I see this went straight over a lot of heads, but the message was that SONICALLY, his voice became harsh over the years and not two tone like it used to be. Which was my same argument for a WHILE now since "I Don't Deserve You". I always thought he was trying to pitch it up a bit like Wayne and Drake, but I too noticed it sounds like he damaged it some point in his career. This video was right on the money with how I've been feeling, but none the less, Banks' pengame is still formidable 💯
Banks is my favourite rapper of all time and I also agree with you.
Yall bugging, Banks later and most recent projects have been his best work
absolutely
The subject is about his voice not his material
@@murkmecca5547 Not really. His projects are dark and depressing now. They’re good for when you yourself are down but to listen to off top, it kills your whole mood. Last night I was feeling good and happy and threw on a song called “Keep Up” by Lloyd Bankd from the Failure’s No Option mixtape and man I started missing my younger years, my ex’s, reevaluating my life and everything.
facts it’s called growing up
Exactly 💯💯
Banks had literally gotten better
Lyrically, he has, sonically, imo, no.
2006-2011 banks is best
His style has gotten better over time. He switched his style up and sounds like no other rapper. GOAT status
literally
This dude doesn't know what he's talking about
Nah he’s spot on. After Mo Money In The Bank Pt. 5, the final chapter of that trilogy, it all went downhill. His voice changed, he started picking dark beats, he stopped the punchline flow and started using unknown named producers.
@@BlackFaithProductionaka being🎉 himself and stoppin Curtis G-Unit major company shit (good shit tho, but!). The real Banks classics are dark since the beginning. He's too real for tryin to be the King of NY. He's the mayor.
Listen..Banks still active. Dudes still don't want problems with his pen.💯
nah banks went off on another 70. To each their own though
never discredited the bars- his voice drastically changed at that point, and imo, not for the better.
@@ThatDopeShttt I feel you. I think I noticed it more around cold corner 2.
Nah his voice change isn’t as bad as what happened to Dave east voice after 2016
Do explain that one
East voice has changed but still sound fire 2 me. He puts out more work den anybody in NYC n dats y he losing his voice lol Jada voice soun shitty on sum newer tracks also lol
Man,I thought i was the only one who noticed that shit! 😂 i knew I wasn’t trippin
@@xxreyoxx Listen to Momma Workin, Let It Go or S.D.E. then listen to his newer music. Sound like 2 totally different people
Bro now has the same voice as Peter Griffin.
Nah...Banks voice has definitely changed but this is outta line.
Neve questioned his pen- if you watch the whole video I give props where it is due. But I have never heard such a drastic change in vocals other than D.O.C(from the car accident).
@@ThatDopeShtttthen you must never heard of Shyne Po
@@_doomzday difference is Shyne Po bowed out the rap game because of it. And his lyricism along with vocals tanked. 🎯
I think Juelz is getting there. But it's not just his rap voice it's the way he speaks too.
The same Happened wit P his voice changed when he was like in his mid 20s idk if it was drugs tho but Jules got love 4 him but he don’t he don’t even rap or speak da same idk what he snorting fr
you took a wrong turn with this one. yes his voice changed over the years however his vocals being swallowed or fighting for space in a song falls on the engineer... I don't know where your head was when you made this video, the overall presentation make it seem like feelings were hurt judging from the memes you utilized.
Shuttup and just understand what he is saying, What'd wrong with you..he said just vocal delivery changed
I Prefer his voice from before, but his delivery currently..... Man, he has really dope lyrics comparing 2004.
Dissin banks? Imma need that fade b…deadass
While his 2006/7-2016 delivery isn’t the same as his 2001-2005 delivery, I still really enjoy it, especially on HFM2. His 2020+ voice is a weird hybrid of the two.
I think Banks just got older and his voice changed, because he started as a teenager. Look at this 134 all starz songs, then the earlier g unit mixtapes, then his first album and then since 2010 his voice sounds more nasal. I really like his older voice.
i honestly never notice the changes in his voice. with the side by side you can hear it clearly but banks its so talented that honestly it doesn't bother me at all.
I mention in the video, for instance, on 'death by design', his flow and bars cut through to the point where it shines over the rough vocals. Hope all is well homie! Salute 🫡
Shyt, I never noticed either lol
Lloyd Banks voice change seems to be purposeful. Note the lyrics on his song. ‘My brothers keeper’. - “' rights and white chicks, havin' nice in-flight trips
Made a complete life switch, .” He made an artistic decision to distinguish himself as an MC. The ‘new’ voice, hate it or love it. Is unique to him, and a call to remember his career.
Ive ALWAYS wondered how his voice changed!!!!!!!! I noticed it instantly back in the day!
I think it’s partly his voice maturing but mostly maturing as an artist. It was a style change to sound more well rounded, not just a distinguished punchline rapper. Banks sounded perfect on I’m So Fly. I think his engineer could tweak his voice if he wanted to, but it’s his choice.
Definitely agree. I'm so fly will forever be a classic.
Jackpot was 🔥 way better than that Shurmad 🗑
Ok course a 42 year old banks won't sound like a 19 or 20 year old banks. Especially with partying, smoking, drinking and touring in G units Glory days. I bet screaming on those stages stressed his voice. We have to account for that too. He is older now. Some people voices change as they get older. I ain't mad at it cause Banks gave us some of the best punchlines in Hip Hop during the early 2000$. Banks is still a top tier MC especially if you ask someone that was around in the early 2000$ to witness the run Banks and G unit had. Banks still has it in him. U can tell but life is much different once you enter your 40$ both physically and situational.... peace
idk i think his grown man voice better suits his music. when he was younger he sounded a little goofy. now he sounds hardcore.
I agree his voice is more gritty now I fw it as well, but his old voice was cool too at the time.
What??? (Nick Young Meme)
come on bro he don’t sound that bad 😭
Halloween Havoc 4 is dope
Nah. You’re wrong and discrediting 14 years of dope Lloyd Banks music. His delivery may not be for you, but this video is egregious.
If you watch the video, I give props where it's due. He has transitioned from being your typical punchline rapper to a lyrically diverse MC. I'm talking vocals here. Just my observation and opinion.
@@ThatDopeShtttI totally agree with you here. He has changed sonically, and it's a lot harder for me to listen to him now as well. He has really good wordplay still, but that voice ruins it for me. The Flex free is a really good example of how flat and monotone he sounds now. He still has dope bars, but the package as a whole is lacking. He talked on Joe Buddens podcast about how he still punches but prefers to do more intricate wordplay on his newer projects, that's not the issue most of us take with it though; it's that his voice lacks conviction these days.
I noticed that his voice seemed to get higher as the years went on too but the lyrics and bars are still there
Facts!
Horrorcore Bankz is where he shines the best. His latest freestyle on flex is a good example
Must be your ears
Homie is absolutely right, back in the day i didnt have to look up banks lyrics unless i just wanted to read it,nowadays i look up his lyrics because i cant understand some of his words in his songs, his earlier voice was definitely more crisp and clearer,he is still my favorite rapper and more lyrical than he has ever been and gets better every project
His voice changed a lot, but his style is unique. From hunger for More until COTI,he never disappoints.
His last 2 albums were dope. The flows and the message unmatched
Best still sound still even better i love lloyd banks i loves all his albums
Yeah i agree 💯💯 rocking with the old banks voice
Every rapper goes through a voice change at some point. This is a huge reason i don't listen to most of their new shit most times. I understand evolving as time passes, but when you're basically unrecognizable from what made me a fan in the first place, its hard to ignore that.
I thought I was tripping. Glad someone else noticed it too.
Heard his new albums are good as 2006-2011 banker
His voice has changed. And he’s better than ever now.
I noticed this around the time he dropped Halloween Havoc 1 and Return of the PLK. His pitch definitely changed and became more gritty and raspy than it already was. However, I felt it was for the better. It gave him a greater presence and flair and his choice in his album making improved as well. I like his grit pitch now, it suits him
Great perspective
Songs u talking about with his voice not sounding the same aren't even joints that Banks cares about..u obliviously haven't been listening to Banks after he left .. sounds what the real problem is that his content has changed since he was younger and certain Banks fans can't deal with the maturity of his music
We need to know what happened to Dave East’s voice
this isn't the first comment suggesting that 🤔
@@ThatDopeShttt exactly because he sounds nothing like his mixtape days his voice became cringe af
@@ProdBySxBhe sounds the same on every song

Dam, can she live is one of my favorite tracks. L take. V6 is a classic.
Banks later stages is actually better than Banks prior to 2008 - he got better, the voice changed was a transition that actually worked in his favor for his most recent projects !
Definitely agree he's definitely evolved in every way.
I only hear music for the bars. He's not a singer, so his voice shouldn't be an issue.
The only voices I hated were those nerdy Drake/ Lil Wayne voices, but that's because their bars were fraudulent. You can't have hard-core bars and be a nerd. They're voice didn't match their bars.
Atleast, with the grimeyy LB voice matches his bars.
He switch a flow a little but it’s definitely for the better
South side story is one of the dopest tracks man
His projects are dark and depressing now.
Yeah I said that to my homie ever since he left 50 his music is depressing.
@@Raffi220 I’m sure that’s why he left Fif. He was tired of just recording club songs or gunplay records. When Banks father died he needed to express that into his music. The beef started when Banks was explaining to Fif he was depressed that his pops died and Fif was like “yeah I get that but we gotta get these records out”. I’m paraphrasing but it went along those lines. Fif just couldn’t relate. They’re both built different.
@@BlackFaithProduction What made things worse was Banks' father and 50 used to hustle in the streets together so that also led to Banks' confusion on why 50 wasn't more understanding. What I think led to their recent issues is 50 did the same thing in 2017 when Banks' mother or grandmother passed away and 50 starting joking on Instagram about him being MIA. Then learning from a fan about what happened and saying Banks didn't tell him about it
@@AyoGhost That’s crazy. I see why Banks decided to distance himself from Fif. Banks has a new movie coming out called Mother & Gun dropping 9-13-2024. I can’t wait to see it. The trailer is on his IG. Hopefully he starts doing more things in the public now that he’s independent.
I been noticed the change in his vocals and I never liked it either. His voice was much deeper and solid but now he Sounds like he's losing his voice.
South Side story is timeless
Same thing happened with Camron, everytime he raps (after crime pays) it sound like he got sum stuck in his throat ⏸️
That Halloween album was fire 🔥
His voice has changed but i think this is more of a delivery issue than a vocal one. He still sounds great on modern songs though arguably less aggressive/energetic. One coule argue he had consistently better production/direction in his earlier career but i ront think he sounds bad now by any stretch
After Mo Money In The Bank Pt. 5, the final chapter of that trilogy, it all went downhill. His voice changed, he started picking dark beats, he stopped the punchline flow and started using unknown named producers.
Downhill TF smh
I Love banks voice how it is now!!
Well folks grow up and get older, listen to 50 from like 98 to when he finally blew up, and then now, he literally doesn't sound close to the same....
After all those lyrics, I do not really mind the voice change. He is aging too.
Listen to Broken Arrows from his last project. The last half of the project is crazy good
The problem is your speakers or the quality you’re hearing this music at not banks voice
you can say the same thing about 50Cent, Papoose, Lil Wayne, Camron and many more. Their voices have changed with age. I was devastated when Wayne changed his voice in 2009 to this squeaky one we're accustomed to now. However banks no longer raps in punchlines. His style has evolved to more story telling. He's just as dope as he used to be.
I dig the video because I always heard this as a Banks fan others would say it’s his voice that kills it for them. The video leads me to believe we’re both fans here so we can set that aside and speak as if we’re on the same side. I never noticed his voice as being bad and always took it as the people who don’t like him just don’t mess with him. That’s that. But hearing the side by side comparison the change is drastic and it can be something to them not liking his voice. I guess I was a fan of it and didn’t mind his voice. Bars and overall projects always been nice. I think as a grown ass man our voices mature. I’ve recorded over 20 years myself and I can definitely hear that I sound more mature as time passes. Voice wise. So maybe maturity and he always seemed low or “soft” spoken naturally so having to yell on mics in crowds and all that goes against his natural voice and tone and can be a factor too. With that and maturity my man’s voice changed some. Still sounds like Banks though. And most of the people I’ve grown up with have drank and smoked their entire lives. A person would have to be going nuts on that shit and I wouldn’t want to just slap that on my man’s name like that. It’s not “unbearable” like say, Beanie Seagal. That’s a total change for me and even as a fan of him I won’t listen. Overall good video and channel. Fuck with ya boy!
I agree, but Beanie Sigel's voice changed because he got shot, it didn't just change over time naturally.
@@jacobalamo5911 Indeed. I was just speaking on the fact that it’s totally different now and makes it hard to listen to him and how Banks’ is different but not to that extent or “unbearable” like my man’s said in the video.
I've heard people say they prefer Banks' current voice and the more darker/boombap beats he raps over. That's understandable. If Banks had his old voice and his now wider range as a lyricists- we'd be talking top 10 right now.
@@ThatDopeShttt What’s crazy is when he does drop he has his spot for sure and all the top underground guys respect him and work with him. He has an odd spot in the game that seems to be good to be in.
@@raypmusic1902 No doubt, I really don't mind their voices tho. Its hard to hear sometimes, but they can still sound dope over the right beats
I always felt like this. I 100% agree.
Banks still fire , what yal talkin bout . He’s actually way better lyrically right now then he was
he is better lyrically
@@ThatDopeShttt he just got better every year pretty much
I prefer his voice now but i find him hard to recommend him to people due to it. I've always rocked with banks but not nearly as much as how he sounds now aged up, leveled up and gruff as fuck. it fits his lyrical content a lot more for me too, totally get what you're saying tho. for me it's just *chefs kiss*
I heard him live at the Hunger for More 20th anniversary tour. He sounded pretty much the same but just more mature. You gotta think bro, most of us were like 13-15 when banks dropped debut wise 03-04 when we was 19-20 at the time. Voice change with age, he was way more energetic. But being 40 and still rapping, you gotta switch it up a bit for sure.
@That Dope Sh^t I do agree that the smoking, drinking, and also the older he got definitely are huge factors in his voice but to say that he sounds close to the cookie monster naww! maybe a little raspy maybe cause to me the rapper who's voice sound clearly as the cookie monster hands down is Ja Rule! that's why he got dissed so much times because of his deep cookie monster voice singing on those records not PLK! though. Maybe raspy
I’ve been saying this for years 😂… thank you for making this video Maaan I was hoping you had the answer but I’m not sure wtf happened
damn bruh so harsh on banks voice. i mean in hip hop we went through worse without the level of lyrcism. i mean do u remember the Timberland and Magoo era? Silk tha shokker. and honestly for a lot of people from the south and east coast, the bay area's hyphy movement would get no play in at all. But i never found his new voice unbearable i just think those years of being 50's hype man on tour destroyed his vocal chords. without proper training this happens. Look at the screamo scene, its very common for them to switch out lead singers at most 4 times in a decade span.
On some tracks, for me at least, it teeters between being unbearable and listenable. I want to reiterate I do believe his performance as a lyricist has evolved from being just a punchline rapper. Always will be a fan of Banks. Can't wait for CC3 to drop.
@@ThatDopeShttt once you get through drakeo the rulers catalog with his leaned out delivery u literally can listen to anything. Took a while for his voice to grow on me but once it did I couldn't stop laughing at his punchlines and sense of humor. Another rappers voice whos went drastic changes is the doc. Now his voice after the accident you couldn't imagine on a track at all.
Y'all wanna talk about a voice change look at yuk mouth
@@MilesBeatsLive that's a good one. But another comes to mind is Shyne. I wouldn't say his voice changed it was just older and lacking charisma and it seemed like he lost his flow.
@vash254 shyne voice change hurt cause he was one of the dopest gangster rappers ever to me. He couldve been a legendary rapper.
0:35 Banks was so much better 💯💯
Jadakiss too!
But yet he’s still regarded as one of the best lyricists in the game. I see the voice change but to not think one bit that the joints you played beats took over the whole joint, not just his verse is a plain out opinion.
I disagree with EVERYTHING you said. However, how someone performs and what is used to record, amongst a multitude of other factors, can affect takes. Overall though, I think Banks having to side with Fifty against all the elite rappers in the 2000's, Nas, Remy, Jada, Beanie, Cam, Raekwon, the list goes on, hindered the people he could work with and earn his place amongst Hip Hop's top Lyricists.
So everybody not gonna talk about P one of my personal favorite MC’s top 5 personally but no one gonna talk about what happened to his voice in his mid 20’s Infamy prodigy is where we heard a Jurassic change in his voice gotten a lot deeper nd more stronger slur, nd he sounded nothing like infamous, Hell On Earth, or Munda Musik Prodigy trust me when I tell u I’ve been asking da shit to myself since 01 or 02 when I was five going on six years old still asking ts at 28 even Cam 2 nd Raekwon but that’s a whole nother story
Yeah i remember at a certain point i figured it was because he was very young and all that smoking, touring, etc. changed his voice. But after a while i got used to it. His rhymes have way more substance now even tho his old voice was ill. 🤷🏾♂️
Way more substance. FNO could have been an album. And CC2.
Like your channel love the topics. Some of them are videos I actually wanted to make or would’ve made.
Thank you!!
The COTI albums and his freestyles on Funk Flex are solid. As far as material being released recently, Banks, Griselda, Czarface, Alchemist, Nas, Snoop Dogg, LOX, Statik Selektah, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, E-40, Nems and Vinnie Paz are the only rappers worth listening to that sound like real rap, not skinny jeans rap.
His new shit sounds good
He doesn't sound any different his voice never changed
I’ve always wondered this same thing! I literally don’t know what happened to his previous vocal tone 🤷🏾♂️
Buggin. Yes, his voice did change and us fans did have to adjust to it. But he still as dope as ever.
V.5 was definitely heat.
Can She Live is one of my favorite tracks off V6.
It's different but not bad but to call the tracks whack is crayy My guy.
And I noticed the voice change before 07/08 I actually noticed it on some tracks on the mixtapes Money In the Bank 4 and 5, The Big Withdraw tracks and on some tracks on Rotten Apple( Which makes sense they were all recorded around the same time)
He sounded different after 2004
2006 to be exact
It's a loss of testoserone. As you get older and loss ur testoserone your voice can get lighter...IF you had a really deep voice. But this isn't the case for everyone. For Banks it is tho. Im 34yrs old. At 20, my voice was deep asf! Even in H.S. my voice was extremely deep. Now, it's normal. Lolz
Banks is dope. I noticed differences and put it down to production/engineering from mixtapes to albums. But listening to comparisons here its more profound than I imagined.
TDS
Word up! still waiting on CC3 though
It sounds like he mumbles now. I remember the gunit days. He sounded a lot clearer
Banks ❤
Yea his voice change was very noticeable in the 2010-12 range notably with his mixtape V6 The Gift. Some tracks sounded like he was starved of water even though the project was fairly solid to me.I like banks old voice it was grittier and made the punches hit harder but musically he's gotten better from the FNO series onward and I think he's mostly kept a sound that favors his newer vocal tone to make it more tolerable which it has. This was a good topic cuz I've never heard anyone seriously bring it up but as a banks fan I always noticed but still enjoyed the music
people think I'm hating, but it's really pure frustration as a Banks fan. CC2 is still classic, FNO is still classic. I think I was a lil harsh on a couple points though lol. Thanks for your logical response.
@@ThatDopeShttt I understand cuz I noticed the same thing after he made his hfm2 and then it got real bad during that 2012 V6 run.It sorta reminds me of dave east voice changing after 2017/18 timeframe the same timeframe he admitted he was addicted to lean which likely altered his voice.Rappers underestimate the value of keeping their vocals protected and healthy cuz you never know what might alter it
Mixing issues... nothing to do with that man's voice.
This video is fucking remedial banks latest material is fucking fire
sometimes he sounds like Westside Gunn if he was rapping in his talking voice (TDS).
Sugma! Yeah it's real frustrating when he raps in these ridiculous tones that sound unnatural.

Work magic 💪💯💯
I can’t remember any lyrics from his recent albums cause the vocals don’t stand out against the beat
Nothing was the same after Banks lost the original copy of his sophomore album and had to whip up Rotten Apple for his release date. That album was received HARSHLY... He ain't sound the same since. He still one of the best lyricists to ever do it, his legacy is cemented.

on those early mixtapes banks didn't have great mixing but his voice still shined through imo
aye how you block pages i really cant find it ??
You make this sound as if the vocal pitch are more norm when they’re really just an exception. I think it’s just a combination of a how it’s mixed too and if his new delivery matches the personality of the beat.
The way you tell it though is like D.O.C. after the car crash or Beanie Siegel post Roc.
save the excuses. mixing? his early mixtapes had horrible mixes but his voice shines through. his delivery is a shell of what it once was.
@@ThatDopeShttt I clearly say it’s a combination (keyword, combination) of how it’s mixed and how his new vocal delivery may not be matching the personality of the production.
His new delivery isn’t so pervasive where it ruins a majority of what he touches which you also acknowledge. Now if you gave examples of where his new style ruined the entirety of a full project or projects, you’d have a solid case
It just sounds like a older banks or a better mic or maybe filter's.anyway he still one of the best ever
He layered his verse in the beginning he just stopped layering
I thought as much, his voice changed, his lyrics got less audible
word up
It’s the engineer
I agree. I noticed the start of the changes in 2006 when he dropped the hands up song. It wasnt as egregious as it got in 2008 but he didnt sound as cool or aggressive as he did in the early 2000s. I remember people complaining about his original voice and i thought that they were crazy. In Jersey I never heard that complaint but when i moved back down south thats when I heard it.
Yeah the east coast don't play about Banks 😂
