I'm an F82 Competition owner and agree with all the points you raised. The interior is lifted to a whole different level with the full extended leather, I came from a 430i before I bought the M4 and when I test drove F82's without the extended leather and without the carbon it didn't feel very special inside at all. My biggest bug bear is, as you highlighted, the harsh ride. I have the 20" 666m wheels and on british roads they are a nightmare even on this adaptive suspension set up when on the back roads. I spend a lot of time trying to locate and eliminate the latest squeak or rattle in the cabin because the car is slowly shaking itself to pieces. I don't mind the gearbox, it's just a case of learning how it works, plenty of videos on RUclips. I think the car is absolutely stunning to look at, subjective I know but the F series are in perfect proportion from whatever angle you look. Like you I'm finding it increasingly difficult to get excited about new cars and every time I jump in mine it puts a grin on my face providing the road surface is decent. Your interior is beautiful, the generic black interiors are so uninspiring. I have San Marino blue with Silverstone interior which takes a bit of looking after but it's worth it. I like the direction you're going with your channel, older cars are more interesting and also more attainable for a lot of people.
I like where the channel is headed! You seem like you have a good head in your shoulder. We need More cars like this on the channel please! Cara from 2008-2018 was the best era.
I had a F83 M4 Convertible for 4 years and from my POV the DCT gearbox was one of the best features of the car. I couldn't give a flying f*ck in a high wind about no park mode or whatever, the shifts in the DCT are absolutely lightning fast, which is the thing you do with a gearbox the most. I've got a G87 M2 now and the gearbox is noticeably worse, there's a 0.3-0.4 second delay on the shifts which can disconnect you from the car a little. I loved my M4 it was the best car I've ever owned, but I personally wouldn't have another one as the design language is based on MY2011 which means it has 13 year old styling at this point, which I guess is fine if you're buying one for around 25k. But each to their own, it's still a great car and always will be.
Great spec!! The F8x platform is great value for what you get in return. You should start by investing in a set of star marked Michelin PS 4S, maybe also a CS flash to the steering, Diff and DCT, makes a considerable difference to how the car behaves, makes it less scary during winter, and a bit more balanced, especially that this is a non-comp car. The DCT gearbox is a great piece of kit Imo, you just need to learn what it likes. I find the combination of the lowest setting in shift ferocity + efficient throttle the best setup for daily driving, but when you put it in full attack mode, there's nothing like it!!
Welcome back! The F80/82 is a great generation of M cars. Personally I’d go for a manual example (how many manual sedans are even available these days?). Insightful overview from an ownership experience, and I appreciate the perspective. Why not consider a suction cup mounted roof box?
Not sure about the suction cup roof box. I've not heard much feedback from F80 owners. But if I ever need one, I'd probably go for the roof racks that clip on the inside of the door
Great video - I think the reasons the F series are so desirable versus the G, aside from the obvious looks, are it’s DSG gearbox and it’s raw feeling overall. Perhaps imperfections, but the essence of an occasion.
I’m surprised you don’t like the G… looks very aggressive and I’m sure it drives fantastically… not to mention the carbon buckets and all the new tech… if I had the wonga I’d get the G over the F in a heart beat!
Totally with you with F versus G. I was holding out for the G M2 but but when it came out I think I disliked it more than the G 240i......so 8 months ago I found myself an F87 Comp with 7k miles and I'm very pleased. Love your M3 ❤
G87 is great car imo , faster on a straight and track, more capable than f87 , suspension is way more sofisticated, maybe lil less engaging than f87 but way better daily and great value , nth come close performance wise in that price range among new cars. If you have only one car G8x will be better choice than F8x for 90% ppl imo. But at the same time I also prefere looks of an F generation and miss it's raw nature.
@@karolmaciejewski340The point a lot of people misunderstand is that BMW Ms are not designed to be a comfortable daily until the F Series. If you wanted something of this nature the 40i Models did a phenomenal job. Bringing in daily abilities always goes on paar with reducing the driver engagement. For a car just to have fun in that’s a step in the wrong direction in my opinion.
@@joshuawi99 that's just what customeres want, few petrolheads can't change that , G8x platform are best selling M cars ever and at the end goal for BMW is to make money
I'd love to buy a m3f80 but i'm not a car mechanic and can't judge in what shape they are.. models with 50-90k km are like 60-80k and over 100k km they are still above 50k.. is it just a gamble or is there a way to make sure the car will run for many years?
Not sure what you’re complaining about the F80 None of these things matter to a proper M car customer As you said that’s the last good generation, after that Slug boxes ugliness and heavyweights
Well I have an M4CS & a M4 comp cab F82/83…. Love them both. Great cars, personality I prefer these models to the G-platform. Never had any issues with either, saying that neither car has done more than 6k miles wise.
It’s a dual clutch.. it’ll disengage when at a stop.. it behaves just like a manual! You won’t hold the clutch pedal down continuously if waiting for longer periods you’ll burn it out.. DCT just does it seamlessly in the background
I 100% agree with you. All the new cars are not interesting anymore, and nobody cares about electric cars. I think it would be cool if you could do reviews on some classic cars or even future classics. For instance your lexus lc500 video was great to watch and very underrated. Basically we want to see enthusiast cars. Also, I 100% agree with your opinions on the F vs G series ;)) Ps congrats on the M3, beautiful interior choice! //F87 Comp owner
M140i or M340i has a less harsh drive tham M cars and for town, motorway, " sweeper" B roads driving, its more than adequate for most drivers seeking spirited driving. The truth is, unless you are tracking an M car, you will rarely tap into more than a fraction of their capability- this underused aspect of M cars can be a frustrating characteristic
I dissagree with your second point. You won't necessarily need to go to a track to exploit this car. If you live in the UK and go further out of the big cities, you can find quite a lot of roads that are perfect for these cars. On a track I think you'll find that this is not really a track car. The brakes are the first thing that will tell you that :D

Great video - I think the reasons the F series are so desirable versus the G, aside from the obvious looks, are it’s DSG gearbox and it’s raw feeling overall. Perhaps imperfections, but the essence of an occasion.
yeah, that DSG transmission... I can't believe they ditched it for the M cars and just replaced it with a regular automatic. Baffling decision
Weight!! The G got too heavy with all the modern tech so a DCT would have made it a 2000kg car.. maybe even more
I'd bet it's cost savings. Having the same transmissions for all their cars is a massive cost saver.
I’m surprised you don’t like the G… looks very aggressive and I’m sure it drives fantastically… not to mention the carbon buckets and all the new tech… if I had the wonga I’d get the G over the F in a heart beat!

Kudos, love that interior.
It does infact have crawl mode, you have to blip the accelerator once whilst in drive, it'll crawl from there...
Like I've said, it doesn't crawl unless you blip the accelerator. Unlike any other automatic transmission.
