@MDJFilms I have seen the USAF Honor Guard Drill Team numerous times, actually. As in the national one. and the USAFA Cadet Honor Guard does the crapload of ceremonial stuff you mentioned as well. And thats on top of going to school and everything else they do. So no, you can't exactly expect them to be quite as precise and perfect as the people that do this for a living.
I think this is the freshman team. I was looking as best as I could at the hard boards. Ah it is. This was the 94/95 class year. So this was the all freshman team.
@MrDickMoore If you get a collection of guys who can do those difficult tricks, you can definitely put harder tricks into a routine. I mean at least a double in a platoon or flight would be easy enough. there isnt much spinning, just count manual like I said. And even with all those people, add a double shouldnt be difficult at all.
I agree with you, they are off in many instances and some guys keep fucking up while they walk. The only thing i like about them are the r.lines and the leftflank they do at the end of the routine, when they delay their heads, other than that, this was a crappy performance, and this year they are doing ecatly the same stuff, slight changes but wow, not so good anymore.
@MDJFilms "tricks". how long u been on a drill platoon? not long. it is a general rule that the more men in a platoon or squad, the simpler the routine can be because the courdination to maintain dress, cover, and cadence is a feet in itself. smaller units perform more "tricks." check out the marine corp silent drill platoon. not that difficult on the whole because the courdination is so hard. the air force honor guard however, spins much more because they are so much smaller.
@MrDickMoore I dont even see a single ariel though.. this is all just count manual stuff and just a single one hand spin... stuff i learned my first day. I'm not going to lie, this stuff is pretty much silent so thats a bit harder. And it sounds nice, but the tricks themselve arent that difficult
For as simple as the moves are. They are sharp and are drilling with Garands which is different then what most high school drills and a lot of drillers use which is typically the 1903 A3 Springfield drill rifle. So a fairly difficult rifle to get used to and sharp movements Is pretty bad A but the routine itself is really really great. Old School drill still stands tall with todays styles. And if you do think the team really sucks then you have no idea what you are talking about.
@pasfreak Nope, thats not. Only the national Honor Guard does that for a living... AND they barely do it. Do you realize spinning rifles is an extremely small part of their job? They do a CRAPLOAD of ceremonial stuff compared to spinning rifles. Pallbearing, Colorguard, etc. Also, the Honor Guards you've probably seen aren't from the national Honor Guard, I bet you they were unit Honor Guards. Those people have actual jobs and Honor Guard is an outside thing. So no, that is NOT their job.

Routine is very easy, but very sharp. Sharpness makes the routine look very nice in any arm reg ex.

I wish my AFJROTC Unit looked that awesome...
@MrDickMoore One last thing, the usaf honorguard has the same amount of people AND does more difficult stuff WITH precision.

We Drilled with the M-1 Garands in High School as well: we utterly detested the Springfields.
Am I the only one who cannot understand a word he is saying? I have heard some bad callers but dang.... Anyway, the team looks great.
