The badge is Hirsh, the original authorised tuning company for Saab, based in Switzerland. They were a dealer group who persuaded some Swedish engineers to jump ship from the factory and set up a remapping tuning company offering software updates for Saabs. The factory decided to authorise them and the software was sold worldwide, via the authorised dealer network. The software upgrade was sold for £750 inc VAT, took the dealer 30mins to install, and the software was downloaded from the server in Switzerland onto the car via a simple tool plugged into the diagnostic plug of the car, where the Tech 2 diagnostic tool was plugged in. Depending on the engine and on the model of the Saab, you could add up to an extra 75 bhp and this would normally come in around 2000 rpm, great for overtaking. The best model to upgrade was the 2.3T engine, transformed car and a great purchase Geof, enjoy 😊
This is why I’ve just put a brand new engine in my mk7 transit so I don’t have to buy the modern pieces of shit. I’d rather keep what I’ve got and fix that after 170,000 miles.
I love my tranny, I want it to keep rolling forever. How much was the new engine? ball park, and what went wrong with the old one? mine has 170k kms at the moment, 14 years old it was a 45th anniversary edition. Really comfortable to drive. 👍
@ got the engine from GSF new clutch and d/ mass flywheel new water pump, few new pulleys and belt, new glow plugs and a few other things £5600 including labor, not really sure what happened to the engine? It decided to put the oil on the outside .I already through the year, put new injectors, turbo, and a few other things through the year so it already done quite a bit of money the problem is buying another van you’re buying someone else’s problems so i Keep the one I’ve got.😁
Saab approved and only originally available through selected dealers (Reading and a couple of others) , it was later rebranded as saab performance and spread across the whole dealer network. It was available on some new cars (the troll was a beast), but everything from a simple st1 remap to full modification inc suspension, remap exhaust, wheels, brakes etc was available aftermarket... Think of them more like alpine (BMW) or polestar (not the eV) rather than a production line vehicle
@@GeoffBuysCars It has DO88 aftermarket larger intake piping, factory Hirsch ECU remap, probably another remap after the mods, aftermarket performance exhaust just by the first look, of course it is more powerful ;)

I owned a Saab. have a look for a company called GenuineSaab they move lovely aftermarket stuff. downpipes, shifters, remaps, poly bushing all the fun stuff . glad you kept this going, from my experience Saabs need the maintenance done exactly on time or early even or you will regret also you probably need a radio code to get the radio to work its in your owners manual folder, mine was on a blue card in the folder.

I was working at a Saab dealer when the 95 Aero was launched. It’s the only time I have seen brake discs glowing on a road car. Courtesy of the dealership owner’s son.
Love a swift Sweede!!! Happened across a Hirsch 93 years ago used to leave porsches 95 -100 in 3rd from 40mph and on to 100 and lots on Mexican roads of course!!!
@@GeoffBuysCars Lucy On Cars That would make a great video. Your Saab vs Lucy's 911 at Santa Pod. Or on a racing track. Or an Autobahn. Or transporting 4 or 5 people plus their luggage to the airport... And even if your Saab lost, there's the purchase price, fuel costs, servicing and repair costs, practicality, seat comfort etc.
Nice! That's pretty much the same spec as my car, although mine's a wagon. I have the heated rear seats too. The intercooler in that is probably a DO88 one. The charge pipe is a DO88. You can just make out the lettering on it where the sticker was. Those intercoolers keep the charge air really cool and don't suffer from heat soak so you can give it the berries all day long!
There not bad the old SAABs - I've a stock (aside from a Quaife LSD fitted) rust free 1997 9000 AERO 5-speed manual, bought last August. Been trying to find a half decent one, not many left here in Oz in good shape. The one I got has had only two owners, the last for 22 years - very well looked after, honestly looks new still.
I've got a late 9-5 "turbo edition" (which has an Aero engine and gearbox) - also with a manual gearbox. That makes similar if not marginally more, for the power rising on the runs that may well be the aftermarket intercooler.I found that on a previous 9-5, with a standard intercooler it got heat soak and if you floored it on an open road after having driven around town the power would ocme in, then back off before feeding back in again. Whereas with the aftermarket (aluminium) intercooler, the power just came in and stayed there. The "noobtune" maps enable OpenSID which allows you to view some values in real time, with the original intercooler TAir (intake air temperature) would rise on boost, with the aftermarket one they dropped. So this is possibly why the figures improved initially, the intercooler doing its' job. As mentioned by others, this is most likely a stage 3 (295BHP/450Nm), not the quickest off the mark due to being FWD but fun in 3rd gear and above .. it gets expensive to go much further, so I think it's the sweet spot for gains vs. cost.
I own two Saabs a 93 convertible and a 95 both are great cars to drive for long distances. They go well over 200 kmh and the seats are still the most comfortable after 20+ years.
I had an 07 plate Saab Aero manual, 260 bhp with no mods. It was an absolute beast, apparently they have faster acceleration between 30 and 70 mph than a Ferrari.
the curve shape is pretty nice no low end but that's typical from old school turbo cars direct injection was a game changer on that aspect you get pretty much double the torque and hp between 1000-3000rpm old SAABs I believe are known to have a lot of potential I saw a ton of northern europe videos of them with crazy power over the years
I have owned 3 Saab 9-5 aeros consecutively over the last 16 years, a 2002 mk 1, a 2004 Shark tooth model and now a 2008 Dame Edna. All three have been a joy to own and the forums are so helpful that most times something goes wrong (and that is not often!) you can find inexpensive ways to fix them, spares are plentiful and reasonably priced
Loved the Saab 900 I had in my 20s. Bought for £300. And my Dad had an old Saab 90. Was great in the snow. All his colleagues had more modern expensive cars that couldn’t get up a hill in snow. No problem for a Saab 90. Wonder if it’s still going. Was OJO 777M
My Gran had an old Saab 900 for nearly 20 years till she passed away but it was built like a tank and it was sad day when Saab ended it's car division.
driven so many saabs. from the classic 900 turbo to the 9-5 aero hot. the 9-3 convertable was the worst. the cavalier one. was like driving a jelly. prob why so many had to have bulkhead repairs.
I was given a tired saab 9-5 2 litre turbo automatic and it was lovely, It did 50mph in first gear and 70 in second! very smooth overall and great in the twistys too. Trouble was it was blighted by glitchy electrics, the clock spring failed the day before the MOT so I Sold it to a bloke who wanted the engine for his astra.
I had a Saab 9000 2.3l full turbo back in the late 1990's Fastest car i have ever driven!! Only trouble was the clutch couldn't take the power. Went through 3 in 2 years! Had to let it go. But still a great car😊
Erm.... Gm defaced saab long before 03.... The gm900 (later rebadged 93) was an appalling vehicle compared to its predecessor and the 9000 range.... Obviously the HOT aero was ok, but generally the start of the demise of the marque.. Even the 9-5 was very heavily gm influenced, and was a basic vectra chassis, that said, saab engineers took it away and completely upgraded much of it at great cost to gm....

Looks to be the traditional 9-5 stage 3 mods - 3in downpipe, intercooler, FPR, map. 295bhp is the usual target 👍 I’d recommended staying away from the autobahn and stick to squirts here and there 😂👍 make it last.
Even the double holder that popped out of the rear armrest was a work of art..... Lots of little things on the 9-5 (saab in general) that have disappeared over the years..... How good is night panel on country roads, genius invention..... Twin sun visors so you could block the low sun from the side as well as front, at the same time.... Triple, double jet screen washers
I have a 2003 9-5 aero manual (with Hirsch badge)- I think the cost of road tax puts people off! Not cheap. Also the presumed lack of availability of spare parts but I’ve never found it a problem. Also have a couple of local specialists which is handy.
Somebody did a good job with tuning it, and you did with buying it 😂 with that power must be interesting to drive that "old" Saab, its still FWD😊 Bdw no whossss? no problem in my 1.8T from Audi, it also has closed air system, I've swapped original valve with the 2way valve, set it up, I think 80/20 % and its woooshing now 😂 some say its not working but I say did you install it right lol with no changes to how it drives but massive changes to how it sounds ... I am surprised how honest the seller was, these days it's rare ... all the best
That's cool. I have a friend with a saab 9-5 aero estate. It is standard but it still feels quick. 300hp sounds fantastic. I have a Jaguar XFS with 275hp and oodles of torque. I am thinking of remapping it to 330 hp.
If you’ve never done it, DO IT! It’s a hoot. If you’ve done it before, personally, I’d pass. If you want a quicker car…buy a quicker car. I had an Audi S3, remapped from 300 to 363 bhp and torque was up 23%. Just bonkers, as it was swift as standard. The searing acceleration down a slip road joining my favourite speeding bit of road pulled an insane giggle out of me. Overtakes felt closer to my larger capacity motorcycle. Downsides. It wasn’t good on petrol before and it was quite a bit worse. There’s nowt for owt. Main problem was it started to slip it’s clutch at max power, prompting me to back off, rather defeating the object. I fixed it with a Sachs racing clutch and it never slipped again, though it gained a heavier pedal. On balance, I wouldn’t do it again. I bought a quicker car and honestly it’s more than I’m capable of using. Enjoy! Cars are brilliant on their day and we will never again have it even as good as now, unless you buy a slightly older car with low mileage / FSH and cherish it. They’re killing the industry by a thousand cuts.
I get the same in 3rd and 4th on my remapped mint E46 330CD BMW, about the same power as this Saab, but torque comes out at 425lbft.. puts a smile on my face every time I flex my right foot in a high gear.
I miss mine. Got it to around 315 at the fly. Yours looks to have an uprated cobra inlet, so flows more. DO88 hard pipes, and silicone. There’s a few grand in parts there. 4th gear was so funny. Good from 40mph to near 140 🤣 Sadly, the gearbox’s are made out of chocolate.
@GeoffBuysCars What do you reckon to the manual gearbox VS the auto 9-5 Aero boxes you’ve had before? I’m in the market for one of these and am due to go and view a very clean looking auto in a few days. Are the auto boxes good enough for a car of this age or is manual the way forward? Thanks and beautiful car!

Saab Life 😊
What a brilliant beautiful car
Tesco Momentum 99 petrol is the best! My chavtastic Fiesta ST180 loves the stuff 😅😆.
My £3000 2007 2.5 lt diesel van did 35mpg….my £42000 brand new latest tech 2.2lt diesel van does…..21mpg
@GeoffBuysCars - great video that was! Are you doing another Dyno Day? I’d like to Dyno my small & angry Toyota Yaris 1.8SR.
Yes, when it’s warmer!
@ - great!
@@GeoffBuysCars - it’s done 102,000 miles so may be a bit ‘tired’.
Back in Gloucester again!
I love seeing Chris!
Nice Saab Geoff good power 😊 ours are Noob tuned and rapid!
Got a bargain there!
Hi Just watched antiques roadtrip tonight and they are diving between antique shops in quess what only a old Volvo estate take a look.
I used to have a 99 ems on a T plate, the first one i believe. It was proper fast.
Id have bought it before i saw the Dyno runs
Most of the saloon saabs I have had did have rear heated seats tbh
Love wheels 🛞 on this saab tbh
Geoff, do I take it you have a trader's policy? If so, how do you find the premiums, considering the insurance market has gone super nuts?!!
Always had Saabs, 9-5 Aero's last 10 years. Mid range power, 60-100mph+ ;-) especially at Stage 1-3 is phenomenal
That's cool. I have a friend with a saab 9-5 aero estate. It is standard but it still feels quick. 300hp sounds fantastic.
I have a Jaguar XFS with 275hp and oodles of torque. I am thinking of remapping it to 330 hp.
Oh no, you admitted to having a Jaguar. Have you anything to tell us? 😉
@MarkB-33 nothing to confess. I haven't robbed any banks or stolen the silverware. 😂 At least it is a proper Jaaag.
@@GT380man cool. There's a specialist that does it just down the road from me.
It's been welded in a couple of structural areas and a years tax is £415. Two possible reasons why it didn't sell.
3rd gear Geoff. It's the reason Saab owners always look smug. They are an absolute rocket ship in 3rd.
Let’s just say I filmed some clips on the way to the Dyno that I can’t post 😂😂😂
I get the same in 3rd and 4th on my remapped mint E46 330CD BMW, about the same power as this Saab, but torque comes out at 425lbft.. puts a smile on my face every time I flex my right foot in a high gear.
I miss mine. Got it to around 315 at the fly.
Yours looks to have an uprated cobra inlet, so flows more. DO88 hard pipes, and silicone.
There’s a few grand in parts there.
4th gear was so funny. Good from 40mph to near 140 🤣
Sadly, the gearbox’s are made out of chocolate.
Nice results, better then a stock 850T5R and better then a V70 T5
@GeoffBuysCars What do you reckon to the manual gearbox VS the auto 9-5 Aero boxes you’ve had before? I’m in the market for one of these and am due to go and view a very clean looking auto in a few days. Are the auto boxes good enough for a car of this age or is manual the way forward?
Thanks and beautiful car!
Tell you what, that’s a good looking car.
Love a Saab 9.3 turbo, looked into buying one but couldn’t find anything decent 🥺
geoff what mods have been done to this car? maybe you said in the video but i missed it
Press the up and down arrow in that LCD at the same time to see what tune it has!!
A question. How is the engine hp determined (rather than hp at the wheels) from the dyno test?
Good Aero is free BHP, cuts through the air pretty efficiently for its time.
That is not a car engine, its a Jet engine..
