    THIS STORY:
We in the the LaBagh Woods Forest Preserve, on the northwest side of Chicago.
We found gravestones scattered all over the premises, adjacent an abandoned railroad line.
Who are these forgotten people? Are they still buried here? Or were their gravestones just dumped here?
Or worse? .......Newer family homes are just yards away.
    THIS CHANNEL:
    _________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
    Some are famous.
    And some infamous....
    ....and some with tragic endings.

My great great great grandfather is buried in a little graveyard in the woods. The churxh i've learned burned down around 1903 or 1904. The was left to be forgotten. People built a home next to the graveyard. The homeowners took it upon themselves to mow the grass(?) and weed whacked where needed. These are good human beings. We learned who we could tell, were veterans. Every Memorial day we place flags on the graves. A total opposite of this terrible situation you exposed Ron.

It's so sad. It's disgusting that development can move the dead. Cemeteries are sacred. Where i used to live there's a building off a bluff and when renovations were done on the grounds human bones were found. It's said back in the day they knew it was a cemetery and supposedly moved the bodies. It's just wrong!

I believe they moved quite a few for a London high-speed railway when it was being built in 2017, 60,000 bodies to be exhumed, St James Gardens, 1790 to 1853. There was a campaign to stop it , 500 trees for the chop too, phase 1 at Eustan Station went through, to be all finished by 2026. Money always comes before people, always has. Sad.

after watching these types of videos... it makes me realize you're dead and no longer are important to society... why spend 15k on a funeral? and you shouldn't be... your body wont contribute anything dead... life goes own, even if you don't lol... that respect to the dead bs is nothing but a ploy for the govt to make money, why should a dead persons family have to pay a death tax and etc? maybe there is a heaven maybe there's a hell... what does the body care about either tho? that being said... it doesn't matter what happens to a body during death, they're dead and don't know anything...

Should get like history section of an university behind this. Montrose cemetery board should have records but if somebody covered up things years ago, which may have easily been done, its gonna be hard to prove. Maybe like ground radar thru the university could see graves? Good blessings to all. R.i.p

@@RockinStacy i found same funeral director family has owned cemetery since 1902. They maybe covered it up. Grave stones in woods are 1920s so there should be records unless state government is crooked to. I've found some living descendants hope ron starts there and not with funeral home cause they all family. If anything should get a news crew in on it. I have a feeling its a cover up job. I've sent Ron info on hagop kirishian family line.

Wow! You know "some palms were greased" in this venture! The bodies are almost ALWAYS left where they were originally buried, & the markers discarded, paperwork is "edited" or simply lost, & when the people responsible are questioned, there's a whole lot of shoulder shrugging ...hopefully some of the relatives of these people can start inquiries into a possible Montrose Cemetary plot map? Or cemetary boundary markers? Maybe they could also start a few chats with the neighbors who may have dug up bodies/coffins while building their homes?

Looks like this was a burial ground. How awful for it to be left like this. It’s really a shock to find out that something that was part of a movie plot actually happens. A lot. Especially when it’s a horror movie!
Perhaps you could try county land use records? Here, cemeteries are required to file lot maps with the county, so perhaps the county this cemetery is in has similar requirements? Or perhaps the state’s cemetery board? Or, perhaps try what researchers did in San Francisco when that little girl’s casket was found and it turned out she had been missed when the cemetery she was originally buried in was moved, which is to see if local libraries or historical societies have old lot maps?
Even old banker’s maps or Sanborn fire insurance maps might help.
It looks like Find a Grave has these burials listed as being in a cemetery. That should help the research a lot. Have you thought of perhaps contacting the individual who listed the cemetery itself on Find a Grave? Now, I’m intrigued!

These cemeteries are everywhere. Seattle has one, same MO developers, city denying the cemetery existed, long story short, I helped try to clean up the cemetery with the Camp Fire Girls around 1960-62, so I know it existed. What was left of the cemetery was restored, but the baby section had houses built on it.

They discarded the bodies and then tossed the markers and the cemetery plot ID's in order to cover up the fact that they illegally removed the bodies. Look at where many of these people were from and then figure that they have no next of kin here in the USA, or if they are, do not live nearby. The markers would not be moved unless the bodies were moved. Follow the money.

So very sad to see people tossed away like that. I'm in Colorado and the "oldest" cemetery in Denver, Riverside, and Cheesman Park are linked. Cheesman was a cemetery and the city wanted the land for a park, so they started moving bodies and markers to Riverside. At first, they were very meticulous and the whole situation devolved when the cost started to rise. There are several mass graves at Riverside (a little marker that just says, "Colorado Children's Home," just brought me to tears), but they even abandoned that effort and the city just paved over hundreds of graves that still remain. I couldn't imagine that happening to one of my relatives.

Love your channel so interesting. Those poor people that thought they were buried and resting in peace. I’m from Bristol UK and we had a cemetery that was privately owned called Arnos Vale. The owner let it get run down and decided to sell it to developers. The council stepped in and made a compulsory purchase order. It is amazing they’ve done to the place. There are volunteers that help to run it. There is so much history attached to the cemetery. They do tours explaining the different types of head stones the people buried there, wild life talks. My husbands old home used to back on to the cemetery and he would get deer in his garden, which is unusual as it’s in the middle of the city! If you get the chance look it up, maybe use it as an example to save this cemetery. Keep up the good work you are doing.

Could the numbered cylinders be marking pauper graves, looks like they are upright with the numbers up. I believe you covered another cemetery by a hospital which had numbered markers. Development in the area may have diverted water to cause the area to flood. Seems if the markers were just dumped for disposal they would be piled with no sequence.

I know that the cemetery some of my family is buried in have markers like that at every corner. It's different lots/areas. It makes it easier for the cemetery to use to find certain grave etc. It doesn't hurt to ask questions at the office which I did 😊

No way those circular numbered stones aren't graves when they're lined up so closely--perfectly for grave next to grave. They have to be paupers' graves. It's a big town with an old cemetery and the dates include World War 1 (1914-1918), when many citizens went to join the fight and/or fight with/for relatives, and a major pandemic (1918) when whole families could have died with no one to pay for the graves. And that's NOT counting the Tuberculosis place.

A little insight. Real Satanist use an upsidedown pentagram. Usually with a goats head intertwined somehow. A point up pentagram is similar to an upright cross. It is not evil. So when it's used like the picture here, you can bet it's people who have no idea. And those who follow the pagan nature religion really find that kind of thing horribly offensive and feel the symbol is desecrated by those practices. Just some information and insight. Please don't make this into a negative discussion.

He had told me about it and called it "The Lost Cemetery" .....it was scary. I can't believe it's still there! I remember when they tore up the tracks to make a bike path. Extremely angry!! I've spent 20 years doing family research. About 7 minutes into this video you will see the headstone of Jacob Herbst 1882-1923. He's a lost member of my family. His name was actually Jakob Herbst and he was born in Mackenbach, Bavaria. He was married to Rosie Ulrich, who, with their son Jacob and her brother Sam Ulreich, are buried at the REAL Montrose Cemetery. Jakob was a musician. He was a violin finisher by trade. He immigrated to this country in 1910 and was naturalized in 1919. His family lived on Bissell Street in Chicago. He suffered great loss in his life, loosing at least 2 sons at very young ages, himself passing at a young age. And today, as we all see, his suffering continues nearly a century after his passing, being forgotten and thrown away in an unkept area of discarded memories. This absolutely breaks my heart! Tomorrow, I will be making some calls to find out how and why his headstone is there. But most importantly, where HIS location actually is. He had a son that passed in 1983, and I will be starting there to find out who would have been responsible for the laying to rest of these poor people. Jakob....you are NOT forgotten; in memory, thanks to this youtube video....you have family again. Rest in peace.

From google images it’s fairly obvious to me the area with new house is the site for the removed head stones and the developer even used the original roads in the cemetery by the Satelite images but that’s to obvious I’d be thinking the person or persons responsible had never thought Satalite images would ever be a thing

I used to dig graves in a few remote towns that were once boom towns. At one, the markers were once mostly timber. When the town declined, a fire took out most of the markers, and another fire later at the Council building took out the burial records. There is now around 300 known locations, but 2500 burials. If I was digging a grave in an older area I always had to have a back up location in case someone was already in there - which wasn't uncommon. At another cemetery, the whole old indigenous area had become lost and overgrown, and was nothing more than a rumour. I tried to get in there many times but it was just too thick.

Oh I just got a sick feeling. My great grandparents are buried there at Montrose as are most of my grandfathers family. My grandparents had bought lots there as well but wanted to be by their only daughter who had lots in Mt. Emblem so those graves were never going to used. When my grandfather died, his cousin was saying she and her husband tried to get graves there but they were all taken so they could not be in that cemetary by her parents. We gave her my grandparents lots and that was 25 years ago. I noticed when I went to the cemetery there were newer graves just next to that oriental section. Maybe they were dug up and those graves resold.
