    In the first episode of Ghost Recovers, I bring Ghost to his surgery and help him recover at home over the next 4 days.
    Episode 2 will be released on April 1, 2019. Please subscribe, comment, like, and share!
    Ghost is a 3 year old Siberian Husky that loves to play, run, and sleep!
    This past fall he tore both of his cranial crucial ligaments (acl for humans) and one meniscus within two weeks of each other. After going over options with my vet I took out a new credit card and maxed it out for the two surgeries that occurred 11 weeks apart.
    I am asking those that are in a position to donate for help to pay off the vet bills and to get Ghost proper physical therapy while he struggles to recover.
    If you are not able to donate I ask that you follow Ghost's recovery here on youtube!

    I've seen so many of these videos now where the dogs are walking on the leg within days of surgery....it set my expectations high so when my dog didn't want to walk on it for longer, we were so worried!! After 2 full weeks, she made her first attempts, and at 3 weeks post-op, finally started walking on it fully and is now doing great! I just want to remind anyone going through this, that every dog is different and while some will try using the leg immediately, we were told not to worry unless it's been more than two weeks since surgery, they all have their own timeline!

    Thank you for publishing the videos for Ghost’s surgery. Very helpful. Orion, my 8 yr old Australian Cattle dog will have his 1st TPLO surgery in 4 days (5-17-23). So I have been reading and watching videos on this surgery. My only concern is the stairs up to my apartment, he is 56 lbs and too heavy for me to carry. I bought a chest/hip harness that I am hoping will help. I pray that he doesn’t tear the other one. How did Ghost get the infections and were they hard to treat? I hope Ghost is doing great, he is so adorable!

    • @weddingsbyryanfitch
      @weddingsbyryanfitch  Год назад

      The chest and hip harness is very useful! I used that a few times after surgeries to help with Ghost doing his duties outside. Remember to lift with your legs and not your back! The skin infections were treated with antibiotic ointment from the vet but since then he has had either allergies or scratching that bring skin issues back up. I use natural dog company skin ointment and Dog Is Human daily supplement to help. He is doing great these days!

    I may have missed it but why didnt they do both legs at the same surgery appointment? It seems like it would be more cost efficient, and he would be put under only 1x. My girl needs both knees done and i hope they can do at 1 time. Its so sad that she cant walk at all now.

    • @weddingsbyryanfitch
      @weddingsbyryanfitch  3 месяца назад

      That would certainly be a question for your surgeon! Iirc, reasoning was 1) Pain threshold for the dog and 2) Needing a "strong" leg to carry the load while the metal merged with bone. Albeit, a still torn leg and why Ghost's meniscus also tore in that second leg. Tricky stuff indeed. Best of luck to you and your pup and a speedy recovery!

    Hi Ryan, thank you so much for the video! Great to see Ghost's recovery and really glad to see that he is enjoying walks and hikes now (from one of your comments here)! I do have a couple of questions - did you clean the stitches on the surgery site on a daily basis and if not, how often did you clean them? And did you use soapy water and wash cloth to do this? We have a 5 year old black lab who's sensitive and anxious so he's not letting us near the wound. Any suggestions? Thanks again!

    • @weddingsbyryanfitch
      @weddingsbyryanfitch  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Adithya! I actually did not have to clean the stitches (staples in my case) at all! Very lucky, my advice would be to ask your vet how to clean that area. I imagine it would be very softly with a damp towel, then applying an antibacterial ointment like Neosporin. Best of luck!!!

    Oh man I am so sorry. My golden has a partial tear in a luxated patella. Basically that means his kneecap keeps falling out on the back leg. Surgeon said she thinks it will scar over. I’m keeping my guy on a leash. we both have high energy dogs. Like ridiculously high energy dogs. It is hard to keep them from being the spaz as they are. I do believe my dogs knee is healing. It has stayed in the joint for a few days in a row now. But I am going to keep him very restrained for the next few weeks. We will do small walks. But he will be kept downstairs. No stairs because he bolts down them like lightning. And on a leash at all times in my yard. We have too many squirrels and bunnies and people riding bikes and walking their dog. Chasing and barking at these things is what did this injury in the first place. And the fact that it’s been raining for 40 years. Everything is muddy and slippery.
    I’m sure this video was made a while ago. I know this took a lot of time and dedication to get through. You’re a good dog owner. Please pray that we do not have to go through all of this. That this heals.

    • @weddingsbyryanfitch
      @weddingsbyryanfitch  6 месяцев назад

      A close friend of mine has a high energy dog that had surgery on a patella a few years back and it healed remarkably well and he can run off leash for short periods at a time which is very lucky. We've been leash only and slow on stairs since these surgeries/videos in 2018 and aside from a few limping days Ghost has been healthy and happy thankfully. I hope your surgeon is correct and that it will scar over/heal! Leash life is okay, just means you will be getting A LOT of steps in as well 😅Best of luck to you all!!

    Quick question. I'm getting conflicting information about letting your dog walk within the first two weeks. My dog had TPLO 3 days ago and she is wanting to walk. She's putting weight on her leg and looks good when I take her to potty. Am I able to take her on 5 minute walks yet or is it too early? She's crying bloddy murder being confined.
    Great recovery by your dog by the way.

    • @weddingsbyryanfitch
      @weddingsbyryanfitch  3 года назад +1

      I'd always take the advice of your vet or surgeon first, so give them a call and update them on how your pup is doing! Mine said he was okay to put weight on it around the house (no playing) and going out to go to the bathroom only. If I recall correctly I was able to take him for a short stroll on day 5 (surgery was on a wednesday and we walked 100 yards on following monday) Hope this helps!

    • @weddingsbyryanfitch
      @weddingsbyryanfitch  3 года назад

      I would recommend the long gel packs and wrap them in a hand towel so it's not too cold on the bare skin. Dogs just aren't used to be that shaved down so it's very sensitive. It is important to use ice to stop the inflammation so try your best and if it really won't let you, try bringing him into a cooler temperature room (40-50 degrees) like a garage or basement!
