Great stuff as usual ! Bernardo Kastrup makes thE most compelling arguments for a modern monistic Idealism that I'm aware of. Its well worthy of serious contemplation at the very least. & I'm tending to favor them above all else, as they seem to connect the most dots, by far imo.
I think that you will find that Consciousness precedes material existence. There IS a Divine being that Created us and the Universe. How do you explain near death experiences where the consciousness exists distantly outside of the body, which has technically died. There are documented cases where people who are clinically dead traveled elsewhere and observed what was going on at the time.
During the Renaissance there was a rise of magic and alchemy in Europe, somewhat similar in approach to the New Age of the 20th century. Magic was attacked by both religion and science for two main reasons: It was too organic and lacked precision i.e. it was not as elegant as theologians and scientists hoped to explain reality. In magic everybody is a god in development and can interact with nature in a non-physical manner for good or ill. On the other hand the idea that God governs a rational mathematical universe is perceived as far more elegant. Science today still searches for a unified theory of reality hopefully defined with as elegant equations as Einstein’s E = mc2. The other problem is that the idea that everybody is a god in development is offensive to authorities whether political, religious, military or intellectual (academia). According to magic, in theory, a goat-shepherd can descend from a mountain with an enlightened mind, consciousness and intelligence far above the currently established authorities. He/she could have developed such elevated state by some rituals or sheer power of will. This obviously would be quite upsetting to the establishment who believe they are the authorities who have the last word on reality...
Yeah your right, good to see you applying some sociology to all this, its the main reason I like Rupert Sheldrake as well. This idea materialists have that science is always purely objective and can never be influenced by social factors is nonsense, in a field that has historically been totally dominated by straight, cis white men from a Christian background. That's gonna cause some serious bias, as shown with the sexism, racism and classism within science during the 18th and 19th century and it was only as science diversified that we started to get a much more accurate view of things.
To my shock, I recently found out that even pantheists can be atheists. I thought that it was a contradiction but it turns out there's a branch of pantheism called "scientific pantheism" that views everything as material but they think all of it is awesome and say that awesomeness is worthy of worship. They see reality and existence as just a happening of atoms that are non-living, non-sentient, non-deity, and non-mystical. Just really cool and celebrate that. I guess they even have some basic rituals to go with this incredibly reductive view. I think it's sad and I wish they'd find a different name and keep the atheism out of pantheism other than as an aspect of theism. I'm a panpsychic and I feel that everyone will be in for a big surprise when they die and realize that there is more. "The Universe is Mental--held in the mind of the ALL." -Kybalion But I'm with you that it's evolutionary and I know the universe has memory, too. The physical isn't just an fabrication but it is an interpretation with many possible persectives. Not just one. And it's all happening at once.
@@WildAlchemicalSpirit No one is surprised personally as the individual is essentially cut off from the material plane at death. They have not the limited mind to be surprised with. Most people don't have direct experience with their past lives either. I think the surprises come about via near death experiences, ego transcendance/"no self" experiences, etc.
@@carl8568 well, right before you die it IS a near death experience. Outside of the 3D world there is no time and anything can happen. So in those moments before actual death, an eternity can occur. There's plenty of time for surprise and then some before we are "cut off". I think it's entirely possible for someone to remain conscious after death, too. If one constructs a mental body to carry on in, then what is to stop them from having experiences, ie Tibetan Rainbow Body?
@@WildAlchemicalSpirit Yeah and then you're cut off. The dying (ego dissolution) is best done throughout life to have deeper understandings. If you happen to be on that type of path. And then say you create this theoretical vehicle you speak of, how many people have the capacity to organise this? One in a billion? One person in 1000 years?
I think the question is "Is there a Creator of all that is, or not?". I have evidence that there is. Check out Karl Mollison's work on GetWisdom.com. I love your inquiring mind, Rupert! Keep looking.
It's the same mistake over and over - Please provide your underlying reasoning what "god" or "spirituality" have to do with non-dualism. What conditions does non-dualism provide to give rise to the supernatural? Why should "god" always be somewhere else - if you really want to posit that there is one and only one god? Anyway, I do not accept the existence of a supernatural force of any kind in some unseen place and certainly not one as described in the three great religions. The entire idea of "god" is suffocating the imaginations of man - there just is no reason to invoke all that on the grounds of non-dualism.
Ok....... when has Rupert ever advocated for his religion or any religion for that matter? All Sheldrake has ever said is "People have these mystical experiences and its our job as scientists to help people understand them, not explain them away." Also its pretty clear your already VERY biased and there is very little anyone could offer to change your mind. You have a belief system just like everyone else, cept unlike anyone else's, somehow yours is very special in that its just the truth and isn't a belief system.
Hi Rupert. I am a Daoist. When western philosophers talk, I sigh... Western philosophy has lost a millennia looking for the Dao, which has already been found... Sigh...
Atheism is the conclusion of materialism. Reality is matter. Brain is a computer. Alfred Rupert Sheldrake teaches false concepts like holism, emergentism, morphic fields.
How is it false? He's presented evidence for his theories multiple times. Again your no different then the people who believe in god, you have a belief system, not the objective truth.
@@classyrassy1790 Sheldrake doesn't show any evidence of paranormal and psi. Objectice truth is materialism and laws of physics. Read Skeptical Enquirer magazine.

The views on this video reflect so much about priorities of modern societies
One thing is for certain materialism is inherently cultural.
Admitting to pluralistic synergy at a psycho-spiritual level annihilates extremes (pun intended) and reinforces nuance, spectrum and scale 👍🏾
Thank you! Very interesting topic for me, because I am associating per se Materialism and Atheism.

The ancient Stoics answered this question long ago, though I doubt modern physicalist atheists could accept the actuality of the Logos.
