I love how i can watch you videos and personally feel like I went with you, and that you are good friends with me. Your kindness and wisdom shall never be ceased.....I live in Florida, hope I run into at WDW, I ran into timtracker once.......love ya.......Anne
What about the man on the porch? It’s either A) The ride is his memories as a pirate in reverse. With the refurbs being as a way his are memories changing due to his age. Or B) It’s old Jack Sparrow retired after he got his treasure at the end of the ride.
YES it’s the return of 5 Weird Things! I’m so happy! I love what Randomland Adventures has become (the perfect combo of both channels and even better quality content more often! And better for Justin himself of course) but I went back to the old LFDP channel last night and started watching all of the 5 Weird Things vids because I miss them - then today this appears! Awesome!!
I loved 'Pirates' since I was a little kid. My dad got me a model kit of the skeleton pirate steering the ships wheel. I remember putting it together and painting it. It seems like a had another model of Pirates too. Since then it had a special meaning to me:) I still love that ride!
Hi Justin! I've been a big fan of your videos and I absolutely love this one :) I like all the Disney legends and this made my day so much better, all your videos do to be honest! :) So glad you're feeling better and that you and Ally are doing wonderful, keep being you and making amazing videos!!
It was great to see you on Main Street that day! It was these videos which started me following you! This is great! Thank you for being such a great creator and nice person when your fans see you. Thank You.
A Disney trip is never complete without at least 5 rides on Pirates! But I gotta say, the weiiiiirdest thing about the ride to me is Disney's decision to make Davy Jones tell you that dead men DO tell tales after so much moaning that they don't. What's up with that, Davy?
Oh great... Bambi rock cannot be unseen now. Regarding the stuff sticking out of the bird's chest; I always thought it was the rudiments of feather quills left over after shaving the bird's chest (why one would want to shave a parrot's chest I do not know... I assume it was same tattooed chest gag used on the original pirate parrot greeter at Walt Disney World in the que, just not executed well because of the vantage point). I am not a fan of the auction scene changes because it further disrupts what is left of the original storyline: if you listen to the bonus tracks on the Reddot Pirates of the Caribbean CD that was once sold in the park, the original story was that once you view the cursed treasure you are sent back in time to the pirate days. The painting above the bar is meant to depict the same redhead in the auction scene, when she officially becomes a pirate. The auction scene is how she got her start into piracy: you will note she is the only female that seems to embrace the idea of being auctioned off, and has no fear of it. Atencio touched on this idea very slightly when I interviewed him for my defunct fanzine (unfortunately that tape is somewhere in my dragone horde of stuff and I never published anything on pirates as he was being interviewed about other attractions). The implication I got from Atencio was that all of the skeletons in the grotto are representative of of the "live" pirates you see later showing distinct personalities for each one... so the skeletons are how they ended up finally at the end of their pirating days, and when you are sent back in time you see how they used to be. If I recall correctly at one time there was a hidden Mickey on the underside of the barrels hanging from the roof before you go back up the waterfall lift at the end (you had to look straight up while under it to see it.... whether it is still there or not I am not sure I've not been to the park since the 50th Anniversary).
The Pirates of the Caribbean in Disney has been changing for as long as I have been riding it, and I've been riding it since the 80's. As far as the auction scene being force to change cause too many people complain it's sexist, the scene been around as long as the ride has and that was 50 years ago.
A classic Justin Scarred video... Love these "WEIRRRRRRD" lists. About the new scene; it may or may not have been done because of PC-ness, but it's done really well. I don't mind the change at all in retrospect and even dare to say I like it.
I think it's ridiculous that they're changing the auction scene. It's been a staple from opening day of Pirates when people weren't so easily butthurt over every little thing.
My family got stuck on the upward hill near the end of the ride for what seemed like hours. It was actually only 45 minutes but it was so uncomfortable and a little scary sitting there at that steep angle. This was interesting, thanks!
It's funny you mention the spikey bird. I just watched a Pirates documentary where they addressed that specific bird. A designer said that a guy was telling her about a real bird in the real New Orleans that was so old it had plucked its feathers out. At this time Walt was starting to deteriorate so she made her own version of that bird to cheer him up and eventually place in the ride. She said she stuck toothpicks and wire in it to create the look! Very interesting!
Great Video! As for the musician question - check out David Cordingly's books on the subject. Pirates were known for keeping musicians around simply to entertain them.
I know it's wrong, but I truly envy you, Justin. You are able to do all of these things and make a difference in the world, and I was sheltered and taught to fear the world and you're much braver than I will ever be. You're so lucky.
Hey Justin, with regards to the pirate playing the flute. First of all, it's a fife. Second, many pirates played instruments. Seamen played instruments because they spent a LOT of time away from shore, and about the only things they could do to amuse themselves were gamble and make music. So there was always someone on board the ship - that's any ship not just pirate ships - who could play. The standard instruments were fiddles, flutes/fifes, recorders, ocarinas, and concertinas. So the guy dressed like Smee was not likely to have been designated as the ship's musical director. He's just one of the guys. Love your videos, dude. Also, I saw another video of yours recently where you referred to Ally as your fiance. Congratulations to you both!
Your favorite hidden mickey is in pirates, but mine is in radiator springs racers. If you go through ramone’s side, in the room when he paints you, turn around, and on the back right side, there is a hidden mickey. It is right if you are facing the front
Feels like the old school randomland video!!! Great video man! Hey I heard that they are taking X Actencio’s suggestion and changing the name to Boy Scouts of the Caribbean ;)
As a pirate reenactor, I would like to point out musicians on pirate ships would be very common. Music and singing of shanties would be used for timing and keeping everyone in sync while working aboard ship. So having someone playing the flute, really would not be that odd.
On the flute player, I am sure that you know the life on a sailing ship was very hard. To relieve the boredom, captains allowed musical instruments to be brought on board by any member of the crew. A musician could play (while others worked) to aid the seamen at their work (thus sea chants and other tunes). Musicians would often play during battles to help with signals to the crew. Drums, fiddles and flutes were all common instruments. There is even a tale of a pirate raid in Scotland where two women were left behind in favor of a piper. So I never found the pirate flute player in PotC all that odd. And yes, he and his hooked comrade do look awfully familiar.
Nice to see a new adventure in my subscription box! Last night I was really bored so I decided to watch Dead Men Tell No Tales. I was still bored afterwords. xD
Years ago (around 2000) I took a "Walk in Walt's footsteps tour at Disneyland. The tour director told us that the imaginears had life masks made of themselves to use as the faces in The Pirates of the Caribbean ride. She said this included Walt Disney and that one of the pirates is actually a mold of Walt's face. She wouldn't tell us which one it is, only that the scene had a donkey in it.
Im not disputing the pirate and flute player look like Capt Hook and Smee. However, I believe the flute is actually a Fife which was a popular military instrument in the 18th and 19th centuries. They were often used by both land and naval forces to transmit orders over the loud sounds of battle.
You know, those awful lines are the sole reason I'm glad I have fibromyalgia. I always get a wheelchair at Disney so I can stay at the park longer before I start having a flare/getting too fatigued to continue, and with a chair, you get to snag a return time and come back later through the back of the ride! Fibromyalgia sucks, but having the shorter wait time makes it suck a little bit less! :P
Also! Sorry for the multiple comments, but I know the story behind that parrot!! First off, those aren't spikes, those are pin feathers! Pin feathers are what happen when a bird's growing new feathers. When they sprout, they're covered in a keratin sheath that helps them poke through the skin! And birds pluck their chest feathers out when they're stressed, so that's what this is supposed to resemble! And secondly, I know why he's there! I like to watch David Oneal's documentaries, and in the Pirates one, they explained it! This was when Walt was getting sicker and sicker, and people could tell he just wasn't feeling well, so they wanted to surprise him with something funny at the next meeting. One of the Imagineers had recently been in Louisiana (I believe) and had seen this ancient parrot who was like 90 yrs old, and it had its chest feathers stress-plucked, and they thought it was the goofiest thing they'd ever saw! So they made an audio-animatronic bird in its likeness for Pirates, using toothpicks as the pin feathers and such, to try and lift Walt's spirits! Sadly, he never got to see it, but they put it in the ride anyway as kind of a tribute!
“Doughnut” - 1. Oh yeah, it does look like it could be a canteen or a gun powder flask with a hole in it. 2. I think it looks more like a bagel than a donut.
Of course selling women is bad... So is belligerent drunkenness, hanging, torture, blowing guys up, stabbing people, stealing and plundering. It's so stupid of them to remove something so integral to peoples' memories when the reasoning isn't even consistent.
Also the "spikes" on the birds chest are just the center bits of feather, the "quill". This little guy is meant to look like he has Psittacine beak and feather disease, which causes feather loss. Look up other pictures of it and you'll see that they got the look down really well!
I love how i can watch you videos and personally feel like I went with you, and that you are good friends with me. Your kindness and wisdom shall never be ceased.....I live in Florida, hope I run into at WDW, I ran into timtracker once.......love ya.......Anne

Phantom Manor is closing now after this weekend until end of september, It seems they also will change some things in the ride

Thanks for continuing the "WEIRD" vlog into the new year! Hope to see you there in Feb. when I'm there!
Yay! Old school style randomland!!!! I love them all, but happy to see you taking it back 🙂
I loved 'Pirates' since I was a little kid. My dad got me a model kit of the skeleton pirate steering the ships wheel. I remember putting it together and painting it. It seems like a had another model of Pirates too. Since then it had a special meaning to me:) I still love that ride!
Love these kinds of videos. Try including your buddies in these type of videos. Great job man!
Imagine dying and your skeleton becomes part of a Disney ride...
absolutely loved this video justin! Keep em coming ! would love to see more strange things in other favourite disney rides!
Yay! Your randomland type of videos are back!
Hi Justin! I've been a big fan of your videos and I absolutely love this one :) I like all the Disney legends and this made my day so much better, all your videos do to be honest! :) So glad you're feeling better and that you and Ally are doing wonderful, keep being you and making amazing videos!!
You're off to a great start this year Justin! I love your videos!
I’ve missed these types of videos! I hope you feel better Justin:)
Had a feeling that if anyone was gonna show me some Disneyland trivia that I didn't know for once it was gonna be you. *hats off*
Also that’s so cool about what Walt said about the tiki room. I didn’t know that he didn’t want to hurt any birds to make the attraction. Go Walt!
I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!!!! PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN IS MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for posting this!!
Awesome video Justin, reminds me of your classic Weird things videos! Nice way of integrating some awesome info into a vlog!
Thanks for a great "weird things" video! These are always a favorite!
It was great to see you on Main Street that day! It was these videos which started me following you! This is great! Thank you for being such a great creator and nice person when your fans see you. Thank You.
Justin hasn't posted a video like this in a while! Made my day :)
Love your videos! Thanks for always sharing the Disney love.

You didn't talk about the angry kitties, but you showed them at 17:22 so close enough! They are my favorite!
I love that hidden kitty with the fish in his mouth!! I look for him every single time.
COOL!!! Congrats and Happy New Year!!!
Pirates is my all-time favorite ... thanks for sharing all these great details!
Going with my best friend on Tuesday! I can’t wait to do an Easter egg hunt while we ride! Love these videos, happy new year!❤️
I've been loving your vlogs and Route 66, but I guess I just forgot how much I missed your Weeeeeiiirrrd Disneyland Series.
Hey, whats up Justin. Super stoked on this one
JS- can you do a series like this? Mythbusting at disneyland or weird things in every ride!?!?
Happy new year!! and thats crazy there changing the red head scene!
Oh great... Bambi rock cannot be unseen now. Stressed parrots will self-pluck. Pinfeathers are new growth. Thanks for the storyline info!
Hello Justin. Welcome back to Disneyland.

As far as the auction scene being force to change cause too many people complain it's sexist, the scene been around as long as the ride has and that was 50 years ago.
I've been sick as well. Got a touch of the flu the week after Christmas and been fighting the remaining sickness. Feel better soon Justin!
A classic Justin Scarred video... Love these "WEIRRRRRRD" lists.
About the new scene; it may or may not have been done because of PC-ness, but it's done really well. I don't mind the change at all in retrospect and even dare to say I like it.

Thanks Justin that was GREAT ! ! !

Oh my gosh yes!! I always point to it and say “yay my donut is still there!” But I didn’t know other people noticed it hahaha
I realized this was posted right around the time I was in Disney with my boyfriend, and then I saw us at 0:26-0:30 walking down Main Street!!
My family got stuck on the upward hill near the end of the ride for what seemed like hours. It was actually only 45 minutes but it was so uncomfortable and a little scary sitting there at that steep angle. This was interesting, thanks!

You're so lucky.
I miss these types of videos I've been watching you for th e longest time
I like the Disneyland videos that you do
Great videos Justin, keep it up.
Justin, the "donut" is a black powder flask. It's attached to a gun rack. Great video. :)

We were at DCA yesterday. You should come back to Disneyland. My Family and I want to meet you!!
I hope you get to feeling better soon!
I saw you yesterday while you were filming this!! i didn't get a chance to stop and say hello though...
I have a co-worker who was at Disneyland at the same time as you. It's quite possible that you saw her there sometime in the past week.
As a pirate reenactor, I would like to point out musicians on pirate ships would be very common. Music and singing of shanties would be used for timing and keeping everyone in sync while working aboard ship. So having someone playing the flute, really would not be that odd.
Well I love you, and the hook rock is 1.5 Allies tall. Happy new years,
"Yo ho, Yo Ho a Pirate's Life For Me !" or should I say a pig's life ? ha ha. Awesome video bro ham !
I'll follow you on every journey on youtube

Almost at 100k subscribers man!

Love your videos for some reason there just awesome
Great Video!
WE WANT THE REDHEAD! Also, that's one weird donut!
My brother works at Disneyland and he told me that the skull is real

You know...I've actually felt like the human skull story is legit, but now you've made me question it, and I have been pretty convinced on that one.
Awesome video!! Well done and well researched. How many times around the ride did it take to do all this filming?!?
Im not disputing the pirate and flute player look like Capt Hook and Smee. However, I believe the flute is actually a Fife which was a popular military instrument in the 18th and 19th centuries. They were often used by both land and naval forces to transmit orders over the loud sounds of battle.
Awesome video👍🏼
Love u Justin!!!!❤️
Ive never seen the cat with the fish in its mouth. Cool !! TFS......Rhino
you're telling me that you were just casually at disneyland with drake bell?? thats so cool!!!! LOL
Also, did you notice the Barbossa painting in the queue has 4 fingers instead of 5?
Loved this video Justin ! Do the same for other Disneyland rides pleeeeeeeaseeee :)
Being a weird person myself I sure did miss the weird things videos
Have fun
Yay! Weeeeird Videos!

TURKEY LEG! GET YOUR TURKEY LEGS HERE!
forgot to say thiis but loved the video. can you do some more weird things videos. did you ever do one at knott's berry farm?

My bet is new feather growth (pinfeathers) after nervous self-plucking.
