      Pride was ruled by yakuzas killing each other, rigged fights, fighters pushed to take steroids, etc.

      I grew up on UFC in the 90's, but then discovered Pride and was blown away by how much fun it was. Pride was so much fun. Soccer kicks, the Japanese crowd, prime Fedor, 10 minute first rounds, the theme song. It was so good.

    This is the 1st MMA show I saw on free TV in New Delhi, India at 4 AM on Jan 01, 2004.
    Rampage is one of my favourite fighters of all time, and Pride was and to this day, is the best combat sports promotion of all time.

      @@johnkeros9109 That's due to Yakuza financial mismanagement more so than the fact that the UFC had a better product or stable. UFC roster before absorbing WEC, Strikeforce, and Pride was the weakest in the sport.

    The production of the show was out of this world.the theme song,arena,the vibe,audience,everything just perfect.Pride treat their fighter like modern gladiator.creative team behind this show really know to combine something modern and traditional.
    What a time,what a show.dont sad its end,be glad it happen.

    Actually shocked to go back and look at Quinton techniques. He was really sharp and smart defensively. Really impressive, I forgot over time that’s why he was one of my favs and also why even Jon jones had a healthy amount of respect/fear for him when they fought

      Yes. His boxing looked very technical here and his defensive guard on the inside is beautiful. He took advantage of Chucks guard with that stiff jab to create openings and get on the inside. He also knows how how much weight to put on that front leg depending on what he wants to fire off, something that often times gets lost in MMA . A-1 👌

      No cage to help anyone. This kind of ring would completely eliminate the wall and stall tactic of a lot of grapplers. Too bad the UFC would never use it.

      The image quality is poor overall. Stuttering frames and aliasing galore. Some people will assume it's because it's old, but no. The old DVD looks quite a bit better than this.

      @@leiwanddeluxe They're not trying to hide all Pride logos. But they obviously want this to function as an advertisement for UFC Fight Pass. There would normally be a Pride logo in the bottom right corner of the screen. They zoomed in and cropped it out, and put a UFC Fight Pass Logo there instead.
      And go take another look at the thumbnail for this video. There's no Pride logo anywhere on it. But they slapped a UFC Fight Pass logo awkwardly between Rampage and Yoshida.

    Nothing compares to the live events where all the fighter's entrances were shown. These DVD versions are terrible in comparison.

      @@stuartfleming This isn't HD. It's SD outputted as 1080p. It's not actually 1080p. This is ripped directly from the DVD version so it is DVD resolution (480P). The fact that you don't know this is wild.
      Watch any modern UFC fight uploaded in 1080p and you'll see the difference. And the live broadcasts were a million times better. The entrances were a big part of Pride.

    This is still my favorite event ever.
    Having the semifinals and the finals on the same night is already the greatest thing possible, but they also had STACKED card. The Final Conflict and Shockwaves are some of the most potently stacked cards ever.

    The spectacle of a PRIDE event, from the opening to the closing of the event is something that the UFC will never be able to match. PRIDE was for the people, the UFC are for their own bank balance and the fans can just suck it!!!

    I think it’s too bad that Dana White was in on the commentary for the Chuck Liddell versus Rampage Jackson. It seemed to me that Bas Rutten’s commentary was skewed to make Dana White feel better about Chuck Liddell not following his game plan.

    The Golden Age of MMA. Saku vs Monster. It seems like nothing is happening. But this tension and search for the opponent’s mistakes can be felt through the screen. And it’s amazing how the public reacts to it. Thousands of people in the arena do not buzz, but understand the beauty and tension of a wrestling match. The modern public only needs highlights. Sad. Sometimes it's worth rewatching Pride to see the difference.

    I will always stand by this because I remember putting this back on the Underground forum after the event was over but this event here is still the greatest MMA event I've ever watched in my life!!! The entrances, the fights, Big Nog's comeback, Rampage beating Chuck, the Final of the GP, nothing tops this but maybe UFC 189!!!
