  • Hear this 18th-century set of border pipes played by Fin Moore and discover its social uses in the border region of England and Scotland.
Tradition says this set of pipes were played by William Lamshaw, the Piper to the Duke of Northumberland, in the late 18th century. They were also used as a model for modern copies played today.

This video is a couple years old now, so hopefully someone is around to anwser... Im curious, are these the very pipes that are drawn in the Cocks and Bryan book as half-long pipes?

Hi - sorry for the slow response. Yes, these are the same pipes. There are some very slight alternations in the drawing from the original, but yes, the drawings are based on these pipes.

@@StCeciliasHallThat's awesome! Thought it looked familiar. I recently 3d printed a set based on those drawings! The drones are lovely, but I never was able to get the chanter to play in tune with itself

@@davidsong5315 There is no orthodoxy of technique or style in the Lowland / Border tradition so there's no reason that you cannot teach yourself I've been playing my pipes for over thirty years and I am completely self taught. I know of others too who come from outwith the Highland piping tradition and are self taught on the Lowland / Border bagpipes..

I see there are no videos on line, about the making, the tuning, the adgiusting f a chanter reed of a border pipe,
there are similar videos for uillean pipes and for highland bag pipes, but there is not a video explainig how to make a border pipe chanter reed, from a GHB pipe chanter reed, and there are no videos of how to tune in the proper way, a border pipe chanter..... with the tecnic of puting little straps of tape on it
