Hi, It will depend on the interface in real-life. For ideally clean, atomistically bonded surfaces this should be fine. But if you have a cohesive zone where bonding is not a sharp interface rather a zone then you will have a stiffer response and for that you can use other formulations including cohesive zone models. I have a video on this in my channel. Similarly, if you have adhesives used then there properties need to included. So as a modeller, you will have to decide which type of constraint and contact conditions will be useful. Thanks
@@Professor3MEC Thanks for your feedback. A cohesive zone requires parameters such as Ki values (interface stiffness for each failure mode) and toughness values, as well as a refined mesh. What do you think about merging parts? Also, how do you deal with a model that contains a large number of parts, let's assume 100 separated parts in your Abaqus model. Is there a more appropriate pre-processing tool? Thanks for any thought you may provide.
Yes you may do it and you can select if intersecting boundaries should be kept or removed. But this is just to create one part out of two or more parts
Yes it may work but one needs to be careful with clearances/tolerances, I.e. distance between adjacent nodes to be considered for tie constraints. Also, if you allow the nodes to move during tie constraints and distances are on higher side your mesh in those regions may become unreasonable. Better look at ABAQUS documentation for more details.
Hi, you can same methodology as shown here for by joining both and then apply cyclic loading as shown in the below video. ruclips.net/video/mBAlX7zmVSM/видео.html ruclips.net/video/rekUgcDb8Ig/видео.html ruclips.net/video/9t5d7WpMedU/видео.html If there is damage involved then there are videos on modelling that too, such as ruclips.net/video/vc6nQ_umsZs/видео.html ruclips.net/video/c189IuVfVZ8/видео.html
I never tried it but there a few output variables as I remember, such as CFN, CFT, CFORCE, etc. But it might be better to look at ABAQUS documentation for output variables. Thanks
hello, i am trying to model a peeling test of the shim this shim is composed from a rubber +steel+rubber the cohesive element are like adhesive but i can't reach the full damage ef elements it stop before the sdeg=1 and that means i can't haev element deletion ? because i tried everything and i cant remove my elements

@@rezauldewannayan4224 if i understood correctly, if you know the thickness of the interface then you may create three objects rather than two with specific thicknesses and then bond them together as shown in this video. You will have two interfaces in that case to bond.
How to solve this error "The volume of 48 elements is zero, small, or negative. Check coordinates or node numbering, or modify the mesh seed. In the case of a tetrahedron this error may indicate that all nodes are located very nearly in a plane. The elements have been identified in element set ErrElemVolSmallNegZero."
You may look into mesh by opening the odb in visualisation module. And then via display group see which elements are in Err… element set. Then may be use edge seeds to modify mesh in that area of part. Usually intricate geometries with complex change in cross-sections, etc can cause this issue with tetrahedron elements.

thank u, it's very helpful!!
Hi thanks for sharing the tutorial. I'm wondering if the "tie constraints" will over estimate the structural stiffness? Thanks

Sorry I am unaware of any. IF you have already found one then please let me know too. Thanks.
Hi, thank you very much with this video. Just one question can we use merge option under assembly, merge geometries?
Yes you may do it and you can select if intersecting boundaries should be kept or removed. But this is just to create one part out of two or more parts
Can we have meshing that is not coincident in the two parts and then create a tie constraint between them?

Did you select element deletion as yes in element type?
If the problem still persist i can have a quick check.

Do you mean mass by increasing interface thickness? Can you please share more details?
