’s like their ID card). Also, our president bought a black lab a while ago :)

#2 is absolutely true. My setter greets everyone who comes in the door like she's known them for her entire life.

Setanta could put his paws on my shoulders, I'm 6'. 2".
Mine passed away a couple weeks ago and lived for 16 years, 15 with me. Miss u so much my Simon

I'm Irish and Irish setters are so beautiful and soulful
I knew an Irish setter when I was kid named Shannon! I loved that dog. Such a beautiful dog.
Irish setters are my dream dog, I've been wanting one for over 3 years now and I've only now been able to start saving up for one :)))
When you finally adopt him call him Finbar. That is a great Irish name.

I’ve had Irish Setters for 40 years, always 2 sometimes 3...and lots of exercise!
Happy to see my picture used ❤️

I just saw the most beautiful...no GORGEOUS dog I’d ever seen today. I didn’t even know what breed it was. I asked. Irish Setter!
They really are beautiful dogs. And they have that gorgeous red coat.
I love my girl rua, she's 2. Best dogs in the world. So smart and loyal. Very gentle with our little baby tot too. I want to get another 🙊
Love the name. Very fitting 😊
I have a GUARDING Irish Setter 😂😂😂
So rare to see them now. Growing up we had 3, including one we that lived like 17 years; he grew to be a totally elderly dog. Totally sweet dogs.
I have raised 10 Irish Setter over 60 years.

Is it bad that I even said "aww" when I saw the setter mascot at 2:45? Lol

Is it possible to train a Red Irish Setter. She is now 1 year old and runs on a tummy full of Duracell batteries. Allan Dawsob
loves saying irish sedder
I have two Irish Setters. One is an old Irish Setter the other is 2 years old
Many gun dog breeds have a field strain and show strain; both will be good dogs, my experience is the field strains are smarter and easier to train.
ive a irish setter cross golden retriever pup and two older german shepards and shes just as good a gaurd dog as them because she copys them
Omg that must be a beautiful dog
Cute!
