I had a unique experience at one of Rich's concerts on a hot late summer night back in the early '90's at Six Flags in St. Louis. We had season tickets that year, and we took the kids up for a full day and for the concert at night. At that point in the year I was just about "Six Flagged" out, so we ate an early meal and went into the amphitheater a couple of hours early to relax. Maybe a dozen other people had the same idea. Rich and the Ragamuffin Band came out for sound check, and as he started playing, those of us there started singing along. Instead of just playing a few bars, Rich started playing whole songs as we sang along. In the intro to one song, he said "I've never had this much fun a a sound check!". He probably did 8-10 whole songs that way. It was like having a an intimate worship session, because that is what it was. I still miss the guy.
Rich Mullins was a part of a group called Zion out of Cincinnati Ohio in the late 70's and early 80's. This group came to our youth group and did a few retreats. He actually came to our high school and did a concert. Some of the students heckled him. Rich's response was amazing. He courageously loved us, preached and sang those beautiful songs God gave him. What an example of Jesus. I am grateful for those times. It's a testament of God's timeless love and truth that this song is being played today on the radio by Shane and Shane. I believe what I beleive ....
Back in '89 I was going to a mid-level USMC officer's school. So many challenges...and learned to sing and cry and worship God with my whole spirit and sould and body...thank you Jesus for this man's life, and music, on this ball. Thank you for your redemption and salvation and help in the here and now, too.
I too was going through some very difficult things in early 90's, traveling between Houston & Dallas every week for about a year and during that time, I wore out his "Songs" album and to this day, when I hear Creed or Sometimes by Step, I get emotional and it takes me back to when Father carried me through the storm.
Rich was a gift from God to remind us of His love for us. As much as I rejoice that he's with God, I selfishly wish God would have left him with us a little longer.
For anyone who wondered - Rich died on September 20, 1997. So this was toward the end of his earthly life, but not his final performance. Such a amazing talent from God and a recognition of the One who gave him his gifts.
It's a delight to see him playing the dulcimer. And this song is a beautiful gift to us from Rich. We'll meet one day, brother. I will look forward to hearing you play that instrument live. :D
I heard this song on the Inner Life on Relevant Radio, which had a three-part series on the Creed. This song is great in singing what we believe and what it means to us.
He was so good at playing that dulcimer! I had not seen anyone else play that instrument before him back in 1995 and haven't seen anyone else ever since. RIP Rich! 😢
@Iluv Merengue, there’s a whole worldwide community of us who play the dulcimer.🤗 This is the hammered dulcimer. The mountain dulcimer looks similar to a guitar, and is usually played on the lap.
See you in eternity, Rich! I can’t wait to look you in the eye and thank you personally if I make it. By the grace of God, I hope I will. Thank you brother, you are asleep but the Word of God is alive and still speaking to us through your songs. Thank you.
You will know you are destined into eternity with Christ when you are born again in Christ. You must have His Spirit to enter into His eternal presence. Love in Christ.
He is sufficient for you. God's Got You. Your Christian life is not based on your performance it's based on HIS. Believe it! Just like Rich Mullins sang in this song, "I did not make it, no it is making me" Godspeed my friend
he still is. he actually feared and loved the Most high who revealed himself through Jesus Christ (Yeshua Ho'Moshiach) and was not in it for the money and fame
Wish there was sheet music or sound tracks out there for Rick Mullins songs. Not that anyone could do them justice but they need to be sung again and again for generations who may not have heard of Rich. We've searched for them but can't find any. Having his songs in your heart, it would be awesome to be able to sing them.
Love you both:) They're like brothers, best friends, father and son (Rich was like a protective father and role model to EVERY one he knew/met) - I can only imagine how deep the scars are for Mitch surviving the accident without Rich - I'm sure Rich is so proud that he's still sharing God's word & music-Hope to see you in NY soon!
I loved it! Not many lead singers will pull that off so well. He was truly God's masterpiece and shared his artistry with all of us for the glory of the Father.
Out of all who passed away in the 90s, I can't seem to get over Rich Mullins and O'landa Draper the most, MAN do I miss them and I wish we'd see what they'd come up with today. But the hope of heaven remains!
I bet if Rich Mullins was still alive today he might have a signature line of Hammered Dulcimers. That’s one of several instruments I wanna learn to play when I’m ready to start my music career. I’m good at singing Death Metal and I’m planning on learning bass and having 2 bassists, 2 guitarists, a drummer, a keyboardist and a hammered dulcimer player for extra creativity. I might play hammered dulcimer in another band.
Rich Mullins \ Creed I believe in God the Father almighty Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son, our Lord He was conceived by the Holy Spirit Born of the virgin Mary Suffered under Pontius Pilate He was crucified and dead and buried CHORUS: And I believe what I believe Is what makes me what I am I did not make it, no it is making me It is the very truth of God and not The invention of any man I believe that He who suffered Was crucified, buried, and dead He descended into hell and On the third day, rose again He ascended into Heaven where He sits at God's mighty right hand I believe that He's returning to Judge the quick and the dead Of the sons of men CHORUS I believe it, I believe it I believe it I believe it, I believe it I believe in God the Father almighty Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son, Our Lord I believe in the Holy Spirit One Holy Church, the communion of Saints The forgiveness of sin I believe in the resurrection I believe in a life that never ends CHORUS I believe it, I believe I believe it, I believe I believe it, I believe it
I hope people get what Rich was saying in these lyrics. He had been through RCIA twice and was embracing the ancient Catholic faith... joining us in proclaiming the creed. RIP Rich... see you soon. Pray for us.
Rich Mullins said Christian music is a supplement and not a replacement for Christian life. I agree. His song is packed with pure Christian thought. But it is not a reading of Matthew.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but he can't pray for you. He's dead. It's a sad tragedy that this world is now without such an awesome heart and musician for God. However, there's nothing the supports that the dead can pray for us. He's rejoicing with the angels right now and we should rejoice for him until we get to rejoice with him.
You're not a jerk at all. "The dead" are alive (as you correctly know ... or Rich would not be "rejoicing with the Angels"). In Christ Jesus, we are all brothers who love each other, so it's reasonable that we would want to pray for each other. Same with our brothers in heaven, they still pray for us, just like they did while they were on earth. The doctrine is called The Communion of Saints. peace to you, brother.😁
Is the Vine severed between Heaven and earth? We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. Are they who are with Jesus in Heaven dead? No more than He is dead. We are the dead ones, by comparison to the life they enjoy.
From the days when life was still " normal"; A great performance just like everything Rich + band did in 1997. Coincidence? That imo 1997 was best concerts. Idk? Sorry I'm very sad today, I'll snap out of it. If only Rich + us all knew he would die Sept. 19, 1997 (jeep/truck crash). I have nobody, other than God that loves me- But if you do, hug them, praise them, listen to them and everything else nice, knowing they might be gone tomorrow, or in 5 months or whenever. Thanks :)
Sanntiimusic...Been there. "just a cool song...." and on each side and in between from strong agnostic, pantheistic to wandering along...to faith in something unprovable...and settled on these beliefs "not the invention of man", foolishly. This is a confession of faith put to (even what Rich, I'm sure would say) simple song in Love. It transcends music, time, all things in this reality. Pretty sure that's why Rich Mullins spent the time writing the notes to the CREED.
Ephesians 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, Ephesians 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
But of course, I'm not trying to convert you at this stage....just emphasize 'who leads who' in some "men's" lives. The CREED was everything to him it appears as it is to me. A song, no matter how inspired, is just a....song. That's why, in listening to people who 'get it' they don't take themselves too serious. Too IMPORTANT, nor too hard on themselves. Few do. Some of us who met Rich Mullins think he did in this bizarre American culture of winners and losers.
Didn't Jesus go to hell when he died and take the keys of death hell and the grave from the devil and preach to the condemned souls there? Since he died with the sin of the world on him I figured he deposited he sin there wrestled with he devil and after that victory rose again.

I bet he got through to some of the students and that's what Rich was doing just like our savior Jesus. Thanks for sharing.
This guy could make beautiful music with some wooden spoons and a stack of Tupperware. Some people just have a gift.
worship is heard by the heart.
love this man.
Agreed!
Exactly
He invented the cup song!
A favorite song of mine 🎵 Thank you, Rich Mullins, for writing and recording. Praise God, your faith is now sight with your Savior and Lord in Heaven.

Salvation in the fall of 89. 🙌🙌
Semper Fi and God Bless ❤. I miss him too
A wonderful way to begin this sunny Summer Sunday. Praise the Lord. August 11, 2024.

@@bobjob66 Since I wrote that message I have found several dulcimer players here on YT. My favorite is Joshua Messick.
Ted Yoder!
Try Ted Yoder...look him up. Don't get me wrong, Rich will always be the all-time greatest! But Ted is a good second.
It is the very truth of God, not the invention of any man. Thanks, Rich.
What a beautiful soul and unique talent resided in Rich Mullins, man I miss him.
I miss you Rich Mullins
many are called and Few are Chosen...Rich was Chosen and We benefited🙏
Rich is still a huge part of my journey, so thankful having these videos, God bless you for posting 😊🙌🏼💙✝️🙏🏼

Awesome. So glad Mitch is still touring!
I love Rich Mullins. 😁

This is soooooo amazing!!!
this must of been one of his last recorded performances before he died. rip rich. you were an inspiration
he still is. he actually feared and loved the Most high who revealed himself through Jesus Christ (Yeshua Ho'Moshiach) and was not in it for the money and fame
I think every video of Rich on RUclips says it's his "last performance".
Greatest songwriter who ever lived
Praise God for Rich & Mitch
He was so talented. RIP Homeless Man.

What a man for God!

Third Day does a version of Creed and does a very good job with it. Nothing will ever be able to top Rich however
HE was conceived by the HOLY SPIRIT. And I believe He's returning
Awesome man of God .....where is the next Rich Mullins
There's a guy named Ted Yoder who's playing some of Rich's music. But no one will ever replace Rich.
Mitch McVicker is still performing/touring.
Andrew Peterson have made much music, inspired by Rich Mullins
Play the dulcimer in heaven and sing out your heart to "Creed" .... thanks Rich and Mitch.

i'd watch your idolatry there, brother, Rich was not God... remember the first commandment? i don't even think Rich would like this comment
Rich Mullins \ Creed
I believe in God the Father almighty
Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth
And in Jesus Christ
His only begotten Son, our Lord
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
Born of the virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate
He was crucified and dead and buried
CHORUS:
And I believe what I believe
Is what makes me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
It is the very truth of God and not
The invention of any man
I believe that He who suffered
Was crucified, buried, and dead
He descended into hell and
On the third day, rose again
He ascended into Heaven where
He sits at God's mighty right hand
I believe that He's returning to
Judge the quick and the dead
Of the sons of men
CHORUS
I believe it, I believe it
I believe it
I believe it, I believe it
I believe in God the Father almighty
Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth
And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son,
Our Lord
I believe in the Holy Spirit
One Holy Church, the communion of Saints
The forgiveness of sin
I believe in the resurrection
I believe in a life that never ends
CHORUS
I believe it, I believe
I believe it, I believe
I believe it, I believe it
