“You cant write tears” Sean never said something more truthful. A great comedian and a great man, who always wanted to make people smile and laugh. Gone way too soon. RIP Sean

One of the few comedians who sincerely made me laugh out loud. As cliche and sappy as it sounds the world of comedy has lost one of its funniest citizens. I was always so happy to see him on the QI panel. R.I.P Sean Lock you funny git.
@Toni M I agree. When I watch clips I still can't get my head around the fact he is dead. I rarely feel anything when a celebrity passes away unless I like that person. It's almost like my brain is saying "no, he can't be dead, he is not the type to die". I'm glad people in the states appreciate him. My favourite comedian of all time is american, Mitch Hedberg, and his death upset me too. Sean Lock was hilarious and a thoroughly decent bloke.
I agree. I think because he seemed so "normal" for lack of a better word it would be easy to overlook just how quick and unique his mind actually was. I love comedians who have truly unique ways of looking at life and at any given situation. Which is why I love comedians like Mitch Hedberg and Patrice O'Neal. Sean Lock was in that same bracket in my opinion. Sadly all three are now gone and died way too young.
I’ve seen this man many times, I was never looking for him but when he came across my tv I would stay and watch, I don’t know who he reminds me of but he reminds me of someone close to me. Very funny and seemed like a nice guy. R.I.P Sean.

I found him during the worst period of my life and he made me forget how fucked up things have got. I couldn't imagine what my life would be without Sean's work. I know it's cliche but the world certainly got quieter now that he's gone.

Yeah, really sad. I was genuinely shocked when I heard that Paul Ritter died and even more so when I heard Sean Lock had died. Such a brilliant mind. Sean Lock is responsible for saying one of the funniest things I had heard in a long time when Rachel Riley put the Viking helmet/beard on and he said "that's a challenging w*nk" 😂😂😂
With everything the world is going through now, the amount of genuine grief over Sean's passing tells you just who he was. As sad as it is, going through his many highlights on RUclips is lighting dark days. Out of the many quotable lines, one of his answers to what he wanted after death cracks me up every time. "I want to be flytipped!"
I think a lot of people recognize that Sean was an amazingly funny and quick-witted man whose comedy has gotten many of us through difficult times. He is really going to be missed.
"Endlessly Delight" - Best statement yet. I discovered this line of comedy about 2 years ago. Thats what I love: being constantly surprised by the things he says. My condolences to all who knew him.
Good tribute from Mark. Also good to see that, at least on this occasion, the BBC weren’t lying about anything for at least 5:30 minutes. Well done, keep it up!
There are not many comedians who can instantly think of surreal and funny ideas literally in a split second, but Sean was one of the rare breed. Most comedians can do pre-written stand-up but put them on the spot and they fold. That is the sign of a real comedian.
A great comedian, so sardonic and when seeing him live I was refreshed to see he was quite unprofessional - it was the tour where later in the show he revealed himself to be the riddler, it destroyed me it so random. He was brilliant but in his own subtle way, he wasn’t ‘trying’ too hard and I always appreciate that in the performers I’ve seen. RIP Sean
I been a fan of Sean for years. In addition of his brilliant stand-up shows his appearances in “Live at the Apollo”, he made shows like “One Out of Ten Cats, Q I, and many more, so much better to watch. You’ll be missed Sean Lock.
What's interesting is that Harry Hill said, in his tribute to Sean, that he couldn't work out why some nights he killed it and other nights he was flat, and Sean told him he needed to stop messing about before he went on stage and take it seriously (I'm paraphrasing, but) and that's pretty much what Mark Lamarr had told Sean. RIP Sean Lock, comedy genius. I hope they fly-tip your body so you can carry on annoying people, even after you're dead.
@mug wump That would've been brilliant if he arranged for someone in his family to take a carrot out of the coffin and look smug whilst they're doing it.

The great Kiwi comic John Clark apparently wrote in a similar way. Doing anything to avoid doing any writing and then churning out gems for the last 30 minutes of the day.
John Cleese maintains that Peter Cook was the only one he knew (as a young man) who could write a sketch in real time. Chris Morris, however (who many consider to be his satirical heir) seems to be comparatively slow, and waits for an idea to 'bite him on the bum'!
