He actually says “I hate the sound of car keys.” Peter has a video where he talks about his lyrics and the car keys line is referencing panic that can be felt by hearing like an abusive parent arriving home from work or similar situations. Love the band, absolutely recommend checking them out more!
Kao fucking rules. The sound of car keys is the fear of a parent getting home. I believe that’s where the dad lyrics come from. Or at least that’s what I took from it.
I've talked to the band on their Facebook briefly because his vocal style is strange. He didn't always scream like that. Listen to their previous albums Ex-Prayers, Never Home and Native all feature the singer using a more traditional metal scream. On their Dear Diary LP he committed to doing the screams this way and they told me they plan the next few records to be like this. They decided that this type of scream represented their message more accurately and I have to say it definitely makes the content more convincing. It sucks because people will hear this new scream and be like "wtf is that?" without digging deep enough to find that it's a creative decision. \m/
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I probably wouldn't have listened to another song if the vocals weren't what they are. Not to take away from the other great aspects of the band, but there are so many great bands/musicians out there nowadays. These guys are excellent and the weird vocals just makes it go that much harder for me.
My favorite band right now and for the past 3 years> Love these guys. Songwriting and drums are great, riffs are nasty (usually riffier that this) and the lyrics have some really high moments.
Hell yeah, randomly heard these guys and never cared to listen again (mainly because of the vocals). Saw them live and they put on a wild show so forced myself to check them out again, and after embracing Peter’s voice for what it is, these dudes are one of my favorite bands. The instrumentals are just out of this world and once used to the vocals, it really comes together. Don’t sleep on em!!!!
kinda one of those things where the "energy" you bring matters more than how technically "good" you are. They bring the fuckin heat and it makes it all sound dope.
Lawl. The dude on the right was having a hard time processing 😂 Hope he gives em more listens cuz once you figure out what he's doing it really is some next level shit
