    Thanks for the nice tutorial. I've tried JS8 but haven't made a QSO on it yet, maybe today will be my lucky day. Seems like everyone is on FT8 these days and I find that dull. This looks like a great alternative for making QSOs with weak signals since unlike FT8, we can actually chat!

    • @HamRadioAdventures
      @HamRadioAdventures  4 года назад +1

      RedStickHam Yeah there are lots of hams on FT8 and it gets old after a while for me too. With everyone staying at home it seems like there would be more on the air using the other digital modes. Best 73 and hope everything is well with you.

    Just set up a Raspberry Pi 4 this week and installed all kinds of software, JS8Call was one of the packages. I was online earlier today and realized I needed to go find a YT video to figure this out. It was pretty confusing so I switched back to CW and had a few great QSOs. I think I kind of get it now from your video. JS8Call looks a little less boring than FT8 and a little more info sharing, I plan on playing around with it this weekend.
    Thanks for another great video.

      Hi Dennis, nice to hear from you. I hear you.
      Each version update the options change. I may do a short video or two on options, hopefully they don't change, HI!
      Best to you and yours, 73!

    Thanks for reply Rich. I use dimension 4 to sync time. I was using the frequency listed on top left i.e 7078 MHz. I think poor propogation was a factor

    • @HamRadioAdventures
      @HamRadioAdventures  5 лет назад +1

      That's unusual. They have a new version out. I haven't tried it but it is 1.0.0-rc1 I will have to try it and see if I have trouble.

    Hi Rich. I successfully downloaded & installed the latest JS8. 2 questions :
    1) You mentioned split mode via rig in the tutorial - Do you manually set the split offset in the software or do you set on your rig?
    2) I can hear & see strong signals, but no decode or activity in any rx windows in js8. My settings are pretty much the same on my rig using ft8. I seem to missing something.

      Hi and thanks for commenting here. If you set it in WSJT-X then you don’t have to do anything to the radio it will automatically go into split mode. If you’re not decoding anything do you have something to sync your computer time with? Are you on the JS8CALL frequency? I use www.timesynctool.com

    Hi Rich. When you mention filters off, are you talking about JS8 software or your rig?

    • @HamRadioAdventures
      @HamRadioAdventures  4 года назад

      Hi Trent thanks for commenting here and thank you for watching the video. No I was referring to the noise blanker and noise reduction. The auto notch or any notch filters should be off too. That’s 73!

    • @cam-man7350
      @cam-man7350 4 года назад +1

      Thanks Rich. Do you ever utilize the filter options within JS8? I'm guessing that setting filter 1 to 3.6k on the 7300/7610 stays the same for all modes

    • @HamRadioAdventures
      @HamRadioAdventures  4 года назад

      Trent Saunders I don’t I keep them off. I use the widest filter bandwidth, but I know some hams have to narrow the bandwidth because of interference. I just haven’t had that problem. Best 73!

    Have watched many of your videos and are all great...but I have a question on qso forwarding from JS8Call to HRD Log Book. I finally entered HRD....into the rig location in JS8Call and that got my info into HRDlog. Problem being the date formats are not the same. FT8Call uses day first and we use month first. I asked Jordon if the format can be changed in JS8Call and he answered no. Since you mentioned your are using this method have you found a way to get around this?

    How critical is it for the time to be sync’d between operators?

    • @HamRadioAdventures
      @HamRadioAdventures  6 лет назад

      Great question, greater than 2 seconds and it'll probably have trouble. I use a time sync program. The good news is "JS8Call includes a manual clock drift tool that you can use to modify your current time to match signals you see / hear (or to an external time source like a Timex watch, a GPS handheld, WWV, or the rooster crowing). This is intended to be used as a fail-safe for when your synchronized time source is not available." 73 Rich, K0PIR

      Thanks, I use a Mac and it rarely show’s seconds. I’ll have to investigate the issue. I know when I tried digital the other side “does not see” me which indicates that there may be a time issue. Digital for me is difficult, the time is maybe why....

    • @HamRadioAdventures
      @HamRadioAdventures  6 лет назад

      @@arkyump I use a iMac to sometimes. Maybe have a look at the time drift in JS8Call to see how far it is.
